CARS AND GIRL IN THE USA AND THEN A BIT OF FRENCH FRANCE AND A BILL YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE.

Chris Evans | 14:57 UK time, Tuesday, 26 August 2008

Back and as always, whilst away...

...seemed like Radioland was but a distant memory and now back like the holiday never happened. But happened it did and here's how.

U.S.A. for eleven days, an interesting place to be as Michael Phelps fever took over the nation, nay the world. If you think we went mad over here, you should have seen the reaction over there.

Car shows and auctions at Pebble Beach and Monterey and whale watching. Guess which Tash was most into?

Then down to Laguna beach for a car free chill out few days and then back to L.A. for a bit of shop till you drop. Actually outdid Tash here, quite pleased with that.

Were booked to come back to England Friday but took one look at the weather and decided not to exit Heathrow, instead getting on un avion a France.

Up a mountain for the next three days just outside Monaco and get a load of this...

Steak and chips... seventy pounds, tomato salad...forty pounds and a 200 grams of caviar starter for FOUR GRAND ! What, what, what is that about?

Anyhow just been over the road to the local Italian and had an absolutely belting lunch for 12 quid, voila tout les mondes.

Hello Mr Evans and all in blogland.

Don't you all feel a huge relief that the man is back from what sounds like a superb holiday.

I have to agree that Monaco is just OTT, very expensive, too expensive and if you do as I did, and walk the streets in the blazing sun, TOPLESS, (just talking about men here) soaking in the rays,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

you WILL be threatened with arrest. I was told to put my top on instantly or I will be carted off to the local |(5star) prison, fined and let out. If I wanted to catch the rays, the beach and only the beach is the place to be.

So me being the law abiding scouser that I am,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, put me shiiiiirt bakkkk on dead quick like and strolled of down the street, cursing cause it was too hot and then bought a coke for £3, that was 14 years ago, rip off or what#'??????????

Anyhooooooooo Mr E,, put on an amazing show tonight cause I missed ya man.

Re the price of steak and chips in Monaco, its all relative.

To a multi millionaire 75 quid is nothing while to some people it is a small fortune.

If there were not people willing and able to pay those sort of prices then restaurants could not charge them.

    Evening one and all

Sat here with my rollers in hair and a facepack on, munching pork stratchings.

So nice to have the radio back to normal today, what with Steve Wright chatting to Cliff and talk of the CLP team broadcasting from a jacuzzi... great stuff.

As for the French well... I don't care much for horse and chips anyway.

    Welcome back Chris.

Sounds like you had a ball in my favourite part of the world.

Mrs MfR and I are now suffering from acute tunnel vision - all we can see is the chink of light at the end which is our holiday in the sun.

    Not long to go now......

More car washing in Cambridge today, although that'll be it for the time being up there. The M11 was starting to get just a little boring.

This Thursday sees Mrs MfR and I married for ten years. I won't bore you with the normal 'la la la, doesn't time fly' or anything, suffice to say that we are still a couple of kids in love at heart. Albeit kids who get hangovers after a couple of glasses of wine and who ache for three days after a vigorous game of tennis. But kids, nonetheless.

Proper early night tonight. Despite being the resident sleep-guru, I managed to get about an hour last night, so a quick bit of reheated pasta, a couple of chapters of Deaver and then, hopefully, a bit more than forty winks.

    Peace chaps

    MfR

Howya Chaps and Chappesses and Christoff mon petit grenouille, welcome back haw haw haw et sacre bleu.

Yous little globetrotters yous. Sounds fab. As to the caviar, I'm with you there. What indeed IS that all about.

Reminds me of the time meself, the GBF and his boyfriend and the nightmare cousin Baz and his missus went to see Joan Rivers in Dublin. A couple of Mojitos and a Harvey Wallbanger in the Morrisson followed by 'dinner', ie. one starter and twelve bottles of wine, and off we went to the theatre. By the time we got there I swear I was seeing pink elephants and spent the entire performance deciding which of the three floating Joan Rivers to focus on.

And worse was to come when we spilled joyfully out on to the street and spotted Louis Walsh. Now Baz's missus is a rabid FP spotter and therefore shoved the camera into Damian's hand, grabbed me by the epiglottis and rugby-tackled poor Louis to the tune of "Ooo, Louis!! Have we got the X Factor?" To which Louis replied, "Hmm. Max Factor, more like.."

Bloomin' cheek. Any road up bless him he posed like a saint for the photo but unfortunately Damian's aim isn't what it should be after Mojitos, wine and Absinthe and he cut all our heads off.

    Eejit.

Anyway hurrah we're going again to see Joan in a couple of weeks at Vicar Street and this time I'm takin' me billy can and a round of fish-paste sandwiches. Just in case. I shall report back.

It is so nice to have CLP back on the radio, I too heard the rumour about the "one" show and I enjoy Adrian Chiles as presenter is he changing places for an experiment with Chris?

I also think that Rob Brydon makes a very good DJ and his Deliah remains an amusing memory.

Oh no.. visions oh being towed in a Caravan to the Dorset Steam fair...

  • Comment number 37.

Bobbly swimsuits, oh hahahaha now I shall have to go lie down, that's brought it all flooding back, Camping Cala Gogo on the Costa Naffo circa 1962, the sister going straight through the deckchair and doing an excellent impersonation of a stranded (angry) beetle; the DDF Eric turning puce tryin' to inflate a li-lo I'd stuck me Townsend Thoresen Ferry badges into; Uncle Jim refusin' to sleep in the tent in rural France after he met a bug in the middle off the night that doffed its pit-helmet at him and asked him for a light; everyone eatin' curried beans and custard after I failed spectacularly in my special mission to de-code the tins bought from the Heinz factory at cost because the labels fell off (serves 'em right for tryin' to keep me quiet on the journey); the DDF desperately searching for a toilet and finding one of those ones that are just a porcelain slab with a hole in the corner, doing the business and pulling sharply on the chain...quel dommage, the shower came on... Ah yes, happy days.

And don't mention the swimsuit knitted by Renee that had you in a right dilemma as to which way to face when the waves got a hold of it and very nearly dragged you right under the surf if you stayed in longer than 3 minutes.

Right. Off to the scratcher, perchance to dream..

    Hi to All,

Found this little piece on the Internet which may explain Chris and The One Show.

"³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans is to return to television to host The One Show, it has been confirmed.

³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ One controller Jay Hunt said that Evans would cover for Adrian Chiles when he goes on holiday next year.

Hunt said Evans would do "very well" at hosting the programme, and refuted suggestions that someone with more journalistic credence would be more suitable.

She added that The One Show is "a magazine show with light journalistic items... and that's absolutely something Chris can do."

For brevity, I have abridged the article.

    Have a good Wednesday.

Had really bad night's sleep last night. Woke up at 1.45am and then was after 5 when finally managed t get back to zzzz land again. You know when you can't sleep and all those wee gremlins keep jumping all over your brain and won't go away. No matter how hard you try to think nice thoughts...and was so tired couldn't be bothered getting up for the recommended tea'n'toast. But anyway, in midst of night time gremlin fight, realised that it is so nice to be able to come on here and chat with all you bloggers. Also if BM and CtD were not providing regular blogs it would be really weird. Think you 2 have got your own little blog radio programme there...!!! Anyway just wanted to say it's always nice to see regular bloggers and what's been going on with them. So thank you...all of you.

Just off to get some tea'n'toast now. Post Alfie walk, covered in mud, both of us, and both needing good wash down!!! So see you all soon scrubbed up!

Gingembre - I bet you're glad you've been out the country for the last two weeks what with Spurs' shocking start to the season. Let's hope we pull it back at Chelsea on Sunday.

CLP - welcome back. YIKES!! 4 grand for caviar? I've never tried it but surely nothing that you merely EAT can be THAT nice? A pair of Christian Louboutins yes, but not something you shove in your mouth!
