Reserve Champions.

Chris Evans | 11:09 UK time, Tuesday, 10 May 2011

What a wonderful conciliatory phrase that is, especially to sit along a swish silver trophy. And silver is the new gold apparently. Oh alright ! We didn't win gold at last night's Sony Radio awards for Best Brekkie Show, but our warmest congrats to 5 Live who did - and to our other fellow nominees.

Hats, caps and helmets off also to Simon M for winning gold in his category and Jezza V for a brace of belters. In fact well done everyone, who has done radio well. Here's to tomorrow, the start of another race for the top radio spot, and one no doubt full of the thrills and spills of the friendly but ferociously competition that is national wireless broadcasting.

I know MTF, it's like a number 72 bus....lol. Now when was the last time I got on a bus? Do you know, I couldn't tell you!

Chris, Somebody has to come second and on this occasion it was you guys, but as I said on the other blog - it's a fab show and we all love you. Congrats to Jezza and Mr Mayo xx

I came second once in a fancy dress competition dressed as a lion tamer and I also came third in an egg and spoon race - happy days :)

    Nice and sunny here.

Chris, loved the show and Noah is so cute.

Hope you all have a good day.

Thanks Ali. Its that busy time of year in the garden and that seems to be taking up most of my 'free' time.

Missed out on being able to comment on the wedding due to the blog being down. What a day eh? Really wonderful.

Enjoying a sound here this morning, that I never thought I would, simply the sound of my washing machine churning away. Its been out of action for two whole weeks and the engineer has 'fixed' it so that I may get one or two last washes out of it, before he returns with a new motor. Its all rock n roll here :)

    Happy Days.

    Hey everyone!

Well done on the silver gong Chris ..... Platinum, I tell you! Nobody will be able to tell the difference!

MTF - normality is nice, innit. Just the simple things in life like being up to date with the laundry and ironing, tending to the garden in silent solitude with someone special, cooking a meal with R2 playing in the background. Yep, I love normal, and I'm a normal kind of gal!

Alib - good luck at the barnet fixers. I really need to make an appointment - if I leave it much longer it'll take Monty Don and his strimmer to tame the mane.

Morning csn and dtm. (and anyone else who has snuckled in under the radar)

Can I go home yet? Please ......

I think 'normal' should be the order of the day. If everyone has a crack at it, what a nice place the world would be eh? :)

    Exactly!

Mantra for the day: just be yourself. What's the point in not being yourself when it's yourself you have to embrace and accept.

    Morning All

Deevs, don't know about snuck in under the wire, I've had to battle past the border guards this morning

Something about changes to ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ id? Tried to log on as I usually do but it wouldn't have it

Well done to all the winners and second winners today esp Simon Mayo and Jezza Vine. I was thinking the other day how natural the Drivetime show sounds, always a good time

Thought the breakfast show sound a bit quiet this morning. There was a definate lean towards the "Shhhhh!!!!! Too Loud!!!" in the music. Nice to hear the co-host in too!

MTF, Did you hear Alan Carr play Twilight on Saturday evening? I wondered if you'd turned your attenions to another man!

See you later - I hope!

Hi Chris: well done on the Silver prize! Gold next year, for sure. xx Great to hear that everyone had such a good time last night, especially Jonny!

Hi everyone, hope all is well.

MTF: I know what you mean about liking the sound of the washing machine. I just love it when all the laundry is up to date! And, yes, the Royal Wedding was just magical. btw: on the 500 words page, there is a lovely wee story entitled "Tooth" - you may want to check it out!

Bids: I did mean to say to you yesterday that I saw your post at the weekend regarding your friend's daughter. So very sad. Your words were just absolutely beautiful. xx

    Have a good day, all.

Chrissie - the thought of the Jonny/Ronnie combo made me smile this morning. I think I'd actually pay to see that double act ... unless someone YooToobs it!

    afternoon peeps
Hope all are well, been busy hence absinthe.

Said my congrats over the page to Mr M. Also had to admit that I was wrong when I used to moan about him being boring when he sat in for Chris. You can only do things your way when it's your show and I know really enjoy what bits of Drivetime I hear on the way home.

Bids - like Chrissie I meant to say yesterday how sad it was to hear about your friends daughter. A former colleague of mine lost her daughter at 18 to a heart problem that she had coped with since birth.

Debbie and her family were devastated but knew that her daughter had always made the most of her short life and that she had grabbed every opportunity with both hands deciding to live life to the full regardless of how short it might be. Not doing so would not have been living, it would just have been existing and none of us should settle for that.

OK - better get back to the grindstone.
    Have a good day, all.

    Hiya!

Well done, CLP, on getting silver, nothing wrong in that. I much prefer silver to gold any day, the colour of course! A well deserved gold for Mr Mayo in his category, I love his show, didn’t think I would, but he’s won me over big time.

Bids, very, very sad about your friend’s daughter, life is so not fair x

Chrissie, thoughts are still with you and your family x

Evening CLP and the rest, and congratulations to all the Radio 2 gang who picked up awards last night. There is a huge amount of talent on the airwaves, and I think radio is often overshadowed by the tele-box!

Have been dipping in and out of the top 50 stories for the 500 words competition and I am hugely impressed! I think the judges have a really difficult task choosing the winner!

Thanks for the birthday wishes, I had a nice day, despite being at work, and enjoyed a glass or three of rosé in the evening with friends.

Hope everyone has had a good day

  • Comment number 25.

Huge congratulations to everyone on radio 2 for their awards. I've really warmed to Simon's show over time and think it's a 'great listen', as they say. The best music show on radio 2 for my money has to be Bob Harris country, but that's just me. Yee haw.

As for coming second, well never mind Christoff. When I was a baby barrister and I went off to court for the first time on my own I got back to chambers and my lovely clerk took one look at me and said, "Did you win? Or did you come second?" Bless her. I've had quite a few silvers over the years since then - oh well.

Anyway my lovely blog pals, I'm charging my glass ready for the new batch of wannabe Lord Sugars at nine o'clock. Do you reckon it'll be the usual parade of egomaniacs without a grain of common sense between them? I do hope so.

    Love Barmy xx

How the devil are we today? And HOW FAB was last night's Apprentice?!? Hooked already and counting the minutes down to 9pm tonight for Episode 2.

Not sure I'll be able to play much today as I think I have company in t'office. Ne'everm ind - will pop in as and when time allows.

Debs - how 'cited must you be. Try not to jump on the poor postie or snatch his hand off as he posts the magic envelope through your door! My Duran Duran tickets arrived on Monday so now I'm all set for an evening in Manchester with Jakeygirl in early June .... can't wait!

Barmy - I love the image of you as a "Baby Barrister" ..... :-)

    Hi everyone:

If you get the chance, check out today's Google page - it's fantastic!

Barmy: hope you enjoyed The Apprentice. I didn't see the last series, so I wasn't sure if it would still be "up to standard". Great to see the usual mix of nutters ... and I mean that in the nicest possible way!

Debs: loving the idea of using the ironing board as your desk. You will be so excited to get your tickets! We still don't have ours ...

Just loved Chris's show this morning - suddenly going off-track and deciding to play Beatles "covers"! But, I had to leave the radio at 8.25, so will have to listen again - spend half my life listening again!

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hi AliB:

Ahhh, maintenance - that explains it! I thought I was just Nigel-nae-pals until you arrived!

Yes, the Google page on Monday was terrific - I used to read all the Mister Men books to my gorgeous twin nephews ... who will be 40 this year!

    C xx

  • Comment number 33.

Lol Chrissie, are your nephews married? I'm only a few years old than them ;)

The office walls are very thin around here, next to me is a tiny office which is hardly ever used. However, at the moment there is a meeting going on in there and I can hear every word and I really don't think that I should be! It's not making comfortable listening, thank goodness I have no idea who they are!

It really looks like rain here, which will be a blessed relief.

Not caught the Apprentice as they usually irritate the heck out of me smart a***ed little so and so's that they are although I did really enjoy Junior Apprentice when it was on. Think I was watching CSI last night at about that time.

#28 - Debs what a shame about yesterday and sadly not in Telford on Monday - I have negotiated 2 days a week in Wrexham now (meetings etc permitting) so no travel Mondays & Fridays - RESULT!! Maybe we can catch up on another visit.

    I am on hols 19th to 25th. What does your calendar look like 31st - 2nd or 7th - 9th?

I just spoke to the lovely Lady Chards! Thanks for the advice, and it was fabulous to talk proper like! ;-)

Lunch has beckoned ... cheese and onion crisp, anyone?

re whispering, Adam is always saying to me "indoor voice, mother, indoor voice!" - usually when we are having a frank exchange of views ....! in the supermarket, street, garden etc.

A tea-time rendezvous could be on the cards then. If you (Nic) know of somewhere halfway then I don't mind a bit longer drive home afterwards.
Lets have a think and try to make it happen - probably early June?
