Super Saturday - Super Food.

Chris Evans | 12:55 UK time, Thursday, 18 March 2010

We're looking into making Moira's Munch Bunch Book happen for Children In Need - probably gonna call it Breakfast & Beyond!

Talking of food...

Just received the menu for Saturday's rugby do at our pub.

Wales vs Italy - Welsh Rarebit & Oxtail Ragu Gnocci

Scotland vs Ireland - Haggis and Tatties & Irish Beef and Guinness Pie with puff pastry.

England vs France - Fish and Chips & Bouef Bourgignon.

Better stop eating now then.

I love food. . .

    Afternoon Chris,

    I love food too!

The England V France meal sounds good to me and I tend to agree with Mr Carling, I think we might just do it.

Happy thirsty Thursday to you and yours.

    Afternoon...

Not blogged for a few days - not been lurking or sulking just more important stuff to take care of. (Ok, so you hadn't even noticed my absence...lol...:O)
Chris - You'd be struggling without food, so you better had like it!

    Chris

That sounds like a cracking day of both food and rugby.

AliB - If we do it, then its not on the basis of what's happened in the last 6 weeks, and I think the only way is by getting to the French team's food a la SA v NZ (allegedly)

    Andy,

I agree with you on #3. Apart from the Welsh match, we've not played well at all - drawing with the Scots I ask you!! But I think they will pull themselves together for this one and we have to do it for the Irish.

    Hi CLP,

All of the food sounds good to me, I could just pretend to watch the rugby.

Off tomorrow, Mum and Dad booked to go to Rothesay, Isle of Bute for 2 nights DB&B, so David and I booked also and will surprise them, so taken tomorrow off too so that I can ride Ash and give the dog a good walk before my friend/neighbour looks after things for us for the weekend, looking forward to it very much, also looking forward to Sunday when Smartie can get his lampshade off his head!

Everyone else have a great weekend.

    Luv

    Gail.

    Hello Everybody Peeps,

I love my food too and at the risk of being predictable (wee Scottish person that I am), I'm going with the Scotland / Ireland offerings. Clodagh, I'll take my chances on requesting the extra puff pastry - it's my fave.

Hi Nic, I had missed you - just thought Cheryl was keeping you busy (you know with house type chores). Any news on the job front?

Hoping to chuck eldest child off computer this evening so's I can lurk / contribute to this lovely blog effort. I don't think it's boring at all. As MTD said yesterday we're just getting to know a little bit more about our fellow bloggers.

    Cheerio for now, GailyB

As much as I'd like to deprive the French of the grand slam and championship, even if England win, there's a fifty point score differnce for the Irish to overcome, as much as the Scot's are poor it won't happen ;(

  • Comment number 13.

Sorry to all my Scottish friends, it was meant in jest - honest ;)

Andy, Sorry I hadn't done the maths - oh well may be next year.

#12 - don't think I'll come back 'til after the rugby has finished.

    Cheery bye. :(

Ps - UC - have you finished with the used tissue yet? I think I'm gonna need it!

Don't worry about the marmalade sandwiches - I'll survive.

  • Comment number 15.

Ok enough already!!! I have and always will support England even though I speak with a Scottish accent and live in Glasgow! Yes really!! Unless they are playing Scotland then I struggle! AliB - I am disappointed! I had you up on a much higher pedestal!! :) So if you wish to retract your last comments re England drawing with the Scots then I will put you back up there! After all even some English commentators and indeed some on this blog agreed Scotland were in fact better and deserved to win!!!!!
And Andy - we may not have won a match yet, but doubtless you have actually watched any of the games they played bar one, in which case we are not poor. We may have lost our mojo toward the end of a few matches, but in actual fact we have played far better than we have in recent years when we have actually won games. So we will take the Wooden Spoon with our heads held high.

    Allez les Bleus

#15 Can't comment on all of what you said, Dreamer, as I haven't managed to watch all the games and my knowledge of rugby is fairly limited but from what I have seen and from what I understand, I agree, we can take the Wooden Spoon with our heads held high and in a truly sporting manner.

Rips: what a shame you can't make the Meet next Saturday, but I would imagine that the CMM would not be best pleased! Can't you persuade her and your lovely children that a trip to Glasgow would be just what the doctor ordered?!

AS/Ali: I have to say, I think Sandra would be well shot of him. He looks lke he last had a shower about 2 years ago! Really, I know that one shouldn't have sympathy for celebrities, because they know what goes with the territory, but I do feel for Sandra Bullock, she just seems so nice!

    Blimey that's some banquet.

As I can't be in the same building as a plate of offal, I'd have to go for England V France. I don't suppose it makes much difference to me as I don't know one end of rugby ball from the other. Let me know when India's playing Thailand though - that would be a nice meal.

Hope everyone's ok. I'm dead busy festivalising etc just now, plus I've just been "invited" to run the sport relief mile tomorrow dressed as a piece of fruit.

Boleynteen2 is on her second week of "work experience". Last week she was shelf stacking in a national chemist shop ie B***s. She learned that... she'd better get down to some work soon because she doesn't want to stack shelves when she grows up. Result. And apologies to any shelf stackers out there, but she's just not cut out for it. Now she's at a Nursery, where she has learned that.. some children are not as cute as others. As she only really likes the cute ones, then I guess this is another career path she should not be encouraged to follow.

And Boleynman has a big interview tomoz, he is desperate for a new challenge and a new school - he was just pipped at the post this time last year and will be well and truly gutted if he doesn't get it.

I'd like to say hello to all the more recent bloggers that I've never really spoken to; also to the old faithfuls and especially to the returners. I don't really fit into any of those categories as I've never quite been "away"(agree Rips me old mate, how DO you leave a blog) but then I'm not often "here" either. But Baggy and Ginge - if you're out there, hello. For the record I think Gingembre's comments in particular have been somewhat exaggerated and a tad over-reacted to. There you go, I had to throw in at least one tiny element of controversy.

Off for my last job of the day - KS1 after school club - time for Dr Knickerbocker I think.

Hi boleyngirl: really nice to see you. I know just what you mean about the work experience thing - when my daughter worked for a week in a surveyor's office (thinking this was her future) I did say to her "you will hate it". And indeed she did. (Incidentally, I have worked in surveyors' offices since I was 17!). She is now at college/working in a nursery and the rules are truly mind-blowing. One mistake, one error in working with children and the chances of getting ANY job will be doubtful.

Good luck to Mr BG: hope it goes well for him.

Thanks to all for the welcome back messages, and those that haven't - none taken :-)

I have been on holiday for the past 12 days and its been most excellent, and still 1 day to go. We spent the first week in centre parcs, in the lake district and we were so very lucky with the weather. However, nobody told us the Lake District itself would be closed.

We spent the final evening having a 3 hour session 'twilight spa' thingy. A first for both of us, and a last for one of us. Don't know why, but it just wasn't for me. Which is odd cus I do enjoy a good steamy session.

Anyhoo, Boleyngirl, you have reminded me of my shameful work experience. I was given the post of classroom assistant - no idea why, I wanted to be a stage hand at the local theatre or work in a vets/animal shelter or in a lab. Anything that didn't involve kids to be honest. So, I start my experience and it appeared the kids liked me and enjoyed my tales of senior school (as it was known back then!) and the high jinks that went with the environment. However, I got sacked. My year head phoned and asked how was I getting on.' Brilliant, she works hard, is enthusiastic and has lots of ideas and creativity. But we don't want her back.'

I later found out that some parents had complained about one of my stories, involving a door handle and a certain type of readily available contraception.

St Thomas Moore - Roman Catholic School.

    Oops....

Mais bien sur ma cherie. Garlic spuds.

Stick some nice fat garlic cloves on a tray with a drizzle of olive oil, place said spuds, scored round the middle, on the same tray and roast/bake till soft and brown. Split the potatoes, scoop out the middles, chop the roasted garlic and mix it all up together with salt&pepper and butter, then pile it all back in, and bake again in a hot oven till all crispy an' aerodynamic.

Delish. An' if you don't like potato skins, allow to cool, remove a spoon-shape on one side, place over the ears an' use 'em for playin' Prince Charles. Or beneath the hairnet an' rollers if you use one a them old-fashioned hairdryers.

    Marvellous.

Re post #55, isn't that a bit of a shaggy dog story?

The version I'm familar with is that one time Johnny Craddock introduced their TV show with the line -

"Later we shall be showing you how to make doughnuts that look just like Fanny's".

Cut to picture of a smiling Mrs C holding a tray of said snacks.

Yay, I've managed to wrestle the pc away from the elder son for a wee while. I've taken myself out of the way whilst younger son is making a poster about viking weaponry for his homework which was given out at least 2 months ago to be handed in last Friday and which was done last minute last Thursday only to be handed back by a very brave teacher to be done again and is due in tomorrow, nothing having been done in the meantime! Aarrgghh!!

#29 - Chrissie, it's a long time since I've heard of Jock Tamson's bairns. There was a man in the village where I grew up whose name was Jock Thomson and I thought we were all his kids - very confusing for a wee lassie.

#32 - Nic, that very thing happened to me at a job interview last year - I couldn't even remember who the interview was with - I was just so unprepared - my answers were bordering on incoherent - I just wanted the ground to open and swallow me up. When the chap rang back with feedback he asked if I wanted to know where I'd gone wrong. I know I didn't come over as the brightest at the interview but pulease, I knew exactly where i'd gone wrong. Anyhoo, for the next interview, I practised and swatted and had a fantastic interview but still didn't get the job - I missed out by one point - the other person had experience of working with the organisation. I haven't had another interview since :(

#41 - MW'a - let me know when Thailand and India are playing rugby, I fancy that menu too. mmm yum!

    #46 - UC - as always LOL!

#48 - MSC - good result - although a shame for your bestest bud.

    #55 & #77 - Rips & Barney - you are awful, but I like you!

Good news from our corner of Lincolnshire - the offending homework is now complete. Not sure it's what the teacher wants exactly but it's his own take on what a poster should look like!

  • Comment number 75.

Oh no, have I killed the blog with boredom?

  • Comment number 76.

Oh no, I fear I have.

Is there anyone out there??? Anyone??? Hellllooooo???

    Oh dear, I think I must've! :(

  • Comment number 77.

No, Gaily, I was just eating my tea, t'was scrummy too, even if I say so myself!

Rips, you're not going mad, I remember that poster as well!!

    Phew! That's a relief.

Glad you enjoyed your tea Jakey.

I have to go to sort out some toast and a drink for the younger gorgeous boy. Hope to get back later, providing elder boy keeps his hands off the pc.

Saw a sign outside a wee local independent computer repair shop this afternoon advertising 2nd hand laptops for £100 so I might just treat myself then I can keep on blogging.

    Cheery bye for now.

Before I go and just in case I miss you Cheryl, I hope you had a great first day.

Just one question to the person who asked for my post to be moderated.

Why me and not the post to which it referred?

I doubt that I will get an answer as people who hide behind the moderators tend not to say things to people's faces.

    Evenink lovelies!

Just had a quick catch-up - you're all bonkers and that is why I luvs y'all!

And thank youo so so much for all the good wishes for today, both on here, Twitter and FaceAche. So .....

It went really well! There's tons to learn, I'm PA'ing for an MD and his PA (she who is training me) leaves tomorrow lunchtime - YIKES!!!! My brain has had the most intense workout its had for weeks but I feel allive again, and know I will sleep well tonight!

I also had a call from another agency today - interview at another company on 29th March, so an iron in the fire if this one doesn't come to fruition.

Blogging and FB is a deffo no-no from work. The first thing I was told this morning was "IT see everything so be careful" !! We only get half an hour for lunch anyway so not too bad.

Right, sorry to be brief but I am cream-crackered!! Pie and chips for tea!

    Hi Cheryl,

Glad you have got the first day over and you have enjoyed yourself. After all the waiting , i bet it feels good to be back at work. I took some time out a few years ago, and promised myself i would stay off until i had seen Wimbledon. I was sooo bored that when i got the call with an offer , i jumped at it, and it was the day Wimbledon started ! Hope Nic gets on ok next week too.

JG, I saw the Dragon boats on NW tonight, it made the Keys look like Miami !

#84 JG - My sis is just back from Miami - the weather there has been rubbish. Cold and wet! :( They didn't mind too much as she and hubby were helping sister-in-law house hunt.

Cheryl - glad you had a good day. Like the fact it's pie and chips for tea tonight - that'll bring Nic back to the real world with a thump, bless him ;)

It wasn't me Barney. I haven't seen anything on here that would require moderating.

Have just had a text from my boss about some tickets to see Man U v Spurs....all the Corp Hosp etc...

Had to turn it down as the seats are "in the new Quadrant" i.e. in the Gods...too scary for me!!

It's on a Sunday so will be on the TV anyway, well, probably?

Plus, it's the day aftr we get back from the lakes, and Mr JG thinks I'll be too busy with the washing! Get him, that's his job!

For goodness sake - I haven't been on the blog since the new one!!! I love food too - Chris most stuff - but it tends to stick to the bits I don't want it to stick to. Despite being over 2 stone less than this time last year I still look like humpty dumpty - all tubs round the middle. Guess I had better stick to the Ragu.

Off to catch up but just spotted the last couple. Bet you are shattered tonight Deev. Early night for you.

What did you say Barney - give me a clue....

    JG - I'm watching M/chef too.

JG - Mr JG sounds like a right cheeky monkey. Shame about the tix. Hopefully there'll be another time.

A girl at work won tix at a work related 'do' for the England France game this week. She was well chuffed. Her two colleagues, keen rugby players themselves, were gutted.

    Evening each

I love food too Chris, which means I'll be buying that recipe book.

Fiddlers elbow tonight (in & oot) just to say hallo. Talking of fiddlers, I won't be around tomorrow or Saturday - off to a fiddling weekend in Perthshire. Be back Sunday. Have a good weekend everyone.

    xx

  • Comment number 90.

Lucky you Annie - sounds like an amazing weekend. Is it a Fiddlers' Rally type thing you're going to? Don't hear much of that type of music on CLP's show - might have to suggest a wee slot for him - UC we'll need a title?

  • Comment number 91.

It's Niel Gow weekend Gaily. I don't mind Scottish fiddlers but ideally I would have bought tickets for a rock concert. Friend Kirstie (she of drunken Broxiebabe fame) is a fan so we're making a weekend of it. I guess there'll be other fiddlers there too (I want to laugh everyone I type fiddlers - wonder who'll be the first to make a rude comment?) so it'll be something like a rally.

  • Comment number 92.

Bless you Annie - I thought it looked a bit funny too when I was typing it. I wonder who will brave the mods? Sounds like a fun weekend.

Boring info coming up, look away unless you're a Gran. Parents evening tonight and both gorgeous little boys were described by their teachers as Brilliant. Just as well really or I'd have been down there to poke their eyes out.

Just caught up zapping through. Agree with Deevs - you lot are bonkers - love you too!! I think Scoobs will need an early night too - blimey how many interviews?!!

Late night eating again - himself only just on way back from hospital. It would be Cheltenham they took FIL to !! races just turning out! Indigestion here I come!

Enjoy your week-end Annie - see you next week !! Yay - can't wait..

Wow - that's fab Annie - can't ask for better than that. I'm not a Gran (not yet anyway) but appreciate your pride.

    Hi everyone.

Having a terrible day, youngest daughter had to go to hospital this afternoon after seeing midwife, still there being monitored at the moment.

Might read some of today's posts now.
