Annan aiming to delay Livi's title party

I wouldn't normally say this but I wasn't too disappointed that was cancelled because of a waterlogged pitch on Tuesday night.

A combination of recent poor performances and near gale-force winds meant that it wasn't a game I was particularly looking forward to.

A player usually looks to the next game and it can't come quickly enough to get a disappointment out the system, but I think the extra week's rest might just benefit us this time.

Chris Jardine is focusing on his football rather than his contract situationWe're on a bad run right now, with three defeats on the bounce; and a home game against Montrose might have seemed the perfect opportunity to get back on track.

The fact that they would have had four or five players missing would have had some suggesting it was a home banker.

In all honesty though, our confidence is pretty low right now and at home might just be the best fixture to lift the players' spirit and performance levels.

Don't mistake me for thinking we're more confident of getting a result against Livingston than Montrose, but I'm sure even Harry Cairney and Derek Townsley would tell you we have saved our best performances for the teams at the top end of the table!

I think I'm correct in saying that Livingston can win the league at Galabank on Saturday, so we'll be hoping to stop that from happening.

That being said, I'm sure they will be bringing a few supporters so it should be a good occasion and hopefully one that will lift the players and bring the best out of us.

Dumbarton clinched the title at our place last season and, although we had nothing but pride to play for, it wasn't nice watching the opposition celebrating.

The play-offs are looking like a massive long shot for us but we still have ambitions to finish higher than last year, so we'll be giving everything to stall the inevitable Livingston party.

There are only seven games to play and I'm not the only one playing for my future at the club, as my contract runs down to its last few weeks.

Normally this would have been tied up long before now, but I'll be honest and say that no discussions have taken place.

This season in particular I've felt lucky to be at the club as several times recently I though my time was up.

I've always dug in there and I'm still hanging on: as much as I'd like to hang around for another 12 months I'm surprisingly relaxed about the whole situation.

Put it this way, I think the manager has more important players that he will be looking to tie up before he calls me into his office.

I don't often get a Wednesday night off so it was a bit of a treat to have a relaxing night at home watching Arsenal against Barcelona in the Champions League.

I usually get a little bored if I'm watching matches on the television myself, but there was no way I was missing any of the this highly anticipated match.

It had been hyped up so much that usually that means a disappointment lies ahead but there wasn't a chance of that at the Emirates.

I honestly can't believe that Arsenal got away with the draw as in that first hour Barcelona were simply incredible.

I thought they were absolutely magnificent to watch and it was unbelievable to see how ordinary they made the home team.

Make no mistake and it's great to see players in every position so comfortable and keen to get on the ball and pass and move - even Victor Valdes was pinging passes out wide from inside his box!

What surprised me, and possibly Arsenal as well, was how hard the Barcelona players worked to win the ball back on the very few occasions they did give it away.

They played and pressed the game so high up the pitch that Arsenal just couldn't keep the ball for any length of time.

Barcelona are all about neat and tidy short passing and playing through teams but you could see from their two goals that they can mix it up with two balls over the top to and he produced two great finishes.

Arsenal managed to salvage a draw from a game that, had it been a boxing match, could have been stopped inside 10 minutes.

With Barca's first choice central defensive pairing both missing for the second leg in the Nou Camp, it could make for a very interesting second leg on Tuesday night.

What a shame we are away to Elgin that night...

They may be missing Puyol and Pique but then they'll just bring in Marquez and Milito who may not be quite as good as the first pairing but they are still good players. Barcelona will probably miss Fabregas, Arshavin and Gallas more than Barca will miss their absentees.
Must admit your blog is excellent. I wonder whether even players at a higher level get that feeling of "i can't be bothered playing tonight" especially those who are safe from relegation and now don't really have much to play for.

Pandawatch87 I bet they do. Think of all the players who develop mysterious injuries just before an 'International friendly' only to recover in time for a match a few days later. I expect a losing streak would have that all important confidence draining effect, for some players at least. I am sure we can all think of a team where certain players look like they wish they were anywhere else other than a football pitch.
    Chris, keep your spirits up.

If you don't get resigned will you drop down to South of Scotland or East of Scotland League ?

    Hi Chris,

You write a very interesting blog.

I support one of the top junior teams - Pollok which coincidentally is the local team for Harry Cairney.

We've played Annan a couple of times (at Harry's request) in pre-season friendlies the last time being in August 2007 but i'm unsure if we played your South or your East squad.

Hope you finish higher this season and you get re-signed. I know of a couple of English Premiership players that read your blog!!!.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Well kudos on a fine win at the weekend Chris.

Thanks for the comments everyone. My apologies I never replied until my next blog was done but I was off on holiday for a few days and left the laptop at home!

piorek - I'm honestly not sure if I will continue if I don't stay with Annan. There are a few things I'll need to consider and I suppose I'll need to wait and see if any clubs are interested first! As always my top priority is staying at Galabank - we'll just need to wait and see what happens.

axis72 - I thought you were going to say you knew a couple of Premiership sides that were interested in me there!!! I'm well aware of Pollock and I'm sure we've played each other twice during my time with Annan - losing both games if I remember correctly?
