What A Weekend - What A Week

Chris Evans | 11:37 UK time, Monday, 28 June 2010

We had more fun with the footy this morning than if we'd actually won. It's strange how these things pan out. Yes, we didn't play well, and no, we would never have won it. It really is time to face up to the reality of how much better and "quicker" teams like Argentina and Brazil are.

But anyway listen, we are building up towards two huge outside broadcasts on Thursday and Friday. It's Children In Need Drive and Dine week. I've got meetings all today and tomorrow about it. It's a bit like getting ready for your holidays, but taking 90 people with you!

If you want to check out Thursday's show with your eyes as well as your ears, the whole thing is being filmed and will be LIVE on the Radio 2 website so you can watch it all as it happens.

Moustache - or as they say in Russia - Mos-cow.

    I wish I could go!

Good luck Chris! And I know I said this on the last blog, but it still applies: come say hi to us marshals out on the road from the paddocks at the Festival. I'll be there Friday-Sunday. We always enjoy turning out - even at 5:30am - but would be good to see a few friendly faces.

Hope everybody is well. Speak later

    Greetings!

Am reallly pleased to hear that all who went to Leeds had a great time. JG - saw your pics on FB, a good time had by all!

Another lovely weekend in AS's world too - trip to the hairdressers - grey hair now disguised! Found a fab Food Emporium in a garden centre and could've spent a fortune, then saw GM on Sunday - had our first bbq together so ate plenty and drank more, happy days!

Gorgeous day in Cambridgshire again - long may it continue!

Hope everyone is well and having a good Monday :)

Marvellous, Christoff. Sounds like a right laff, am in a right mad jealous rage.

LOVED the Hokey-cokey anthem this morning, an' loved even more the effect it 'ad on poor grumpy@*se Johnny. See. There's not much in life that's not made better by laffin' at it. Get them endorphins flowin', that's what I say.

And how's this for a useless fact; which HAS to be true since I heard it from some eejit in Ireland. No European team has EVER won the World Cup outside a Europe. Ha.

Any road up. Am Big Soft Southern Jessie-bound tomorrow, just for the day and so on the dreaded train. So wish me luck, I'll 'ave the mace-spray an' the large newspaper at the ready for the lone psychopath on the train who will sniff me out an' assault me wit 'is ketchup, or want to tell me 'is life-story or save me from Burnin' In The Fires A Hell.

Morning Chris and the team - good work at cheering up the nation this morning. And good morning you lovely bloggers. I've been enjoying the pictures of your meet on Saturday and you all looked in fine fettle, I must say. Debs, it sounds like booze affects us in the same way: fine . . . fine . . . fine . . . drunk. And all within the space of a few minutes.

Well I had a Stevie Wonder sandwich of a weekend. Stevie in Hyde Park on Saturday night and Stevie on the telly from Glastonbury last night. Shame the bit in between was so disappointing. Still, onwards and upwards. Come on Murray!

    Love Barmy xx

Clodagh - aye and the more sozzled you become?

AS - what a lovely way to spend the weekend. Pleased to see you're still all loved up.

I hope everyone is enjoying this glorious weather - I am.

Really busy here today so I'll get off for now - hope to get back later but it'll depend what state I'm in - a friend has asked me to go for a run with her - should be larff.

    Afternoon all

Have to agree it was a cracking show this am, I had to sit in the carpark at work waiting for the Chris Waddle rant and it was worth the wait.

I too would like to say how much I enjoyed my (unfortunately brief) time at the Leeds meet on sat. Thank you and congrats tp PiP, Scoobs and AF for the arrangements and Daisy for the party bags.

Not sure what the rest of the punters thought of us putting on transfer tattoos and blowing bubbles across Millenium Sq, but we were enjoying it!

    Roll on the next meet!

    Cheers

    Greetings CLP & ALL...

    Bingo Star here...

CLP - yep shame about England being ripped apart by a way better 'TEAM'!!!!!
The blog a wrote on Saturday about England a think will win: I was just being positive in the face of hopelessness (reminds me of areas of me life). LOL!!!!!
But being realistic... i've noticed when England play... they are not a proper team... seems too many individuals & not enough natural chemistry between the players!!!!
I won't name names but an example... when one of our players get close to the goal... they seem to panic & kick the ball a fast as they can in the hope of scoring... they don't seem to assess the siutation, or maybe they want the glory... but the result is kicking it 3 metres over th etop of the goal... a could probably do that with me eyes closed!!!!!
In fact with me eyes closed a might get lucky & have a better chance of getting it into the net!!!!

Now I noticed an exactly the same situation when Japan were playing!!!!
The striker runs up closing on the goal... closing... closing... the goal keeper comes out... a defender joins the keeper... now this is when England players try & steal the glory & just kick & hope & usually result in missing/ wasting the chance of a goal!!!!
But what does the Japanese player do.... just before he meets with the keeper & the defender... he passes to his fellow striker on his right.... and the second striker simply powers it into the net around the side of the keeper & defender!!!!!!

    That's called 'TEAM' work!!!!!!

    England FC.... look 'n learn!!!!!!!!

PS The Hyde Park Macca gig was mega last night.... just me feet hurt badly!!!!!!!

    Bye!

PPS CLP - Hope the Children In Need Drive & Dine doings all go most nice!!!!!!!!

Am off ter see the nearest cherropodiyst!!!!!

  • Comment number 14.

Andy_T - we enjoyed ourselves and made lots of others smile too! Spreading the blog love over Millenium Square - nowt wrong wi' that!

Bubbles were MC's choice, I merely padded the idea a little!! Mr MC did a cracking job of separating the Tat's though, with very sharp scissors, but they were in safer hands than mine! Hahaha

Love Daisy - who is still a child at heart! xxxx

  • Comment number 15.

I loved the fact I had no idea what Andy_Toverson meant until some kind soul explained it to me on Saturday afternoon...... the sun was a little brighter after that with my massive lightbulb moment..... blonde by hair colour, blonde by nature ;^)

So to clarify my post from this morning - car keys locked in car, on front seat, in full view of passing thief's, house alarm unarmed as front door keys on same ring as car keys - one very stressed and unhappy Daisy, a mile from school with her 2 little men and 10 mins to get there, due to us all oversleeping.

I can tell you all now as the car is now at work with me (thanks to Mr Daisy coming home from work in his lunch hour, setting the house alarm and then bringing the car to my work).

Told you all, blonde by hair colour, blonde by nature! Oops....

Love Daisy (who went red as a pillarbox when Mr Daisy arrived with the car at work because of her stupidity - he will give me soooooo much stick for the next week because of this!)... must have an early night tonight to make sure I don't oversleep again tomorrow! Hahaha! xx

Afternoon all, what a gawjus day here in the sunny Borders. Firstly have to say a HUGE thanks to Clodagh for her little input on Friday. I have just managed to stop laffin. I think I should change my name by Deed Poll to Norma Snockers - only five feet nothing both in height and chest! Clodagh if you ever want to spend a weekend up here in Bonny Scotland you are more than welcome. I have had a shocking few weeks and you have just rejuvinated my batteries so thank you very much. Your banter is just superb. I even have a T Shirt with an arrow pointing to my FACE - cos all those lechy folk are always too busy looking down my cleavage.

Got the littLe man off today - not only did he not get much sleep but neither did I - hey ho that's what being a mum is.

Time for some zzzzzzzz me thinks

Whoop Whoop to the CiN Drive and Dine, gosh that's come around very quickly. I hope everyone involved has a fantastic time.

OK I have a confession to make - I had no idea about Andy_Toverson until you just pointed it out now Daisy and I still don't get Malcolm_Powder! I've said it out loud three times in a row, I've tried to say it different ways but I just don't get it :( Am I being a bit dense? Feel free to say "yes"!

  • Comment number 19.

Hi Malc (if I may be so bold?!), no-one from the show comes to the meet ups. A lot of the regular bloggers were invited to the O2 show CLP did just before Christmas.
Not been on here last week so missed your arrival, but if you are on FB there is a group called CLP Bloggers and through that meets are organised so everyone can get together. On Saturday there were around 20 of us that came and went throughout the day.
I have only been to two meets but there is always fun and laughter to be had.

As you know AliB, I am not the brightest, but I just thought Malcolm Powder, Talcum Powder??? Hence me calling him (?) Malc / Talc?

  • Comment number 22.

Thanks for clarifying Daisy. I've been posting on the Mayo-meister's page reasonably regularly since he started, and finally feeling like I can almost keep up with things in here as well.

#18 Ali - my name goes back to The Togmeister's reign. I did send a few things in, and still contribute sometimes under this name to various shows. Uncle Zen Bruce wouldn't read my full name when I sent an e-mail in on Friday - he just said 'let's just say he's a TOG'. Think of something you might apply to a baby after a bath...?

Bingo glad you had a good time at Hyde Park, wish I was going Wednesday to see Kings of Leon!

Omb/Debs/Clodagh - definitely the sun that got to you and not the alcohol :)

Getting towards the end of the season, and we have to try and keep our position in League 1 (which, unlike in football, is actually the top league).

Monday night = quiz night for the house of dipper. We are 'away' this week so somebody has to drive us the oooooh 2/3 miles down the road to a nearby hostelry where we are meeting the B team from said hostelry from where we beat the A team last week. Really they are only A and B because the A team started first and the B team moved from another pub.....

We are currently running 3rd in the Northern Division of the Summer Quiz League (we run more on a league basis during the Winter where we are in the Premiership).

    Yep - nearly home o'clock.

I must admit it took me a while to get Andy's name, although I think it kind of depends on your accent - it makes more sense in a Northern accent!

Daisy - Oops, but glad you got sorted out in the end!

I've got Mr JG's house keys and their yard keys in my handbag - he lent them to me in case he was out when I got back from Leeds! Luckily, he took the spare house keys from his car keyring, but has had to get other engineers to drive over an let him into the yard, for which he wasn't popular!

Anyhow, I'm about to attempt to get home, there's a big fire near here on Trafford park, and the M60 is also closed due to a lorry fire - should be fun!

I am glad I have lots of blog buddies!

Love Daisy xx Who has an awful lot to be glad of! xx

    Baggy,

I don't want to burst your Graze Box bubble, but I cancelled mine (even though I loved getting them) purely because they were very high in Weight Watchers points, some of them being as much as 5 points!!! Just a thought as to why you might have put on half a stone since Christmas.

Perhaps not so healthy after all!

Ali - thanks for the headsup

I actually use them becuase of the nuts - being a veggie I need the protein, but I do know that they are calorific and I make amends in other areas!

to be honest - the half stone is more alcoholic/ ice cream/ cake based and lack of excercise!

    Hi All

Sorry not going to be able to post much in today - busy at work (not for much longer though...) Also, keeping up appearances next door in SM's blog. Can't really keep up with both with the amount I've got on. Also, can't hear radio today. Booooooooo

Hope everybody's keeping well (and I apologise whole-heartedly for delaying GB in keeping up with the blog. Sorry!)

    Afternoon Everyone,

Whooppee - it's trough time. I've been busy again today at work - it's marvellous, the time is whizzing by. Having said that it does interfere with blog activity.

Don't worry Malcolm, I was done in with the heat last night and it was just an excuse for not having much to say really. You'll be missed today - hope you have a deasant play yourself.

Landon - Warmest welcome to you. You are funny!

    Here is my 'glad' list:-

    1. Glad to be alive
    2. Glad to have a job (could just be doing with being a bit busier)
    3. Glad to have the GBs - they drive me crazy but keep me sane, all at the same time.
    4. Last but not least, glad Baggy introduced this game - it's lovely - just like counting your blessings. Thank you Baggy. Hope you're having a better time this week.
