Obi Wan on Radio 2

Chris Evans | 12:37 UK time, Wednesday, 4 May 2011

May the Fourth be with you.

And also with you.

Amen.

Always good to have a well-liked name ring in, and find out they're listening to your show and not some other chancer.

And there's none much cooler than Ewan McGregor who called up this a.m. on International Star Wars day to join in the celebrations.

Oh to be a real life movie star - can you imagine? Helmets off to Team McGregor. Feel free to call back anytime.

Happy shooting Ew.

    Afternoon,

Great show again this morning, although I am convinced that after Lynn's 7:20ish travel news you said thank you Moira. I am going to listen again just to make sure!

Is it OK to confess that I have never watched a Star Wars movie in my life, and never plan too?!?!

Maddy, Lovely to see you are back at home and on the blog. I hope you continue to recover to the full xx

Baggy, Glad the new job is going well xx

Deevs, Defo, if you've got it flaunt it :) and as my Auntie Audrey once said "If you can't hide it decorate it" ;)

Hi Chris: yes, great to hear Ewan this morning, but I had to leave the car, and its radio, and get into the office, just in time! I do rather like Mr McGregor.

Gail: I have never seen Young Adam, but I have read about it - I think it's fair to say that Ewan is not too shy about showing off his "bits"!!

AliB: totally understand about Star Wars - but, you know, you might just like the movies. Especially when Liam Neeson played Qui-Gon Jinn ... Chrissie, concentrate on work, concentrate on work!

As if my day wasn't stressful enough .... then I had a bright idea to look for a hotel in London for a wee trip me and Himself are taking next month .....

Just had a bit of a ta-dooooo (read that as barney!) with a certain purple branded hotel chain (no stranger to Lenny Henry!). We stayed in one of their excellent hotels on Good Friday near my mums for £48 and now they want £330 for 2 nights in London. Scandalous!!!

    It's Ranty Pants Wednesday!

    Hello.

I'm sitting here resting and have been catching up with some of the blog.

Thanks so very much to lovely blog friends for best wishes and prayers. Basically I became very ill in the early hours of Friday morning, couldn't breathe at all and close to collapse, luckily Bingo was staying here that night and I asked him to phone 999. I then started to feel a bit better but deteriorated suddenly in the early hours of Sunday. I was put on the Venturi oxygen mask (feel trapped behind it but it does the breathing and is the cure), given regular blood gases and put on different levels of oxygen. The doctors and nurses are wonderful, special people, what would we do without them? My brother and Bingo were sent for, it was touch and go and thankfully I'm on the mend. I won't pretend that I was brave, I was very frightened!

Something very interesting happened during my stay. Because of my total confusion caused by the levels of oxygen, I couldn't concentrate on anything on the TV. Then I watched The One Show with Chris and Russell Brand and I understood very clearly every word that Russell said and he held my full concentration for a whole hour. I've no idea what this means but there it is.

Had lovely view across the park in the next ward and enjoyed the Royal wedding. I like Wills and Kate, they are very genuine people and if the paparazi give them some space they will be strong.

Which reminds me it's time I watched the you tube wedding video again.

    Again thanks for lovely messages.

Deeves, have a look at the Phoenix Hotel in South Wimbledon £65 a night for a double room with breakfast! Only 30 mins on a tube (South Wimbldon) to the West End. Even free parking if you take a car, I am staying there this weekend. One single, one double for two nights £240! :-)

Cheryl: once again, and I hate to say it, here we have rip-off Britain! It makes me seethe!

Maddy: glad to hear you are taking things easy. I did think that it would all have been very frightening for you. xx I don't watch The One Show, but, hey, it worked for you, so that's great. I agree that William and Kate seem very genuine - I hope they will be very happy together.

    Hiya Crumpy!

  • Comment number 16.

Thanks Keith, but that's just a wee bit too far off the beaten track - we're going to The Globe which is on the South Bank.

Crumpy - I agree 110%. If hotels/restaurants etc weren't so blimmin' expensive in this country, then we may have a brighter income from tourism.

    Grrrrrrrr!!!

Anyhooo, fingers crossed I've cracked it and all for under £300 - a 4* inc taxes and breakfast.

What could possibly go wrong ......

    Lyndyloo.

It was caused by a bad chest infection that's going round at the moment, normally healthy people are coming down with it but for people with COPD it's dangerous, it helped to be with others going through the same thin g and we all pull together and help each other just by talking, there's no way to avoid it other than to go around with a facemask on. On top of that the ward was closed to visitors and all staff were wearing scrubs from Saturday onwards because of bug. Hence my late arrival home. The discharge lounge were not allowing patients from my closed ward and because I was not in the discharge lounge all the ambulances went without me. Together with a pharmacy problem, medication comes from Birmingham, probably stuck in traffic.

So I texted Bingo and arranged with the nurses who are doing all that they can (I would give up and walk out) and he came to collect me after he finished work.

I;m thankful not to have caught bug and that it happened when I was strong enough to be careful. I feel so sorry for all those going through it all.

    And here I am!

Hello all! Hope you're all OK - lovely to see Maddy's name popping up again; long may it continue!!

Nice to hear Chris Packham on with 'our' Chris this morning. He's fairly local to me down here and is a completely wonderful advocate for nature-loving - especially among youngsters. A 100% top bloke. Believe it or not, Jasper-dog himself has made the boat trip to Skomer in Wales that they were talking about! I thought Jasper would be a right old landlubber, but he ADORED the boat ride and had a mini-tantrum when it was over and time to get out! The sea-water around there is so clear and clean too. Just beautiful.

Barking of Jasper - he had an emergency rush-trip to the vets last night. Unfortunately, his painful and rather - um - "obvious" problem is unsuitable for discussion on here! Poor Jazz - once again fate lobs its sticky custard-pie at him...! He's OK now though.

Sorry I missed hearing Ewan McGregor - he's fab. I think my nephew Ewan might actually be named after him...! What a star! Johnny-baiting was fun this morning too - playing the 'Vader' theme over his sports bulletin and the conversation that kept me laughing all the way through my wait at the traffic lights (and made me stall the car when the lights turned green):

Johnny: Do they [Canada Geese] originally come from Canada, then?
Mr. Evans: (dryly) No, Johnny... They come from Hartlepool...

    He-heeee!

    Much love to all,

    Roo and Jasper xxx

P.S. Today's Jasper-joke: Who would win a fight between a Rat and a Hedgehog? The hedgehog would win... but only on points.

Maddy, very good to see you back with us.

Oh, I forgot to mention re. Ewan McGregor. Jasper-dog's girlfriend (one of them, anyway), Onion (an English Bull-Terrier), plays a leading role in a relatively little-known Ewan McGregor film called "Scenes of a S*xual Nature". Despite what the title may suggest, it's an excellent and very interesting film, set entirely on Hampstead Heath on one afternoon, with a good ensemble cast (Catherine Tate, Adrian Lester, Benjamin Whitrow, Gina McKee, plus others along with Ewan and Onion!). It's been on the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ a few times and is worth having a look at if it ever pops up in the schedules again! Roo xx

  • Comment number 25.

    Hi Sezza,

Yeah, I know what you mean about the day - seems like 5 minutes since I got up, hehehe... Ah well, just one step closer to Friday, eh?

Is it still too early to start submitting ideas for the first window in Deevs's Advent Calendar Challenge...? ;-)

  • Comment number 26.

  • Comment number 30.

    Hi all

I get the Beez and advent calendar connection and it is definitely too late to put the sprouts on (hark back to el Tel times then and she who cannot be mentioned...)

Good to see you back Maddy, I'm glad that Bingo is with you for a few days so that you can get back into a routine more easily. Take care of yourself.

I'm looking forward to seeing some midnight sun in a few weeks time - mind you knowing our luck it will be raining when we are in Iceland..... Beware the toedippers are travelling soon so there may be adverse weather or something similar around Britain then. Crumbs, I've just realised that Iceland is the cause of our troubles last year...... Looks like it could be another volcano then......

On that note, I bid you goodnight.

And MTD - it is NEVER too late to get them sprouts on!!! VERY much envying the Iceland trip. Think the volcano is quiet at the moment - not sure about the banks though... Just be sure to stay in the oven-chips aisle, then you can use them to climb to safety, hehehe... ;-)

    Morning all,

I am listening to the last hour of the show, not able to hear it on my way to work, the sun is out so I am on my motorcycle! Whoop!

I will be home in time to vote tonight, I see it as my duty to do so. No point complaining about those elected into power if you do not have your say. ;-)

Quiet on here still, maybe it will pick up again soon? I would be around more if little things like work and putting on a play did not get in the way. I am spending every night rehearsing (no rest for the wicked!) as the 1st night is next Wednesday! Yikes!

    Keep smiling

    I'm here too!

Bit overcast this morning, but not as cold as it looked, so perhaps my three layers weren't necessary after all!

I've been and voted, I've put my crosses in the various boxes and I quite agree with Keith; you can't moan if you don't vote!

Just waiting for the old dears to arrive for their tea and chat, always an entertainment as I listen to their conversation from my office :)
