Rain can be a pain, but at least we're alive to see it again.

Chris Evans | 14:27 UK time, Monday, 25 January 2010

You see, that's the thing isn't it ? You'd kill for rain over death any day, and when put like that, almost everything can be a bonus if you think about it.

Down in my garage as I correspond, I have just finished writing for the day. My new thing is to write as much as I can until my laptop dies after a full charge - normally about three hours.

I love writing, I don't know why - I just do. I think it's what I'm best at. I love the twists and turns of words and pace. I love the fact that the more you do, the better you get. I love reading it back and being surprised by the sentences as they skip along, racing to keep apace with the story.

I am - of course - very lucky to have a job in the morning that allows me to do this of an afternoon. It doesn't half hurt my back though. Need to get that sorted - along with how to 'save document to desk top' - something I have yet to master - and something that leaves me in constant fear that what I have written will simply slip off quietly one day, never to return...

I can fly a helicopter and operate a radio studio, but I can't seem to save a few pages of text by clicking the right two keys on my qwerty. It's beautifully easy to type qwerty by the way. Have you noticed all those keys are next to each other ?

    Happy Monday!

I love writing too, and a good auld bit of wordery play - can't be beaten. One day, my ambition is to get something published, other than the mundane drivel I leave you with on here!

Great show this morning - loving the energy and team spirit.

Hi Chris: yes, it is quite fascinating how clever Mr Qwerty is! I do love your writing, Chris - the book was terrific and I can't wait for book No.2. But I have to say I think what you do best is interacting with people. You make it sound so easy, you make it look so easy, but it's really quite difficult, I do believe!

Anyway, I'm always chatting you up, so I'll stop now!

Word of advice, don't under-estimate the damage you can do to your back by sitting typing too long, if you don't have the right chair. Attend to that ASAP.

    Afternoon Christoff

Loved the show as usual, the Beatles start was great, and the ickle people and you getting to chat to David Lamb, how appropriate is his name working on CDWM? Now can it get any better? Well, yes actually, you can stop all this nonsense talking about (insert the C word here) in January, otherwise I will come round to yours and personally give you a slap with a wet kipper, probably with Beez in tow! By all means look forward, but let it be to Spring, my favourite time of the year.

Just keep saving the document periodically and it should be safe.

Happy belated birthday wishes to MW, a! Congrats to your brother.

Back again CLP & ALL Bloggies........

    Bingo Star ere......

CLP - A most nice blog terdee!!!!!!
A try ter look at the positives of rain too..... think sometimes it can be very cosy inside somewhere when it's raining.... and INDEED if yer out somewhere in the countryside it be very calming the gentle pitter patter of rain on the beautiful landscape!!!!!!
Many a teem ave been somewhere beautiful, aving a dee out in the countryside or in Scotland.... in fact a remember a moment a will never forget!!!!
A went ter see the Jacobite Tower and the end of a loch in the 'ighlands of Scotland!!!!
On the Fort William ter Mallaig road... one of the most beautiful places in Europe!!!!!
And the famous curving railway viaduct at the end on the Fort William ter Mallaig railway line... VOTED the most beautiful railway journey in the whole of europe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Anyone who's noot done this drive/ rail journey.... YERV GOTTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AM TELLIN' TER DO IT THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!)
It's the same loch they used ter film the 'arry Potter films & the 'ogwartt's Exprees on the viaduct... THAT'S 'ow beautiful it iz up there.... they used it az the fantasy world location for 'arry Potter!!!!!!!
Forgotted the name of the loch though!!!!! Sure fellow scot blog dudes will be able ter tell all!!!!
Drove up there in me Rover Vitesse with me ex.... it waz summer but one of those 'orredous persistent rainy dees.... low cloud & dull!!!!!
In fact the mountain tops yer couldn't see for the low cloud!!!!
We goot outta the car with a BIG golf umbrella & walked ter the side of the loch... onter the slate on the banks!!!!!&
Nearby the iz a small chapel & the waz some kind of filming going on - a tv crew filming a drama but noot 'arry Potter - show's must be a place of choice for tv stuff!!!!!
Any way we were standing there & yer could 'ear a silence az yer so away from any towns... silence but for the pitter patter of the rain!!!!!
And the rain seemed ter be bringing out the greenery all arooound & yer could smell the freshness!!!!!!!
A sort of fresh..... Scottish soily frsh nature sort of smell!!!!!!!!!! 'ard ter describe!!!!
And despite the annoyance of choosing such a rainy dee ter visit there.... it's sort of stayed in me mind more so for the experience in the rain!!!!!!

A remember too going on the steam train from Fort William ter Mallaig & sticking me 'ead out of the window az we came inter a station on a curve.... the train leaning slightly due ter the curve & aloada DAMN water running off the roof & soaking me 'ead!!!!!!!
Noot a bad thing!!!!!! A thing a will alaways remember for the rain making it more beautiful.... fresher!!!!!!!

Talkin' of which.... ave been watching the BRILLIANT tv programme by Micheal Portillo on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ2 all about rail travel arooound the British Isles!!!!!!!
It's on again every neet this week at 6.30pm on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ2 - A STRONGLY recommend it ter all ter watch... ter record it if yer can't see it live - brilliant journey arooound our beautiful country!!!!!!!
(PS It's noot about trains.... more about seeing the country by train!!!!!)
Makes me even more annoyed a didn't stop The Portillo last year when a walked past 'im in London - didn't realise 'e always wanted ter be a train driver too & 'as a love of railways!!!!! (some might remember a wrote on the blog a passed 'im last year - one of the few good guys of British politics!!!!!!!)

    Bye!!!!!!!

PS A will save me traffic warden story ter termozza!!!!!!

Chris - qwerty - you daft sod.

It's funny this writing thing. My desert island book is An Evil Cradling by Brian Keenan (such brilliant and beautiful writing) but I read an interview with him when he said how much he hates the process of writing - not just that book but subsequent ones as well. He said he'd rather do a day of hard manual labour than write for an hour.

Anyway, can you lovely lot please stop playing word games. I want to play but I have to work. Not fair.

    Afternoon Christoff,

@ 9 - I was always told that 'typewriter' was the longest word that you could write, just using the top line of letters! Ok, same number as proprietor, but more appropriate, no?!?

    Hi Christoph

Ooh, please take care of your back. I slipped a disc last April and was flat out for almost four weeks - it was horrible.

So, please make sure that you sit right back in your chair while you're typing and don't be tempted to lean forward, otherwise it will really hurt your lower back! Pull your chair in as close to your desk as possible too and try and avoid a chair with arms as that stops you from getting close enough to the desk.

Try pressing Ctrl + S and you should then be asked where you want to save the document to - choose the Desktop option and hopefully it'll be 'simples' in future!

    Sorry - lecture over!

Loving the new show by the way. I arrive at work with a smile on my face ...... this confuses my colleagues but they're too polite to ask me what I've been up to, tee hee!!

    Jillygoat / Jollygit xx

  • Comment number 44.

A very philosophical start CLP. Can't help but agree.

As far as writing goes, I am well past my creative days in that direction (my best years were between 10 and 15). These days I leave the eloquence to others and enjoy reading instead.

I know who I would prefer to see writing on here and he certainly does not come from Sweden. I can't work out MMM but I still think he is a reincarnation of an old adversary of the blog. The truth will out eventually.

Not a great deal csn. When I was lurking there were 2 bloggers who made personal attacks on other bloggers and were generally not nice people. Both of them 'resigned' from the blog and gave all their aliases (there had been a few because they had been previously blocked).

I may be wrong and this is a new antagonist but it could be either of them.

    Evening each

Chris, you need one of those sitty-on stools with knee support for your bad back.

Not been around much lately - have been in my bed with horrible cold. Off now to read posts.

No 1 member of the Bingo fan club here. First to 'ug anyway!!!

Was in the process of zapping through the end of last blog and beginning of this and work got in the way this afternoon!! tut tut

AliB - makes my blood boil when I hear about stuff like that - it really does. They need smacking round the head with that fire extinguisher. Have a good contact if any of the damaged glass was of the stained variety. Let me know on fb if help needed there.

Anyone heard of the Monmouthshire Cert of Education? Going way back here - but got distinction in art!! (and English and needlework) I can see now where my career went wrong!!!

See we are still awaiting completion of a couple of stories from folk....

CSN dog never done that before - the odd tissue or envelope but never the basket tipped over and contents spread everywhere! Must have been bored.

Back in a bit - off to check me bolognaise sauce (and pour a glass of red of course).

Just getting rid of that cold myself. Roll on Summer eh?

Totally knackered tonight, I had a very productive day at work which feels good. Meeting targets and objectives...hey get me!

    I love my job.

How do you know though, if you still love someone? How can you tell the difference between 'love' and 'like'?

    Any clues?

Missed the MMM quote.. Beez..fb me too pls and fill me in!

Annie..so sorry you are feeling poorly.. big hug to feel better soon.. and of course that goes to other poorly peeps too.. xxx

Debbie..imho, if you cant wait to get home to them at night or if you think about them during the day or if you cant imagine them not being in your life then i think thats love. Although it expresses itself in different ways for different people. Having been thro a love/like break up i can only give my opinion tho. Email me on fb if you want a chat sometime.. x

Evening everyone else.. off to eat bangers, mash, asparagus and onion gravy (well when ive cooked it that is!) and watch Shaun..

    take care everyone..

Funny you should say that, mtd. week before i started blogging, someone was getting very offensive and left the blog. Even if you disagree with people on the blog, why would you get that nasty. Maybe MMM got a screw loose in his brain. He only blogs once a week, at about the same time of night. I reply to him, but he never answers me. maybe thats because i'm a new blogger and he doesn't know me.

    Evening Each,

Glad you are enjoying the writing Chris, keep at it and you'll be a bestseller with book number two before you know it. I for one can't wait to purchase it.

Thanks for all the kind words about the break in at church. Spent most of the afternoon sorting things out, fortunately the window broken wasn't of the stained glass variety, just a plain old loo window! But thanks for the offer Beez xx

Debbie, I am sure there are more qualified than me to answer your question, good luck.

I turned the first cog in my wheel of change today! Spoke to one of my bosses about my thoughts and he was very supportive. He is off on sabbatical at the end of the year, so my "little project" will hopefully coincide with that. Just got two other bosses to get behind me now.

Just had a lovely tea, going to get an early bath, then a chat with my bestest friend and then Hustle.

    Have a good evening everyone

    AliB

Thanks Scoobs, feeling much better, if only Beez would take her cough back I'd be fine.

Debbie: Think you know the answer to that one if you have to ask!!

You really should get your facts right before you insult people.

I think you know a little more about the situation than you are letting on.

Barney, I wasn't aware of insulting anybody. I am sorry if you took it that way.

I know that you have had several aliases, however I wasn't referring to you.
