Never before has a capitalist been loved by so many...

Chris Evans | 09:09 UK time, Thursday, 25 August 2011

...This is what they are saying in Silicon Valley about Steve Jobs - the now former CEO of Apple - after he resigned yesterday due to continuing ill health.

I don't know this man, nor have I ever met him, but he seems to be a good sort and I hope he gets better. And he's talented enough for the value of Apple to take a 7% hit following the announcement of his departure.

Did you know that Apple have more actual cash available than the US government? Now that's a piggy bank.

Pay attention to those studies kids, there's always room at the top for the best bods.

Peace and love and happy Thursday.

Hi Chris: I really do feel for Steve Jobs - what a difficult decision for him to make. I also hope he gets better - for all the money he may have, I'm sure what he would want, more than anything, is his health.

    Morning Chris and all,

Such a shame for Steve Jobs, one’s health is so precious and even with all of his wealth it goes to show there really is still things money cannot buy. He has given this modern world so much has already booked his place in history!

I hope all of us are well? I am packed and ready for the off to Dublin for the rugby! I have to say I am looking forward to it like a kid at Christmas! LOL

    Keep smiling

    Hello CE & Everyone.

A nice sunny but cloudy day here today.

We certainly need people like Steve Jobs. Where would we b e without them, not on this blog for one thing. I do hope that he makes a full recovery.

I have a bit of a cold and so have been advised to take my emergency supply of antibiotics & steroids which I've started today. After what happened last time it has to be nipped in the bud just in case. I don't want that large oxygen mask again. Oh no!

    hello all

sorry for not being around, new job has started and I'm not in a routine yet - this is a wonderful place to work - really pleased with the job move. PS - I can see the M4 from my window - junction 5, so give me a wave if you pass.

Rips - beautiful words, I've had a falling out with what was my best mate and have sent her a card in the post to try and make up - really hoping she talks to me this time.

    maddy - stay well.

    Hi everyone:

Managed to have a wee catch-up:

CSN: how lovely the kitten was found - that's great news.

Rips: excellent post from you this morning. Honestly, I have so many people I should be contacting - really must do this.

Bids: yes, I have been at my desk, and working "reasonably" hard!

Maddy: take it easy, ok? Well done for nipping in the bud. xx

Baggy: hope your friend sees sense - life really is too short. Great to hear the new job is working out for you.

Pen: I can safely say that in 5 years of reading this blog (yes, five whole years!) I have never seen anyone say they have just stuffed a marrow - sounds a bit of a challenge!

    Afternoon everyone

Sorry for my absinthe it has been horrendously busy here in ta pit. Wedding was lovely on Saturday just gone and I can say I was truly shattered on Sunday.

Been all over the place the last few days with trips to Brum Brum and flitting here and there. Doing a boot sale on Monday as it is bank holiday and 4 days at work before I breaks up for me jolly bobs.

Haven't caught up properly but I hope everyone is good and hope that those who are feeling under the weather feel better soon. Especially Mr Jobs who has battled his illnesses recently and I hope he makes a full recovery.

    Take care bloggers

    Hello again.

Just had a call from Bingo who's coming here for his dinner tonight. He wants something better than the frozen mushroom risotto I was going to shove in the microwave. So now it's steak (which was half price), mushrooms, egg, chips and half a tomato. Must say I am looking forward to it myself.

I've also had a call from the hospital to bring forward my outpatients appointment from next Thursday to tomorrow which I have a feeling is no coincidence. So I must say that I am feeling very safe.

  • Comment number 16.

    Hi Chrissie!

The back is sort of getting better but still hurts in an ouch-twinge-sharpness kind of way! I had some Chiro on Monday and yesterday, which included manipulation (ouch!!), massage (nice and ouch, equally) and acupuncture (fantastically wonderfully lovely!). Back for more tomorrow.

Hope everyone in blogland is well. I'm now going to make a cake for my Nic as it's his birthday tomorrow.

    Back later.

Maddy: you have no idea how much I would love to be having that meal tonight! Isn't that incredible about the hospital appointment?

Cheryl: good to hear from you - that's good to hear about all the treatment, and that it's working. And, happy baking!

CSN-I don't usually but today I took my scooter into the supermarket, it's amazing how people keep out of the way ha ha! I'm happy to report that I didn't knock anything off the shelves.

Chrissie-I know you've gone home but if you should read this later:
I hope everything runs smoothly for you with the moving, you must be so excited. Although you will miss your old house you will soon settle in and turn it into your own. As Lloyd Grossman used to say 'who would live in a house like this?' I don't know what he would make of me lol!

PS Why do they always say to grill steak for 5/7 mins. when it takes more like 35/37 mins? I know that the chefs like to do it rare but I don't like blood on my plate!

    Evening all

Chris' blog today really does make you think that you can have all the money in the world but if you haven't got your health then it counts for little.

Sometimes it's good to think of everyone who is struggling

Maddy, you take care of yourself won't you. Thank goodness you were able to recognise the signs quickly and take the medicine

Chrissie, How exciting to have a moving date. It'll be non-stop for the next week but just remember where you packed the kettle and the wine!!

We're off to Devon tomorrow and the boys are upstairs "packing"!! Awful lot of noise going on for "packing"

Shoudl I go and investigate do you think or just allow them to discover what happens when you go away with 3 1/2 pairs of socks, no pants and your third best t-shirt?

    Sezza xx

  • Comment number 24.

    Hi All

Just caught up. I think that Steve Jobs has done the right thing, he is looking after his health and the company is well set up to carry on without him.

Chrissie, ooooh how exciting to have a moving date so quickly. I hope you manage to get all the clearing out and packing done in time.

Now then, stuffed marrow - I haven't had that since I was a child, it was one of the few dishes that my mum could make (that wasn't your standard meat and 2 veg....) I would like to try it myself but unfortunately it's a bit to much 'veg' for the OH (it's not beans or peas which is the limit of his '5 a day'...)

Maddy - I know you don't like blood from your steak but are you cremating it???? Personally 5-7 minutes is the most I will cook a steak for but then I like it very rare (nearly moooing!!).

Sezza - get them to make a list of what they need to pack, I try to do that now as I have forgotten various things in recent years (toothpaste, socks !!!) mind you there are always shops not far from wherever you are going.

Rips - I have made some wonderful friends through this ere blog. Great in't it?

    Time for 'stenders.

    Hugs to everybody.

    Greetings CLP & ALL...

    Bingo Star 'ere...

CLP - Yes Steve Jobs 'as been suffering with ill 'ealth for a long time now!!!!!!!

I don't wish bad on anyone... But one thing a will say about capitalism/ capatilists..... It's too much capatilism that's got the US goverment into the mess that it's in!!!!!!!!!

Yes, yes.... YES a know everything a own.. a 'ave... i've got 'as come to me through capitalism..... But the problem with us 'umans we just don't know when ter 'it the brakes.... Until it's too late!!!!!!!!

Too much capitalism is bad.... The western world seems too obsessed with capitalism/ money.... And sadly that's why you see especially in the UK (outside London... As London is like a different country comapredf ter the rest of the UK) so many unhappy people in our society!!!!!!

It's all money, money.... And if you 'ave not got material things your classed as a loser.... Bit like if yerv not got the latest i-pod or Apple Mac PC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'aving said that.... people in poor countires.... Or countries with a dictator don';t seem ter be too 'appy either!!!!!!!!

To me what yer need is freedom... with discipline!!!!!!!!!

    Too much freedom is bad!!!!!!!

Which is what 'appened with the recent credit crunch!!!! Money was being given to anyone.... Just ter try & build capitlaism bigger & bigger... until... POP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment number 26.

Too much discipline is bad too!!!! asin living in supression under a strict dictator!!!!!

What yerv gotta get is the 'appy medium!!!!!! (and a don't mean a 'appy clairvoiant!!!)

So what is the 'appiest country in the world?????

    A don't know!!!!!

Sadly it's not the UK nowadays for sure... Or most of Europe or the US of A!!!!!!!

One country that I do find to be very happy... Where the people seem so friendly.... polite... easy going!!!!!!!
Where society 'as respect is Thailand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now Thailand 'as embraced capitalism.... But not too much!!!!!!!
People still matter there... Not just money!!!!!!

The people look up to the King Of Thailand who 'as served for 60 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe this is what's needed a good leader.... But without being OTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Soory if a got slightly carried away today.... But capitalism is a somewhat troublesome word for.... Not just ter spell... But what it means for all of us!!!!!!!

Am off ter dip me chips in me runny egg!!!!!!

    Tatty bye!

But yes Apple took on the mighty Gates dude... And sort of won!!!!!!!

An Apple PC is more sort after than a Microsoft - know what am sayin'!!!!!!

And Apple is the only choice for all musicians.... Even my 'ero Chris Martins seems ter like Apple.... In fact did 'e name 'is child after The Apple??????

    Hi everyone:

First things first: Happy Birthday Nic! Hope you have a lovely day, and no doubt Cheryl has one or two surprises planned ...!

Maddy: hope all goes well for you today. Thank you so much for your lovely message yesterday. I know, it will be strange to be in a new place, but MrS and I are really looking forward to making the flat "ours".

Rips: well said - I have made some special friendships through this blog that I know are for life - never in a million years would have met these people were it not for Chris Evans.

Sezza and Bids: yes, indeed, I shall be having a separate bag to house the kettle and wine, and shall guard it with my life!

mtd and CSN, and just everyone who has been so supportive over this ruddy house move: thank you all for just being so great. I promise that next week, I am not going to mention another thing about it!! xx

Bingo: you were on top form last night!

Pen: James Martin - the man is a babe ... what's not to love?!

CG: lovely to see you. To echo Bids, just you come on here as and when you can. And I have to say, I am totally with you regarding Chris's show. Some mornings I can feel terrible, worrying about something or whatever, but then I switch Chris on, and within minutes the world is a much better place. Take care, ok? xx

Had a lovely few days off last week but I've paid for it with all the catching up at work to be done - never mind!

I love James Martin too, he is a babe.

Happy Birthday Nic, and I'm sorry I missed Ali's birthday when I was away, so very belated Happy Birthday to her!

Tried to catch up but it was just too much, so I hope everyone is ok and you all have a great weekend.

I know the expiry date on my hoover warranty Pen. Mine packed up on my birthday. What better present could a girl wish for?

Hello to everyone. If anyone is thinking of coming camping in this direction for the weekend, I have two words of advice to give!!

Oh and anyone wondering where the summer has gone, I think it oficially returns, the same day as the kids go back to school. Scotland excluded, as they have already returned.

Time for work. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

    Hello lovely Evansblogpopppets!

Sorry I've not been over the fence for a while. My excuse is I don't generally 'do' climbing (it's my dodgy knee, you know), and I was promised a gate which hasn't materialised. Somebody ought to check that order.

Anyhoo, I'd like to wish the extremely gorgeous and talented (so he tells me) Nicrolastic a very happy 25th birthday! It is your 25th, right?

Lovely to see some of you next door recently - we've had visits from MTD and welshbirdbillie amoungst others. It would be great to see a few more visiting. And I am getting very excited about meeting some of you for the first time and renewing acquaintances from last year, at CiN in November!

    Hello Everyone.

Deebee-I must jump over the fence sometimes, I've been over there a couple of times but always end up back on my own side. I'm too set in my ways.

I'm happy to report that I'm AOK after my hospital appointment. I was right in thinking that it had been brought forward because of my bit of a cold at the moment. And that I had been 'close to the edge' with my last infection (it shocks me to hear those words even though I know myself it was the case.) So I continue the antibiotics and steroids for a week.

Thanks to those wishing me well!

    that should have said bud,doh!!!!

  • Comment number 62.

    Thanks Bids.

I might not even need the antibiotics & steroids but it's best to be sure and the steroids will give me a nice boost anyway.

I hope you enjoyed your cup of tea and sarnie. I'm always drinking apple juice these days which I suppose must be a good thing.

Gail: lovely to see you back. Glad you and David had a nice break.

Pen: as you say, typical! I don't think I have ever had the benefit of a guarantee still being in date!

CSN: love it! Yes, getting there - tomorrow will see everything packed. Should be hilarious watching MrS cope with only enough socks, underwear and shirts for 6 days!

MTF: always lovely to see you. The blog misses you!

Deebee: really nice to see you. I am so looking forward to meeting you at CiN! Shall I bring along the letter I received from Mark King, in 1989? I didn't throw that away!

Bids: well done on getting all the shopping done. Enjoy what's left of the afternoon ... and perhaps a small glass of wine to relax over, later?

Maddy: good news about your hospital appointment. It's great to hear you are being so well looked after. xx

We're getting there folks ... just leaving 4pm, phew!

    Woo hoo

First Pen gets the ARF then the bloggers anthem. What a start to Friday evening.

I'm off out shortly to a launch party for a new anti-aging cream. Not my usual sort of thing but there's champagne, raffles and freebies so I thought why not.

Back later for what's left of FNWC.

    Hi folks

Apologies for the absence, been trying to sort out the house a bit, and seem to be making more of a mess than I'm clearing!

Just now sitting down with a glass of wine and having a rest.

Rips, read your story, sorry about your friend, and agree about the friends you make on here... I am in touch with loads of folk I met through here in various ways, and those friends mean so much!

Which brings me to an apology for not being here often enough...Sorry, will try better!

Chrissie, good luck with the move!! I know how you feel about getting rid of stuff, I've spent all week de-cluttering!

    Anyone for a top up?

    Hi again

Paella is bubbling, wine is poured - the weekend has officially started. Yay!

    Thanks for the welcomes earlier.

MM - glad to hear you're okay. You hang in there, hun!

Chrissie - LOL! I'm glad to hear you haven't thrown the letter out. Yes, why don't you bring it to CiN, I'd love to see it. Although it won't exactly be Mr King who'll be on my mind on that particular day... ;o)

Annie - congratulations. Harry the Snapper from 'next door' has also just become a grandparent again, so you're in good company.

MTD - let me know if the cream sounds good. Every little helps...

Well, the food needs some attention, and so does the glass by the look of it.

Have a good evening one and all.
