There is no end to the possibilities this life of ours continues to surprise us with.

Chris Evans | 10:25 UK time, Monday, 21 December 2009

I had one of the best days ever yesterday.

Tash and I along with some other dudes, were invited to the home of The Togmeister for Sunday lunch and a bit more closure.

I've been to Terry's house once before and here's the thing about it. You know when sometimes, you form an idea of what somewhere is going to be like and you're always wrong - well Terry's house is exactly how I imagined it to be. I mean exactly. Grand and perfect and proud and warm. Not unlike the man himself.

The food cooked up by the chef from Terry's daughter's pub was first class, like really first class, with a different wine matched to each course and lots of it. We started eating at One and were still munching at well gone Four.

There were more speeches kicked off with some beautiful words from Mark - one of Sir Tel's offspring - there were more tears, even the great man himself couldn't hold it together this time, but the most important thing is that there was lots and lots of love and laughter. I heard some amazing stories from Jo Gurnett, Terry's agent and former manager of Kenny Everett !

Thanks Terry and thanks to your family for welcoming us into the privacy of your home on such a special occasion.

You really do have a wonderful life. . .

X.

    Hi Chris,

Sounds like a perfect way to spend your day.

I wont be able to blog anymore as my circumstances have changed in work and I am being watched now.

I just wanted to say to you Chris that I will enjoy listening to your last week of drivetime and am looking forward to the breakfast show and to wish you and your family a very happy christmas and new year.

Also want to wish the bloggers a great christmas and prosperous 2010.

Sounds like a fantastic way to spend a Sunday afternoon. We spent ours trawling round Asda doing the first round of the Christmas food hunt (fortunately I get to skip round 2 due to have to come into the office for `work'....). Judging by the contents of the trolleys being pushed around, there's going to be an awful lot of people getting crates of Carling for Christmas this year.....

    Meant "mean" and not "me"!

  • Comment number 11.

    MTD,

You're not alone on the thickness. I too have been wondering but think it possibly may be a private joke.

Chris, sounds like a wonderful day was had by all. I, on the other hand, went to a pub last night to fulfil a mystery shop assignment. We arrived to police, kids in handcuffs, crowds gathered outside all shouting and swearing, scuffles and shovings. Inside was not much better, with a very strong and pungent smell of stale toilet, furniture covers ripped and chairs strewn across the floor. We were supposed to eat there, but decided against it. Not really sure what to put on the report....

Still, moved on to a local and had a very nice dinner in pleasant surroundings where I didn't feel the need to keep my hand on my mace spray. I think I shall no onger do mystery shopping. Its far too scary!

    MW, a!

PS - And know you do what they told ya.

    Success!
Just back from the old Merry Hill Centre, with the dolls house family we'd promised my niece. Her gandparents have got the dolls house, but the inhabitants have been out of stock everywhere (I had been planning to tell her that they'd gone away for Christmas, but with all the airports shut and the Eurostar on the blink, she was bound to ask questions!). Fortunately the Early Learning Centre have had a delivery and all is right with the world.

    Except for one thing.

I am, as the saying goes, `folically challenged' and as such have a slighty frozen bonce at the moment. Yes I know a hat would been a good idea, but I don't think they particularly suit me. The possiblity of resembling an unstruck match as a result never crossed my mind...

Sounds like a nice homely day at Wogan Towers!

I wonder if they all sat down to watch Terry and Chris on Millionaire last night!!!!

I didn't realise it was going to be on because I had never heard Tel or Chris mention it!!! I saw a bit about it here:

What a shame for them and I bet they were gutted at winning only £1,000 after getting an Obama question wrong because Chris thought it was a waste of phoning a friend yet they still ended up with three lives in tact!!!

Why didn't Chris Tarramt let them start again to try and win more?;o)) The Nolans got £50,000 so well done to them!

  • Comment number 50.

Hi Sylvia. It was torture to watch as they both looked so crestfallen and I bet they were distraught afterwards; they both take their charities so seriously, it was SUCH a shame.

But you know something. As disappointed as I was for them, it taught me one thing.

If two razor-sharp, wise and courageous chaps can get it wrong sometimes, there's hope for us all. After dithering slightly at the first couple of questions, I can honestly say I've never witnessed our Christoffe so uneasy. He seemed to actually have his confidence dented, and when this happens your brain just switches off. Truthfully, I looked at him and saw myself whenever I feel in a risky situation which requires I don't make a fool of myself; that's exactly when I WILL drop a huge clanger. It's painful and frustrating, and I, myself, will then spend days and weeks berating myself.

The good news is that these are two men who won't, they're smarter than that.

And besides. Anyone remember Jonathan Ross and his missus taking nowt home? Again, astonishing. Two superbly bright people, bombed it. But it's yesterday's news. Well, till some numpty reminds everyone, that is....

Bless 'em all. They're all braver men than me, that's for sure.

Chris, that sounds like a truely magical lunch, I'm so glad Terry's house lived up to your expectations, I imagine it to look something like the house from ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Alone, but more subdued!

Urrrgh, just been shopping, truely horrific. Toddler in buggy and baby in his hands free sling, it's the only way to do thing but still horrid. Still, I got most things I wanted and more (including an RC helicopter for Mr Jo for Christmas).

Have also just requested a song form MiniBob for tonight's Kiddies ARM. Rolf Harris COurt of King Karacticus (never know how that is spelt) anyone??

Anyhoo, have 2 boys napping so best put the nappies in the wash and start tea...a woman's work is never done and all that!

And you know when the day is dragging because you're really looking forward to 45 hours' time.

Mtd, there are no roads between the tube & front door of O2, promise, just a nice wide walkway which I'm sure will have been swept by the O2 elves. It really is the best place I have been to for access.

And the Slug & lettuce where I think we are meeting is inside the O2 so we won't even have to go outside to get to Matter!

Have heard forecast that says better by middle of the week, we can will it to be so!!

Well that was fun. Not! A journey of approx 17 miles, usually takes about half an hour took an hour tonight. Cooooolchester as choca-gridlocked - and sleety.

Baggles, hope you get home safe and sound hon xx

MTD or mtd - it's about a 2 minm walk from North Greenwich tube station on the Jubilee Line to the 02 Arena/Complex. From memory, I think 1 road to cross! Well signposted from the station - easy peasy lemon squeezy. Now just watch me get lost en route ...!!

MC - as JG said, don't give up. Praps one of our Midlands bloggers can give an update on that bit of the country? The roads here are clear, it's just the volume of traffic causing the problemos. Just allow PLENTY of time for your journey and don't forget to pack a peanut butter sarnie!

Right, dinner beckons, then an evening of wrapping up prezzies so we can offload them, ooops I mean deliver them of course, to family children, ergo getting some much needed space back in this ere abode.

    Which reminds me ...

What do you do if you see a spaceman?

    Park in it, man!

    Coat. I'll get. .....

Seza: Our weather forecast is the same - better by Wednesday, so hopefully Mary & Chrissie will be on that train.

All my chicks home and safe so I can relax.
