Looking through the transfer window
Well, that's the transfer window slammed shut, so clubs need to make do with what they've got.
I've heard a lot of managers say they don't like the January window but for football fans it brings one of the most exciting days of the year. The last 24 hours of the transfer window for me is like the Final is to my partner, Laura.
I was lucky enough to have the day off on Monday so I was glued to the television all morning and afternoon.
Before anyone asks if I required permission, the answer is no, although it did help that my better half was sunning herself in Dubai at the time!
As always, there was a little controversy just to make the day even more interesting. Step forward .
Although it's never going to happen, I would be very interested to hear about the ins and outs of the Arshavin deal.
I find it hard to believe that the weather can be blamed for any delay considering he flew into the country on a private plane over the weekend. It was actually Tuesday evening that the deal was announced - a full 24 hours after the "deadline".
Annan Athletic were involved in a little moving and shaking themselves in the final hours; recruiting and .
Unfortunately, it was two in and two out, as we lost Scott Anson, who returned to Kilmarnock, as well as Bryan Gilfillan.
Although it's never positive when your club loses good players, I'm hoping that Gilly's move back to Australia will re-open the door for my return to the starting line-up.
I managed to get only my second start since the middle of November at the weekend. However, the first was in a friendly and Saturday's was for the reserves.
I had been thinking about speaking to the manager to see if I could play a couple of games for the reserves and it seems that he has been thinking along the same lines.
My hope now is that he wanted me to play a full game because I am in contention to start against Stenhousemuir on Saturday but time will tell.
I had been looking forward to the game and I did enjoy it, even if it was frustrating at times.
I've got a lot of respect for the reserve coaches, George Paterson and Steven Woodward, and it got me thinking that perhaps I would like to stay in the game once I finish playing.
I have always maintained that once I hang my boots up that will be it for me. Saturday made me come away thinking slightly differently as I thoroughly enjoyed helping the young lads in the team.
Both George and Woody are great with the boys and they encouraged me to be vocal and communicate with both them and the players. I'm not sure if any of the boys were taking anything in but I certainly made sure they heard me!
As I'm sitting typing my column right now the snow has really started to fall where I am.
We don't get too much snow where I live so this can only mean that it is much worse up and down the country. As has happened already with the midweek fixtures this will no doubt mean more postponements for weekend games.
We have been very lucky at Annan this week. Our local neighbours at have no fixture due to the Scottish Cup this weekend so have, very kindly, loaned out their pitch covers.
They were already in action on Tuesday night so fingers crossed they will do the trick and we will see some football played at Galabank.

For your information or trying to keep it down to words of smaller syllables just for you...this is what happened.
The paperwork was completed on time, it had nothing to do with Arshavin being held up personally by the snow because as you rightly said, he arived in London on the Sunday.
The delay was at the F A's end because of weather events on late Monday. This meant there was a delay in ratifying deals completed later Monday afternoon. They were up being ratified because the F A had to check the paperwork on Tuesday as there was no-one to do it on Monday due to the weather. Get it?
Now this is not unusual, last year a Portsmouth player's ratification did not come through til 4 days after the deadline. This did not cause a ripple. Why? Hmmm... Let me see... Oh yes...it was not Arsenal involved!!
Get over yourself! No-one has mentioned the other 3 or 4 transfers which also weren't ratified by the F A til Tuesday - purely to staff issues, due to the weather. All of which were also ratified by the F A. So when scrutinised and explained by the F A to the Premier League chairmen all is understood and agreed. Except of course to lazy journalists.

Example - when he disgracefully forced Spurs players to play while sick so Arsenal could steal the last CL place. He should have been sacked for that!

Do you scour the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ website looking for any mention of Arsenal, in order to complain about it? Chris didn't even say anything negative about the three Ars-es. Just relax, breathe and everything will soon be forgotten about.
Thanks for the blog Chris.

They make it sound as if the documents were all handed in 24 hours late and that the deal is therefore obviously illegal. We all know this was not the case, so why keep banging on about the 24 hour stat.
Secondly re the weather - surely there is more to getting a deal done than just Arshavin being in London. If the weather prevented anyone involved in the administration of the deal from getting to work, I guess that could hold it up a little.
(And, defensive or not, RVP1968 is correct in every point he makes. Its particularly odd that no report of the 'controversy' ever seems to mention that the Arshavin transfer was not the only deal ratified a day later...)

Get over yourselves. Your not the team you once were and it looks like the top 4 is getting out your reach now. Please, do yourselves some favours and see the bigger picture: your heading down instead of up.
And why do Arsenal fans have this mentality that every fan that doesn't support Arsenal hates Arsenal?
GET OVER YOURSELVES.

Now then, the reason the Arshavin deal is the one the media pick up on is because it is a high profile deal to a high profile club
It would be the same had it been Man Utd, Liverpool or Chelsea as they are the highest profile clubs.
Now I know Arsenal are slipping out of the top tier (no trophies for years and years now - tut tut) but it surprises me that even Gooners are admitting they are comparable to lesser teams.
2 other points:-
1. Surely it seems dodgy that this one was so late, if the FA staff had trouble getting to work due to the weather to ratify the deal, how come the other deals went through on-time?
2. Yes, I can also see Chelsea slipping out, we are rubbish of late. (Villa could eclipse us both this year)

Don't go starting on everyone else, it's not our fault the arsenal aren't going to be in the champions league next season...i'd love it if Zenith were....we'll see Arshavin moving back there, wanting Champions league football !!

Personally I make no apology, nothing I stated is incorrect. In fact what I have written is probably one of the few statements of real truth on this particular topic here on the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ website. Its this which made me so angry, people who are not journalists were thinking this was the case when it was nothing of the sort.
There is a huge groundswell of people thinking the move "was completed" 24 hours late. This is due to either poor, misleading or mischievous journalism. You can make your own mind up which.
The fact that Chris Jardine is not a real journalist is no excuse for poor writing. I am pretty sure I would come in for dogs abuse if I guested in his football team (heaven forbid) and predictably, had a mare.
You know what you do when you take a job on, however harsh that might seem toward Chris. Journalists have to report who, how, where and when. It's one of the first things they learn in journalism, like establishing the facts.

I have to say that I do feel I over reacted to the whole thing. Unfortunately, I think I mis-directed my frustration on the misleading story that was the Arshavin transfer saga. I fired the bullets at you, purely because I could. Apologies.
I think I read your blog after listening to Sky Sports, reading newspapers like the Daily Mail and ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Sports football website, all of which were inaccurately reporting the story.
The real turn of events was openly available to anyone who wanted to seek the truth on Arsenal.com, in written format and on video. It was also available through the Football Association.
Statements from the F.A. bore out the news from Arsenal on the transfer timeline so you have to question the motives of other media to report a different story. Not once on the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ, Daily Mail or other media, have I seen a story refuting the scurrilous accusations levelled at the club and F. A. when the information is clearly in the public domain. You have to question why this is? The premier league chairmen had it explained to them and were entirely happy.
If the various media responsible for the fuorore had used the same levels of coverage actually reporting the truth on the matter later on, as they did trying to find dirt, then that would have added some balance. This also might have allowed you to understand what had happened and not wonder whether there was any underhand dealings going on.
As for the guys supporting other teams who've had a pop at me for stating my case, that just goes with the territory and is water off a ducks back.
