Chris Evans | 15:00 UK time, Tuesday, 8 July 2008

My mate Marky Mark, the one who threw away the Damien Hirst has finally come up with a brilliant idea...

...replace the credit crunch with the stomach crunch. In short, when the material world is left wanting, spend the leaner motnhs or what may even turn out to be years working on yourself. Doesn't cost anything, well very little, and ends up making you feel a million dollars. Fit is the new rich and all that.

Can you imagine if we all took on this philosophy? If we let the few thousand people who run our purse strings and depend on times like these to extend the gap between the haves and the have nots know that we don't give a hoot. In fact on the contrary we need a financial wake up call to realise most of us have what we need in the first place.

I had a really cold shower in the gym today after working my bollocks off, I was knackered and pouring with sweat and it was like heaven, it was amazing, it was all I wanted in the world.

Me and the Mrs have been living in the trailer for six weeks now and we haven't missed a thing, not really. Three t-shirts, two pairs of jeans have seen me through.

Enzo would give anything to be home and walking again.

The tennis was for free and left us all spellbound.

Music is all around.

how was the tennis free? Unless you don't have to pay the £141 ish for your TV license??

if you had more clothes you could turn the washing machine on less and save energy - think about it (unless you smell in which case well done - very eco friendly!)

Good Tuesday to you and all yours Christophe!!

To be frank (as long as DD is susan) I think I'd probably throw a Damien Hirst out too. Especially if I didn't know what it was. And if it smelt of formaldehyde.

I reiterate my previous 'Three Qs for Msr Le Blanc' but if you're gonna arst them, you'd better substitute the words 'hazel love' for the word 'me' else the missus'll be gettin' suspishus to say the least...or hopeful. You just never know do you.

    1. Marco, when was the last time you covered me in chocolate and cream?

    2. Whaddya mean you can't remember?

    3. Wanna do it again?

A most thought provoking blog Chris. When I arrived in the UK, the hubby and I spent a year living with in-laws and we had one room and didn't own anything! The most liberating part of it was not owning any keys!!!!!!!!

No house, no car - no nothing!!! No keys meant that the only thing we had to look after was ourselves. It really was great. And when our container arrived with all our belongings it was so exciting to see them all - tinged with a bit of sadness that we had now lost our independance. I did take great strength in the knowledge that I could do without these material goods and, in fact, wondered why I had even shipped them over.

I've been thinking exactly the same thing myself . . .swap the shops for the gym - dont bring the wallet to the gym - that way, you can't stop anywhere and spend money on the way home . .

So, Christophe, didja see the supplement that came with the Mail on Sunday (other supplements and Sunday malarkey available) last week or this week? (Have been poorly so memory is the first thing that had to go for the moment). They did an article about an Airstream caravan. Rather you than me, but then I'd rather live in a caravan than a tent given some of the weather you must have had! And I am also living in three t-shirts and two pairs of jeans. Because they fit mainly.

...and durbangirl, what a lovely story...hope you're all settled now!

Oh - I invented a new word at the weekend. Undecided what to wear for a drinking session involving heavy walking, i texted a friend, saying:-

    "I need a good Gokking"

She thought I was being really rood. So I replied "in the wardrobe".

Just thought I'd share that with y'all. Coz it's better than trying to decipher my boss's writing at this moment in time!

Afternoon all you very busy blogging people - catching up completed.

Coco you have my sympathies for the travellers who have today moved into the car park on the overcliffe and will no doubt leave it as a rubbish dump when they eventually depart.

Coco - don't depart - who else local will I have to talk to? My interview today was in the great glasshouse and hopefully will result in 6 months contract work.

Off out tonight across to Blandford and will be listening in to MPW on Drivetime.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree about the borderline between vigorous debate and predjudice - but hay wouldn't life be boring if we all agreed on everything.

Coco- sorry for the Hitler comment and please do not stop posting that was not my intention. I understand that some people have had issues with travelling folk, it is just the use of the G word which upsets me. I came down on my kids like a ton a bricks when I heard them use it. what do you think about killing foxes and culling badgers (not yours of course deary)??

Light the blue touch paper and off to play scrabble!

    Beesmum xx

  • Comment number 50.

BM - Foxes? Badgers? I believe everything exists and is sustainablel in balance. The ancient Greeks' cardinal sin of "hubris" is all we should worry about. It means excess - and excess kills every time.

If the badgers are carrying disease surely we should be investigating why. And why it is now a problem. Did they always carry TB? Is it a recent problem? Are we encroaching too much on their habitat? I don't know those answers but I do think that if culling is necessary to sustain a healthy population of badgers then so be it. Fox hunting has kept a balance for centuries as has hare and rabbit hunting.

Who knows - one day we may be the subject of just such a discussion among even higher beings. They may decide a cull is best to rid the population of rogue elements and thereby make life more sustainable.

To find a balance and avoid excess is the challenge.

Off my soap box now!!! Should clear my mind for the rest of the day!

  • Comment number 54.

Oh, CtD, regarding shooting BaW : I have never used the BaW setting on my camera except to play with it.

  • Comment number 55.

Instead I recommend using vivid colour setting and then using software to change it after. It is easy to leech colour from a shot but almost impossible to put it in.

  • Comment number 56.

Some of my best images are BaW but did not start out that way. For a cheap and quick result I recommend Picasa Two (use goog) as it is a free, easy to use and fun way to catalogue your shots and has a simple but surprisingly good basic edit suite

  • Comment number 57.

...use "change to BaW" (there is even a filter option) and then use "highlights" and "shadows" adjuster and finally have a play with the warmifier.

  • Comment number 58.

If you want somethig a bit more professional then you can install Paint(dot)net (goog it)...it is a free version of photoshop and is pretty good...but PS3 is the one I recommend to most..just have to fork out a few readies.

    Morning all and CLP,

Have to agree with you about credit crunch to stomach crunch,,,,,,,,,,, it's just getting off my ass and doing it and as the pounds pile on (for the first time in my life I get called fat woo hoo) I really do think about it every day as I love doing energetic things and breaking a good sweat, it's getting round to doing them thats the problem. My problem is that after a hard days work ( don't laugh, I do work hard:::::::::::::::::::sometimes ) I just want to relax and chill but my mind is racing and I do talk too much lol

It Has been a very talkative morning today on here, quite a debate going on all round, from badgers to worms to what next,,,,,,,undercrackers, class word, ent heard that for a few years, always brings a chuckle to me.
You women think you have probs with them, think of the dilemma us men have, boxers, y-fronts, briefs, thongs (eeuukkkkk not for me lol) thankfully we dont have to worry about bikini wax etc, I have had my eyebrows plucked!!!!!!!! sod doing anywhere else, how ever good it looks, STICK TO A RAZOR, thats my advice haha.

    OR just go commando?

Anyhooooooo today is the day I am a glorified paper boy, the joys of working for a newspaper, got to deliver 50 papers today, when they come in, but at least it gets me out of the office for 4-5 hours and in this wonderful English weather, I could buy a brolly, NOT, rather get wet, I like wet, except for the drops of rain on the glasses, oh well, thats life, how is yours?

People think I am really busy this morn as I am in deep thought and writing this, just taking my time, thinking of the good things in my life, lots of em, and my next holiday and the worms.

    #49 killing and culling ....

All part of living in the country I believe. Been going on for centuries and don't see how the Numpty Brigade have the audacity to ban hunting.

Mind you, in Suffolk we don't need to cull badgers. They appear to take their evening naps in the middle of busy roads, thus solving the culling problem all by themselves.

As for others that need culling: people who start every sentence with "yeh, no, yeh .... ", people who don't know how to pull up to a petrol pump properly thus leaving room for others around them, people who call their children bizarre names ... I could go on. But I've work to do.

I feel a little aggrieved with rich folk saying it's easy to cope in a recession, just don't spend anything and get fit... AnnieG - there are a few people I don't bother reading, but that's because they're dull! Whereas the inimitable Insp. Coco is always worth a read.

The Archers are exploring the issue of mineral salt deprevation in badgers causing TB epidemic - I'll let you know what they find out!!

    Happy Hump Day

I agree about the rich folk comment. Going back to MPW last night, good for him on his stance with the "cheap chickens" issue - taking into account earnings, family to feed etc not everyone can afford free-range or organic. Freedom of choice is one of the good things about this country ... for now, anyway!

And stick-thin celebs who "get back in shape" in an instant really peeeee me off. Mega bucks. Loadsa time. Personal trainer. Personal gym. You wanna try working full-time and running a home. Then fit all your personal "me me me" time in love!!

    Phew.

And thanks for the hugs, sooo needed today.

Gingembre good to hear from you.

It's little man's summer concert today, he is so excited. Mr Debbie is coming home early to see it too.

Hope you all have a good day.

    JenEwan,

Am now intrigued. Who do you not bother reading? Or will you not reply to me as I am one of the aforementioned dull people and so you won't read this?

    MW, a!

I'll be watching next week but will have to turn away at the demise of David and Elton. I bet Janet cries. Shes a big softie really.

In the meantime, we have Celeb Masterchef to enjoy. Celeb in the very loosest sense of the word, but still a fab programme!

Jen - looking forward to Badger update - wonder if Hazel was a consultant for those episodes ...

MW,a! and CtD - really don't feel I can say, though I wish I had the spuds for it...

But how cool and sexy was the great man last night. I disagree with some comments above, I thought the Main Man was gorgeous, poetic, reasonable, inspired and inspiring. Yep, CtD, he's changed my mind about really cheap birds, too!

Tinsel - I don't think she will cry to be honest. I think she be standing watching holding a knife and fork.

Debbie - when at Harry's concert later, just keep thinking Love Spuds when you see the other grey-bedraggled daddies in the crowd with their camcorders!

    Perhaps tears of laughter .... ? ? ?
