Shorts week and a short week, who could ask for more ?

Chris Evans | 11:24 UK time, Monday, 6 April 2009

Loving it, loving it all...

...speaking to you live from Absolutelybeautifulsville here in sunny Berks.

Days like today fill your heart with all the right gold don't they ? Even if the backside of you is falling out the other end like mine is. I have picked up a stomach bug from somewhere, not a problem just a pain in the butt - literally. Corny but true, I daren't venture more than a few metres from a toilet at the mo', inconvenient and it means a mad dash to the studio later but I have a photo shoot later this week so at least it means I might look a little less lardy by Wednesday. Always look on the birght side eh ?

Our new website goes live today. That is the whole of Radio 2's new website. We will be launching it later on during our show. Think Yellow Submarine that's all I'm saying for now.

So hope you have been well, the family is rocking and the old man is a year older. What did I get for my birthday ? From my wife, a pair of slippers, honestly just what I wanted, I had no idea she had some idea ! Noah bought me some t shirts and a Ferrari book, damn that kid he's just too generous and my daughter bought me the coolest book of all - Ferrari Legends, maybe they'd had words. Every time I get a new Ferrari book it reminds me of being a kid as it's full of things I can't have. Not a bad discipline. My mum bought me a copy of Richard Madeley's book though I have no idea why and it's signed.

The most useful thing I have learnt in the fourteen days since we last chatted is that frozen bread makes far better toast than fresh bread by miiiiiiles. It's crispier and crunchier all the way through. Go try sweet children I promise you it is thus.

    Hi Chris,

Sorry to hear you have the squits (or as my hubby would say, a runny bottom!)
Yes you will lose weight but it never stays off when you start eating normally again does it?

Easter holidays have started here, kids just chilling while I attempt to clean the house, so much to do, so little time! In to Norwich tomorrow for new shoes (them not me unfortunately) and maybe a trip to the cinema if we can all agree on a film to see.

London meet looks fab from the photos, and Bingo you're not quite what I was expecting, if you know what I mean!

Welcome back Chris, glad you had a good birthday, my hubby turns 43 on Easter Monday and I can't wait to give him his Paolo Nutini tickets! (and lots of other goodies)

    Take care,

    Em xx

    Afternoon Chief

Loving your "bright side of life" philosophy on the tummy bug / photo shoot situ! You will indeed go far with that attitude, Sir!

Glad your berfday was all you wanted it to be .... can't beat a good pair of slippers. I have pink ones with my beloved Arsenal crest on them ... all the way from The Armoury.

Other Deev news: have just booked a lovely 4-poster room at an old coaching inn in Norfolk (Gingembre will know the one to which I refer) for mine and Mr Deev's 13th wedding anniversary next month.

Who'd have thought ... all that time eh?!?

Right, work. Sadly. But only a 3 day week for me this week - hurrah!

    Laters.

Welcome back Chris...it ain't been the same!

Hope that the website is the only change, as there are 'rumblings' there might be other things!! Only time will tell.

Anyhoo, get your backside in that there studio and sit by the loo!!!

    Moring Chrissie boy . . .

    welcome back, welcome back . . .

All grand ere in Norn Irn - over the hump of the busy period and all set for an Easter in Abu Dhabi starting on Thursday - yippee . . .

    By the way - the no. 2 tip for the best toast . . . is . . . . .

    BUTTER BOTH SIDES . . . !!!!

    DtM xx

    PS, where did you "vacation"?

  • Comment number 11.

    sorry,

Many Happy Returns as well . . .

  • Comment number 12.

Doesn't it go soggy, buttering both sides?

  • Comment number 13.

    Welcome back Chris.

Glad you and the family had a great time but being very selfish, get back in the studio!!!!

  • Comment number 14.

Ahh I've found the MOST perfect toastie method

    1) butter one side of bread and place on hot plate of Rayburn

    2) place filling on top and butter other slice of bread

    3) place 2nd slice ontop of fill - butter side up and flip over - wait until cheese is melted remove from heat and eat!

YUMMM! - and no messy toastie plates to clean up

    Quack

  • Comment number 15.

Personally, for what it's worth, I toast bread then have to leave it a bit to cool down, then butter. That way you don't have soggy toast and the butter sits on the top and toast is crispy.

Taste buds now got the better of me and off to breadbin!!!

Bless Tash for looking after your poor old-man's feet! The Badger got the Top Gear annual for Christmas last, and it was his best present! I can't really start with the Ferrari malarkey...he gets the 'I wants' a bit too badly...and the main thing that he does get is the 'can't haves'...I do have to say though that you can never go wrong with a good pair of flippers or some warm glubs for birthday pressies...my foots would FRIZ without flippers.

Bingo??? I've said it all along...BINGO BOP!!! (Yet to be seen during daylight hours...)

Have been listening to R2 most of the day (turned JV down to a dull roar though I have to say) and hearing all your news bits...I'm assuming it's to do with the new website wot you mentioned? You big teaser!

Glad you had a good holiday, apart from picking up a tummy bug... And I agree, frozen bread does make great toast!

Sunny and warm here too, so beautiful. The wee fella is snoring on my lap, having had banana, chocolate biscuit and carrot for lunch, washed down with a milky drink and now it's siesta time for him. Lucky thing :) If I went and fell asleep now I'd want to sleep for far longer than I know he will!

Seen the pics of the latest meet - Bingo, phwoar blimey fella!!! And that's all I will say on that matter :)

Looking forward to the website re-launch :)

Good morning and afternoon, from a dull and dreary Upstate NY. Terrible winds and rain over the weekend. 60 MPH gusts..... and snow in some areas and more on the way tonight..... oh well. Hopefully we won't have a white easter but who knows, we had one before..... Hope you all had a great weekend and hope you have a wonderful holiday Chris.

    Hello Chris

I very much enjoy drive time I am a newbie to the blog and have wanted to post for a long time but a little afraid.

The Prof Plum character was scary. I mean I don't understand sarcastic humour and I don't think it belongs here.

I prefer reading about sensible things like recipes, allotments, sharing and caring about virtual people.
I don't think I could ever go to a meet but Bingo I am single and although a little large have interests in Music, Gardening, and funnily enough Bingo.

  • Comment number 38.

LMAO Dook and Beez, you just know how to cheer a guy up. Thanks. I will be thinking of both as I am in meeting. Back after!!

Bagpuss - sorry, didn't realise! At least you had Mr BP with you. There's no way I'd get Mr M to come with me (unless I didn't tell him you were all going to be there!) The sort of person I am it WOULD be the worst that can happen, Bingo's probably got an astrological theory about it (I'm a Sagittarian).

Just been contacted by an old school friend on FB, she's lovely but I feel really nervous, god knows why!

I know I'm way too late in the day, but just want to say - Chris, welcome back!
Even though I won't hear you at all this week, it's just nice knowing you are back!

I have had one of those really rubbish days, no real reason for feeling so bad, but I am just glad it's almost home time.

The only thing that has managed to get me through this day is looking at the photos of Bingo! Gorgeous! I bet you girls must have just about fainted when he walked in!

    Hiya Bingo!

    C xx

Super Bagpuss - maybe Mr M is hoping you will all be axe murderers, that's why he wants me to go on my own!

Lyndy - When I first meet people I come across as confident but I'm a bit of a wreck really! Never think anyone will like me. Really would love to meet you all, and hope I will soon xx

New website looks cool but glad blog hasn't changed.

PS AF and Annie- I saw amongst the post over the weekend you were talking about something available to buy in Valvona and Crolla? Well said shop is a mere 5 mins walk from my humble abode so if you are needing something and they don't do mail order I can get it for you and post it?

Ok, I've been lurking for months now, so time for a first post...

So glad to have Chris back, have just changed cars, and haven't sorted out the CD's yet, so had to listen to Mayo, who I used to like, but now find a bit bland.

Nicki - sorry to hear your news

The weird pub in Beaconsfield, can just about picture where it is, my Nan lived there and I was brought (dragged) up in HW, Lady Verney, now extinct, sadly.

Now in the North West, and not looking back :)

I would not worry guys it's the heart that is the face of the soul. I don't know what anyone looks like but the face tells you an awful lot.
Nicki Noo sorry to hear about the work situation. Hope a silver lining is around the corner.

I am off to Bingo now with my friend wish us luck.
