Craigie beats the odds

Cathie Craigie has held Cumbernauld against all the odds.

It was the top SNP target - at least among Labour seats.

So big swings across Scotland to the SNP - but this a disappointment for the SNP.

A big loss, but your microphone isn't working!

Can we get all the returning officers to give us that break down for spoiled papers like the one from Dumfries?!

Someone send a message...

Is this something to do with both parliament votes being on the same paper - I certainly discussed with colleagues whether you could just vote in the regional vote and not in the constituency vote and whether the paper would then still be valid. I assumed in this case that the regional vote would still be counted...

Can anyone enlighten us?

940 odds was for "unclear" ballots, still a bit crypric, but importantly these votes were not lost because people were voting for more than 1 person.

Cathie's magnificent result was an endorsement of her personal style of low-key campaigning. She has huge local support because she is a good listener and a tireless servant of the people - her opponent Jamie Hepburn was seen correctly as an careerist from outside the area with no real local connections or interests. Congratulations Cathie!
