Great to be back in the hot seat today.

And it's light!

Light on the way to work for the first time this year. This run for us is a busy busy time. Royal Wedding, The Hay Festival and our Children In Need four day extravaganza. So leggings on, head down and off we go. Try to keep up now.

    Morning Chris

It was great to have you back on air this morning, although my Poddypod had a good workout in your absence!

It must be the time of year for busyness - 4 days at work for us and then 11 days off packed full of fun and lovely stuff! Then I think May will be a "feet won't touch the ground" kind of month - all outside of work as nowt's changed on that front: I'm still sat at my desk counting passing cars for 40 hours a week!

Hope everyone else is keeping ok. Sorry for absinthe, I just didn't really have anything to say so thought I'd say nothing .......

Hi Chris: wonderful to have you back! I was downstairs this morning at 6.15, radio on, waiting for you. Show just fabulous, as always. xx

Oh, and as a special wee treat, I heard Vanessa play "Never Gonna Give You Up" - result!

Hi everyone: hope all is well. What a panic when I went on the blog yesterday to find it closed - aaarrggghh!

Cheryl: that's a nice long break you have to look forward to!

    Hi CSN!

    Happy Monday, all.

    Hi Chrissie

REALLY looking forward to some time off with my fella. He's introducing me to the Lake District. We've workout out our itinerary and I think that by Royal Wedding Day (also a local beer festival going on - huzzah!!) I will have gone from my 5'7" self to approx 4'10" ......!

Morning peeps and welcome back Chris.
Only a 3 day week for me as I am taking days off - Thursday until 3 May. Not going away but do have a few nice things planned including 2 possibly 3 trips to the Nantwich Jazz festival which is on over Easter.

Deevs - enjoy the Lake District. Don't forget your Kendal Mint Cake.

Cheryl: yes, sounds like a very physical time lies ahead ... I mean all the walking you'll be doing!

Crumpy: oooh, you enjoy your long break too - wish I had arranged to have extra days off!

CSN: thank you, I did have a good weekend. Bit gutted I missed the FNWC, but I see it was sort of cut off in its prime!

No Kendal Mint Cake on our walk. It's way too calorific and way way way too sweet! Sandwiches, crisps and a flask of bovril/juice (weather depending) for us. May is going to turn out to be a very busy month for me, both at work and out of work. I will need another holiday after that!

    Hello bloggers all
    :^D

I shall await the nod from MTF regarding post count competition which was scuppered by the premature closure of this blog after 7 days...

Deevs and Nic - our friend who is a beer writer in Cumbria helps promote the beer from the Coniston Brewing Co which is a microbrewery in centre of Coniston village attached to The Black Bull.

I will be making another post immediately after this - am experimenting ...

  • Comment number 21.

    Welcome Back Mr Evans,

And thank goodness you are back, why do Radio 2 insist on replacing you with RM - none of us want him and all of us switch off - you are very lucky that we remember to switch back when you return :)

I am glad you had a good break, you were missed.

Afternoon to everyone else, I hope you are fine and well on this lovely sunny April Monday and it's a four day week as well - hip hip hooray. For all of you on your holidays have a nice relaxing time.

I just thought I'd share with you the following: The church hot water boiler started to drip, so I called in BG who are responsible for it and they said it just needed a new part. So imagine my surprise when they sent me a quote for 拢1,800 + VAT for a brand new boiler. According to them the part wasn't available anymore. Well I wasn't settling for that so called in an independant boiler specialist who fixed it for 拢146. So if you live near me and need the name of a good boiler fixer then let me know. I shall be phong BG later on to tell them - can't wait :)

Oh Christoph - thank goodness you're back!!! It's just not the same without you, but for any future vacances, could you please try to swing it so that the scrumptious Richard Allinson covers for you? Anyone else is a very poor substitute in my book - sorry.

I too only have the next couple of days at work. I finish on Thursday lunchtime, when I then collect the keys to our new pad and then on Good Friday it's moving day - hurrah! Thereafter, I will be able to enjoy a garden on days and evenings such as this - can't wait.

There's a bit more packing to do but we're now living with2 x plates, cups and bowls. Luckily I batch-cooked at the weekend so that the pots 'n pans could be packed, and I've just about got enough pants to last me until Friday ......

With that thought I will bid you adieu.

KatyMac: oooh, I love a good mystery - what's the experiment?

AliB: very well done! And, yes, I am sure you will take great delight in telling the other crowd where to go! We recently had our office refurbished. First quote for new wooden blinds (16 of them) was 拢4,700! Yep, five grand for 16 blinds! Our "interior designer" eventually found a company who quoted 拢1,600 - incredible, eh?

Jillygoat: very relieved to hear you should make it through to Friday, pants-wise!
Hope the removal goes well - with all the stuff you managed to chuck out, that should have helped!

Hi all - good to have you back Chris. I have to add my comment regarding the Madeley - I really enjoy him on the radio. He's so enthusiastic about everything and he makes me laugh. Just saying, like.

I hear it's Liza Tarbuck on at Drivetime - I'm very, very happy about that as well.

Barmy (a lone voice, but a happy one). xx

  • Comment number 28.

Katy: ah, are you having problems next door too? Hope they don't cut you guys off before Simon gets back!

An incredible hat and cake for Jillygoat!

    Jillygoat: congratulations!

Barmy: good to see that you enjoyed RM. I did really like him the last time he sat in for Chris, but this time ... well, I just didn't fancy him as much. Really like Liza Tarbuck, though!

    C xx

  • Comment number 29.

    Aww - thanks Crumpy x

Barmy - I hope you don't mind me calling you that as we've only just met .. hi, I'm Katy ...
.. you are not a lone voice. I quite like Richard Madeley. Despite his propensity for amiable tw*ttishness, he's a really decent and kind human being. I know this from a friend who knows him well.
However, I went into cringe mode on 2 occasions during the last week - complimenting the half indian vicar on his tan [hoots of laughter] and the offhand rudeness about Marmalade the 60s band. Muchos grovelage. that was funny as well.

I'm sure Liza will do a fine job in the Drivetime seat.

I really wish, though, that the R2 stand-ins did a proper blog entry as part of their brief - it would make for an interesting read and perhaps ease the difficulties that 'too many posts attached' seem to be causing nowadays.

  • Comment number 30.

    Katy,

I agree with you, it would be really interesting if the stand ins could blog (even RM).

I did think that when I rashly wrote "none of us" it was kind of a royal "none" and I shouldn't have been speaking for the masses. I just find him a bit smarmy and he keeps saying the same thing over and over again.

As for Liza, love her, perhaps she could do Breakfast and I would also be most happy with RA too. Can't wait for French and Saunders Friday and Monday.

  • Comment number 34.

Thank you to Katy and everyone for my lovely cupcake and hat - I've never won anything in my life, so I'm thrilled !!!!!

Of course, it might have been a different outcome if the blog hadn't been as closed as the M1 .......

Chrissie - I've managed to get rid of another bag of clothes to the charity shop since the last van-load. I gave a bag of clothes to a work colleague for her and/or her daughters (stuff I've never worn/grown out of etc) and the following day she came in wearing two of the items - it was really strange seeing my wardrobe walking past my desk!!!

Sorry about the 'pants' mention - that was probably a bit too much detail. Mind you, it could have been 'commando' time if I hadn't managed to salvage some undies before 'im indoors buried the suitcases under a pile of boxes!

And once again on that note I'll slink away.

If RA or JW can鈥檛 do it, maybe LT could, I would listen then.

JW? - Jimmy White, John Wayne!

Bring back little Aled, I really tried with RM last week. I put up with his ghost stories, and some of his other guff, but the main problem I have with him, is his Gary Davies DJ style introduction to the records, lets find a spurious link or obscure segway into the track. Aaaaaaaaargh!

Afternoon all. So glad that everybody is back from whence they have been (holidays, cyberclink etc....)

I am so glad that CE and SM are not on hols at the same time. I think I would lose the will to live with RM at the beginning of my day and then LT at the end.....

I knew RM reminded me of somebody DD - I can't stand the spurious links either. Unfortunately the couple of minutes I caught of LT this evening included the same sort of thing - why is it that CE and SM can show enthusiasm for artists and records without coming over as smarmy or over bubbly?

Going crosseyed now - so will go away for a while (quiz league presentation night tonight - we came third so might get a teeeny trophy).

    Night everyone.

    Sleep well and sweet dreams.

Steve, I'm sure RM is a really nice guy but just wish he didn't try to act like a smoothy on the radio.

Annie, thank you for your help getting me off the naughty step. LOL!

KandKs, what a clever girl you are, well done on all the building work. Saw your photos on fb.

Rosie, hope you have a lovely day out.

Mary, glad you had a lovely weekend with your nieces. Mine was good thank you. What you said about the ironing made me smile, and yes it's a wonderful feeling when it's all done until the next lot appears.

Bids, glad you had a nice week and your daughter had a lovely birthday.

    Dear all

Sorry, haven't been able to cach up but nice to see some old and new faces

Bingo - love to your mum

My news, not the big news that I'm still not allowed to tell you, but other good news is that I have found a new work contract at a different firm once I leave here at the end of the month. Only 6 months but its local and well paid and a saggy old cloth cat shouoldn't complain

    Morning all

    Lovely here again today

Think of me though, boy1 has grown out of all his clothes so shopping for a reluctant teenager!

I think i must be very lucky, haven't really had any major problems with the blog. Mine doesn't bounce (oo-er missus!) and occasionally a post won't go up straight away but I usually get there eventually!

Hope it all gets sorted out

Baggy - congrats on the new contract! But when are we going to hear the big news, eh eh eh???!!!

KandKs - well done on getting a mention yesterday and good luck with the building!

Deevs - I'm off from this Thursday until 3rd May, so plenty of time for unpacking boxes ....... I think 'im indoors is very glad he's back at work after Easter!

Fingers crossed this lovely weather lasts until Friday .... there's nothing worse than trying to move your furniture and boxes in the rain, and I do not want a soggy mattress ta very much!

    Happy Tuesday everyone.

    Morning all,

Great show this morning Chris. I can be found (last door on the right) singing (badly) my heart out to the tunes!

I would just like to give my opinion (for what tit is worth) regarding RM. I can honestly state that I do not find him offensive at all. What I would say though is that he does not captivate me as a listener either. When he is on I find myself simply listening to the music in the background. ;-)

With our very own CLP it is a different story, I feel he makes me (the listener) feel part of the show by his enthusiasm and general up beat delivery of the show. Nuff said鈥︹

I am rather enjoying my ability to be able to blog from work! Thanks you to my IT team!

    Keep smiling

What a treat, the lovely Richard Allinson is sitting in for ZB, who has been covering for KB. How unfortunate that ZB has lost her voice!!

    BEAUTIFUL day here.

    Keith,

I agree about RM but i think that's part of his "charm" as it were. I think it's good that 成人快手 does that with the holiday relief as it gives us a break from the usual and also a chance to hear someone we wouldn't maybe listen to.

    Penny,

RA is a top top DJ very underrated i feel. I used to listen to him a LOT when he did Sat afternoons. Not that keen on SW anymore and haven't been for a long time. JV is good in his slot. Not listened VF but i used to like SK when i was up that early. KB has me in stitches and i like the choice of ZB as his holiday relief. I heard LT as replacement for SM the other evening . . she's another good relief. It's a shame that R&M have moved to 6 as i thought they bought something to R2 that hadn't been there for before (although i do concede that 6 is prob their natural home) I miss ML and his various shows gave me a chance to listen to listen to stuff i'd have no hope or desire of listening to otherwise. AL is good in his slot as well. I think he's well suited to the graveyard shift.

    Morning folks :-D

I hope all's well in your part of the world.

    Morning comrades

Beautiful sunny day here in the Shire of ChezNicia (ok, I'm at work which is over the road, but you know what I mean!)

Office to myself at the mo (until about 11 I think) so playing a bit of U2 - always a good move on a sunny day. And I've got stuff to crack on with which should see me to 5pm, if I'm lucky ....

Bit of a bittersweet day for me today: it's 6 years to the day that my dad toodled off to that great Public Bar in the sky (he never was one for the Saloon!). I miss him dreadfully and I know that him and Nic would have got on really well with the ocmmon ground of beer, football and ickle auld me!

If you're looking down on me dad, you'll know that my man is looking after me and we laugh often and loud. What more could your little girl ask for eh!?!? (please forgive him the fact that he supports Man Utd ....!)

  • Comment number 91.

On a brighter note, I found out this morning by the wonders of technology that I have passed Assignment 3 of my nutrition course. Next up .... minerals.

Have a grand day, whatever you're up to. I'll be back later.

    Hi everyone:

Lovely day in Glasgow ... you don't hear me say that very often, eh?!

mtd: hope you did get a teeny trophy last night.

Mary: aww, thank you. Can't beat a bit of Rick at 6.25 of a morning!

Bids: have missed you - I did wonder where you were. Nice to hear that your daughter had a wonderful birthday, and has been giving it large!

Most inconvenient for some bloggers not being able to post last night. Hope the trusty blog behaves itself today!

kks: well done on the round of applause from Jonny and Lynn!

Sezza: good luck with the shopping!

Baggy: good news about your new contract - that's a relief for you.

Cheryl: a sad day for you, I am sure. But, I can't deny that you do sound like a very happy (Easter) bunny!

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Hi Chrissie

Some days, you just wake up and feel "complete". Today is one of those days and I know I have an awful to smile about. Still not happy at work but that's just a wee blip that I can live with.

The sun is out, I have my health and a lot of love in my life.

    Yep - happy Easter Bunny!

Thanks Steve, Ali and everyone ..... the forecast is indeed meant to be good for Friday so I'd best some beers in the fridge - the men will be thirsty by the time they get the first van-load in!

    Morning all

What a happy place this is this morning, must be the sunshine (why do I always hear an oasis style twang to that).

Bit of a mixed weekend as everyone at home except me had the sickness bug at some point. Hopefully all on the mend now.

Also just trying to organize a surprise party for the OH's *0th birthday!

Tis unusual to have surprise 20th birthday parties . . .wouldn't you have been better off waiting a year and having a super dooper 21st instead? :-D

    Afternoon peeps
Quick lunchtime drop in - so as not to annoy those who might take away my blogging privilages (work as opposed to blog police!)

Enjoying the lovely weather although shame I am in the office and not outside.
Having my prawn sandwich and packet of Walkers ready salted - yummy.
Scone for pud or maybe afternoon tea-break - depends how long I can resist.

Congrats on the assignment Deev. Sorry you are missing your Dad, but concentrate on the happy memories, not the loss xx

Well done on the new contract, Baggy.

Enjoy the rest of your day, everyone.

Oh had a nice surprise today - got my travel folder out to bring passport into office to photocopy it and I found 100 euros left from last March's trip to Portugal.
That will make a nice start to the holiday spending for my 4 days in Lanzarote in May!

    ttfn, Crumpy xx
