Fire up the barbie...

Chris Evans | 12:53 UK time, Friday, 25 May 2012

You know it's going to be a hot one. Well, what a fantastic show that was for a Friday. Lee Mack joined me, and you bombarded me with your barbequeing tips for the sizzling weekend ahead. And what a creative bunch you are. Stan Dupp's recipe for success is to pop a banana on the barbie. You slit the skin, push in some chocolate, wrap it in some foil, and give it ten minutes of heat. Then when the foil is opened, the skin will be black, the banana soft and the chocolate melted - top notch! But Mark in Wilmcote takes those bananas to the next level, by cutting them into chunks then wrapping them in bacon. But be sure to secure them with a cocktail stick - and go easy on the heat! James in Derby preferred a large flat mushroom - cooked for 10 minutes per side, served in a bread cob, and eaten like a burger. The juices are just incredible, he reckons.

Last word goes to Chas, who suggests that you've just got to sacrifice your first 4 sausages to get it fired up, and then it's hot hot hot ready for a juicy steak!

Now get that factor 50 on folks!

Peace and Love

Hi Chris: oooh, I love a barbie! Chances of us having one this weekend? Nil - MrS does not "do" barbies! Have a great weekend, and I hope Tash is surviving this heat! xx

Hi everyone else: hope you are all ok. Super busy at work, so this is just a "quickie".

Bids: Loved your story about Chris - like Sezza, I am not surprised - we know only too well from experience what a sweetheart Chris Evans is.

Have a great weekend everyone - will try to pop in at some point.

    C xx

p.s. Now, I know this is probably futile ... but come on, Engelbert!

No BBQ for us Christoff, a pub lunch is more appealing to me! Enjoy your weekend, and here's hoping Tash delivers baby Evans safe and sound. Pleased to see she's not too posh to push!

AliB, Enjoy lunch with your friend tomorrow, hope you get a lie in first, after Street Pastors tonight.

Sezza, I didn't exert myself too much, but did take a phone call while having lunch, how very dare they, lol

    Hello CE & Everyone.

Very hot in the garden, even the cats have come back in side.

I like a traditional barbie CLP, i.e. burgers, sausages, chicken, etc. but that large flat mushroom served in a cob sounds good.

I like the Eurovision song contest! I like the silliness of it all but I don't like the political stuff as this should have nothing to do with a song contest. I enjoy Graham Norton's commentary, he is every bit as good as Sir Tel imho. It would be quite something if Engelbert did win and so I'm going to be very optimistic.

I've done something today I'm very proud of, I won't explain what it is here for security reasons but I'm becoming a computor whizzkid and turnin g into quite a nerd.

Evening each. Hot, hot, hot in Fife, although went over the bridge this morning in fog.

Have 6yr old and 9yr old staying over tonight. They're tucked up in the futon with books, so probably no sleep this side of midnight.

Great show this morning Chris and the bbq tips were good. No barbecue for us tomorrow - all my lot are descending on daughter's, a barbecue for 14 would probably set the street alight, given daughter's propensity for accidents.

Back in a bit when I've caught up.

Ali (from previous blog) - if the sun disappears next week I will hold you personally responsible.

Bingo - I agree about Hurt - a really powerful song, but then I like anything by Johnny Cash. One of my favourite CDs is Duets by him and his wife.

Bids, liked your story about Chris. I watched the One Show tonight and saw him looking very serious and interested during a piece about the 2nd World War (I think). Couldn't hear a word because of the little'uns but I did think 'what a nice man'.

    Evening all

Such a beautiful day today! Walk round the field with my Mum and the dawg, final "it's gcse, I'm going to be late" school pick up, and no scouts so no taxi run!

Pen, I hope you've recovered from the unplanned exertion at lunch time! I recommend a little drink!

    Well done whizz kid Maddy!

Chrissie, hope work settles down for you

    Annie, enjoy the family get-together

And Christoff Lambie Pie! Just think how much sweeter it will be going to the Monarco Grand Prix next year with your wife and your two little boys and maybe your daughter too. Here is your place now!

Sezza, good luck to the boy with his GSCEs.

6yr old is now asleep and 9yr old is almost there.

The 6yr old was telling me that he almost lost his teddy at the weekend. This teddy is hanging by a thread and minging but he loves him dearly. He (teddy) was left on a bench at a playpark by mistake, but fortunately was recovered. 6yr old said 'Gran, my heart was beating really fast'. Bless.

    Morning,

Looks like everyone is out enjoying the sun - I hope so. It's cracking the flagstones here, with a nice gentle breeze.

All the chores are done, changed the bed, washing, dusting, cleaned the bathroom etc etc. Off out for a late lunch with a friend soon and then I shall iron all my summer clothes when I get back.

Street Pastors was very quiet last night, which is a good thing. I left the church at 3:45am just as the dawn chorus was starting and the sun was beginning to rise - a very weird feeling. So I had to go to bed with an eye mask on and ear plus in! Managed to get about 5 hours sleep, so not too bad.

I hope everyone has a lovely day in the sun.

Afternoon each. Another glorious day, hope everyone is enjoying it.

Spoke too soon last night - 9yr old couldn't get to sleep because of the heat and popped into my bed at midnight for a chat, then stayed there all night. The 6yr old joined us, plus teddy, at 5.30, so we were up, showered, dressed and out by 9.30 in search of ice lollys, then to the playpark (minus teddy).

Am back from daughter's, where the whole lot of them gathered - total mayhem, half-naked little'uns running about the garden, the 12yr old and his friend setting fire to bits of paper and plastic with a magnifying glass and the sun, and the grown-ups nattering to each other. Love it, but am now shattered and contemplating a wee snooze.

    Hi everyone:

I have to confess that MrS and I watched Eurovision last night, and we really enjoyed it, in a very weird way! Yes, some of the songs and the acts themselves were dire, but it was compelling, I have to say. We put the radio on while all the voting was taking place, and then came back to see that poor Engelbert (who actually did nail his song) had been bombed out! No surprise, of course, Eurovision is totally political now, and it's nothing to do with the songs. I am NOT watching it next year!

Maddy: I agree, Cliff was robbed of first place - Congratulations was a brilliant song, and so right for Eurovision.

AliB: good to hear the Street Pastors was quiet - as you say, it must be really weird going home at dawn.

Annie: lovely story about the teddy - bless your wee grandson. I remember MsS being quite obsessed with her "blankie" - she would be distraught if she couldn't find it - and she remembers this clearly!

Sezza: sounds like you had a great day yesterday - just lovely.

    KKS: nice to see you!

Busy day ahead - have to catch up with the housework, though all the washing is up to date - thanks to the beautiful weather, I got it all dried outside yesterday. And, then, there is the little matter of getting ready to go out later this afternoon for an early dinner with my daughter and my sister, and then on to ... Westlife! So looking forward to it, and then we'll be saying goodbye to them for good when we see them again in June. Well, that is, until they realise they have made a HUGE mistake, and they re-form!

    Have a lovely Sunday, everyone.

    C xx

  • Comment number 23.

    Hello Chrissie.

I agree the song contest is completely political, Graham was saying that Engelbert had been forgotten as he sang first but it's all about us in Britain not being popular since the Iraq war.

I'm now going to embarrass you know who :) He also had a blankie (the blanket he was wrapped in to come home) and wouldn't go to sleep without it.

I'm very jealous of you going to see Westlife and then again in June. Enjoy and don't forget to sing along.

    MM xxx

PS I wonder if baby No 2 has arrived yet?

  • Comment number 24.

    Hiya:

Just having a wee look while listening to the end of RM. I have to say, I think he has found his niche with this show on Sunday. Fabulous music, and he just seems to be really enjoying himself. Good luck to him, I say - but I do miss Michael Ball!

Maddy: isn't that so funny about the blankie! Yes, my daughter's blanket was the one I brought her home in, too. Took me YEARS to wean her off it! Thanks, Maddy, it is fair to say I will be hoarse tomorrow after all the singing tonight!

I am having one of those crazy days when you just clean everything in your path - you know what I mean, I'm sure. Kitchen and bathroom completed blitzed if MrS goes near either of them, I'll be most displeased! Well, ok, I'll let him use the bathroom, but any disruption of the kitchen is not allowed! Off to clean the front door ... somebody stop me!

    C xx

  • Comment number 25.

    Chrissie.

Well done on the cleaning. I am trying to force myself to do the vacuuming but feel that I should be down on the prom. Another excuse is that Daisy the cat is asleep on her favourite armchair instead of her usual place of on top of the bush in the garden and so she won't be happy when the vacuum cleaner comes out.

You deserve to enjoy yourself tonight.

Right! I'm going to pull myself together and get it done. Daisy will have to go back to her bush outside (I will join her later).

I'm definitely off to the prom tomorrow while the summer weather's here!

I spent the weekend up near Milton Keynes, we travelled up to play Collingtree Park Golf Club after winning a free (well if you discount our bid!) round of golf. I was going to say more but have forgotten what it was.

    Good afternoon all,

Hard getting onto the blog today ,but got here in the end .So are you all enjoying this lovely weather that we are having at present ,nice eh!!!

Did catch some of the show this AM where Chris said he thinks something might be happening on the baby front ,I do hope so for Tash's sake ,she must be right fed up by now.

Not been posting for a few days ,but have been reading posts so still around but not posted as I've got a bit of a poorly shoulder and it's giving me jip and I'm trying to rest it .And when you are mostly a one handed typer it's a bit difficult to try with your other hand ,my lovely mum always did say that I was awkward ,being left handed and all .

Crissie ,thank you for missing me in the mornings ,I promise bulletins will resume ASP ;-))

Well good luck Tash if it is today ,And I hope the wee one comes quick ..

Take care all and enjoy the rest of your day .Bids.xxx.

Hiya Bids: how lovely to see you, I did suspect something "was up". Sorry to hear about your poorly shoulder - I hope it starts to behave itself, very soon! Take care of yourself, and we look forward to your morning posts, just when you can. xx

I went out at lunchtime to pick up an "under the arm" briefcase that my boss had inadvertently left in a client's office. I said: no problem, I'll pick it up, and then go and pick up my lunch. Not a chance - it weighed about two tons - I had to come all the way back to the office, drop it off, and then head out for my lunch. Walked about a mile ... now that's got to be a good thing, eh?! How he carries that about with him every day, is beyond me!

Ooooh, I really hope the lack of Chris means that Tash is being very busy at the moment!

    Afternoon each

    Where's that baby????

Nice to see you Tiggs, glad you're ok.

Bids, poor you with a sore shoulder. Us left-handers have to put up with so much, don't we? My sore thumb will be shown around to those in Edinburgh in June - it's pretty disgusting now - and it's on my left hand which is a bummer.

CSN, hope the family member gets good results.

Chrissie, I sympathise with the underarm bag - I can barely lift 12yr old's schoolbag.

Maddy, you've got our sun, give it back immediately.

    Hellooooooooooo to everyone else.

  • Comment number 75.

    Hello all.

Thank you Annie, sorry to hear you still have a sore thumb, it sounds very painful. xx

Just had a bit of rain but still very humid here.

Might have a cold glass of sparkling wine while dinner is cooking.

Hope you all have a lovely evening.

Enjoy your sparkling wine CSN. We've got rain too.

And a ps on the 12yr old. He came home on Tuesday with the pocket ripped off his school shirt - what is it with bullys? His Dad has emailed the school so we shall see what transpires.

Did anyone see Dunfermline High School on the One Show last night? I got excited when I heard 'Dunfermline' - thought it was going to be about the Glen and the Peacocks and nice photos of the town. Hopefully those young people will have their lives turned around.

Annie, I really feel for your poor little grandson, must be awful for him.

Bullies are the scum of the earth!

    CSN. xxx

  • Comment number 79.

CSN, I agree. He copes very well - he knows he's brighter than them - he's now got 3 Certificates for good behaviour in his first year. And he can beat them all in computing.

  • Comment number 80.

Annie, what a clever little boy. Bless him!

I do hope something is sorted out very soon to put a stop to him being bullied.

Bullying is awful whatever age you are in life, but I always feel it's far worse for a child to have to cope with it at a very young age.

Good Evening from very up North!!

I do hope there is some news of baby Evans soon!

We made it - finally! The Island is beautiful, especially in this sunshine! I keep trying to remember to take the camera out with me when I walk the dog, and I will do better and put more on fb to make you all very jealous!

The boy is already settled in the schools integrated nursery, and has started in 'big' school for one morning a week, with the other two kids in his year, yes two!

So not only have we moved from one end of the country to a very small island community, gone self employed (well t'other has anyway), but I'm expecting baby no. 2 just after the boy's 5th Birthday as well!!

I'll be back a bit more often now we're settled (kinda, I'll explain another time!)

    Rain here in Wirral today.

Nothing much to report, just popped in to say hello while I'm waiting for the rain to stop before I go out but I think it could be on for the day.

Bit grey here today too. Had a big thunderstorm last night and it feels like there's another one brewing

Debs, i think Chris is (meant to be) on the radio before the big concert

Maddie, Take care out there. Don't get a chill in the damp

I'm trying to summon up the enthusiasm to clear my desk for the long weekend but it is sadly lacking!

Maybe if I have some lunch that'll help? Leftover sarnies from yesterday's meeting are still looking ok so that's me sorted!

The Olympic flame is passing through Warrington right now.I can hear music from the office windown, as there is some party going on in the nearby park We are going to watch it in a few weeks time when it comes to Manchester .
    Right, got to fly,
    Love to all,

Back again now, the light rain didn't stop but it got quite windy too. Annie did I send the sun up to you?

³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ delivery due later, I put iced lollies on my list but I don't think they're needed now so they will stay in the freezer ready for the return of summer.

Debs-TV Choice (other tv listing magazines are available) is in my delivery so I'm going to see what exactly is taking place with the Jubilations.

MC-The Olympic flame will be in Birkenhead tomorrow so we're planning to do a bit of shopping and then watch it after 5.45. There's sports and fitness going on in Birkenhead Park but that's not really me unless there's a scooter race.

Sezza-it is a bit damp, will we need need the heating on again after trying to keep cool with all the windows open yesterday?

CSN-Yes, we do need a new blog from Chris but not before the 100th post :)

    Afternoon all,

Sunny here this morning ,but a tad cloudy now ,but it hasn't stopped Ken putting up some bunting and the Union Jack in in the garden .the gazebo is up so if there is rain we will have shelter .we're not doing anything big but still will celebrate HRH 60Th ,that the least we can do for such a great lady .

I'm wondering if the pacing has started in the Evans house hold yet,If not Chris ,I recommend that you and Noah and Tash have a run around that garden of yours ,never know it just might speed things up ;-)

Just enjoying an afternoon film so better get back to it ,take care and I'll pop back later .
