THREE TON AND FOURTEEN.

Chris Evans | 15:08 UK time, Thursday, 26 June 2008

The wife's stressed, poor love, it's Elton's...

...white tie and tiara ball tonight and cos' we live in a trailer and EVERYTHING WE OWN is in storage, we've both been wearing basically two sets of clothes for the last four weeks and consequently now have to go and buy things we probably already have. Don't mind spending money but hate wasting it ! Aggghh.

Tash hit Selfridges this morning for both of us and oh-oh, first day of the sales, apparently it was packed, she spent most of the morning in rope guided queues being biffed and bashed in and amongst the bargain hunters. She said it was like a war. She finally emerged back onto the relative calm of the high street with some stuff that may look vaguely in keeping with tonight's theme. Bless that woman.

I, on the other hand, am pathetic and would pay double the ticket price to not have to do any of the above and slip off to the pub with the team after the show for a couple of shandys. As it happens I will change into the sale gear whilst the gob smackers are on and then climb aboard a motor bike to try to get to the "do" whilst there's still some grub left. Dinner is served at eight however so the chance of me seeing anything the civil side of the dessert seems pretty remote. Central London to Windsor in anything less than one hour fifteen and I can't leave till quarter past seven - no chance. By the time I do arrive, hopefully, Tash will have enchanted and beguiled those who need to be and maybe even saved me a cocktail sausage.

Never been before, tell you all about it tomorrow.

DON'T FORGET YOU ALL REQUEST FRIDAY FIRST SONG.

No fait accompli this week!

Always wanted to go to Elton's bash - reckon it will be fantastic. Let me know if he is in the market for a v good housekeeper...

    Anyway, ARF request,

Please could we have Mr Spock's slap on the cream song... I don't really believe i heard it, I reckon maybes I just dreamt it?

    jx

PS Katie - am so excited for you. How cool and wonderful, pee on!

  • Comment number 23.

Just booked a weekend at Loch Insh, can't wait. Will walk round Loch an Eilein, look at the deer and red squirrels, stop for a fag (B-sMum!) and enjoy the peace. Can't wait.

The girl I spoke to asked if I wanted the free watersports. Nooooooooooo - I'll sink and die. I have negative bouyancy, you know. I read that somewhere and it sounded just like me, so I adopted it.

    Anne xx

  • Comment number 24.

Have a wonderful time at the ball but don't stay to be turned into a marrow, or is it a pumpkin? After the problems with the car, take a carriage so that the horses say 'Nay speeding'. Scottish you know.

One question what outfit are you going to wear with that white tie and tiara Chris? Now that is a novel combination.

Will reconsider parties when I'm not ? ton and ? age. Maybe in the next life eh? It's sure too late in this one.

Tell Elton that 'money is not the key to happiness, but if you have some at least you can buy a key. C D E F G A B.

Did anyone find out if bingo was ok btw?

    Sara xx

  • Comment number 27.

    Hi Chris
Have a wonderful time tonight, I wish Tash could put me in her handbag. My tiara would get a bit crumpled though, as I can only afford to make it out of tinfoil. How about the Stones, Brown Sugar for A R F. I still have my Sticky Fingers album, with the zip fly.
    Have a good W/end.
    Mel x

  • Comment number 28.

Mel: Forgot about the Stones. The music of my youth!! Jumping Jack Flash!

    Anne xx

  • Comment number 29.

White tie and tiara... *wonders where she last saw her tiara* I wonder if a feather headdress would count? Got one of those... and a dress to go with it! Am in a state of slight disbelief that I have actually managed to make this dress. "Easy - 1 hour" indeed. Yeah right. Took longer than that to cut the pattern out. Mind you, now that's done and I know my way around the destructions, I might only take an hour next time if I make a dress for myself, rather than a fancy-dress party....

Now then, ARF... "Fever" as sung by Peggy Lee...... "Captain Smith and Pocahontas had a very mad affair...." :-)

    Ola one and all

    Back to sunny little Britain.
I think I will avoid the sales as I would rather pay twice than shop in a rugby scrum.

I don't think I will ever catch up with the blog as it is sooo busy these days, even Facebook I can't keep up with. I see a picture of Gingembre with Bruce Forsyth though. So it was him on play your cards right... knew I had seen that face before somewhere. Anyway hope you are all well. I just posted the picture of my boat on facebook....for anyone who might be interested....

As a big Beach Boys fan I named my boat Darlin...... so thats my choice for Alf.

Love to all and Portals Nous

    Coco.

  • Comment number 32.

KJR - congrats you go get all excited indeed I think you can just go ahead - mind you if you turn up at the airport with all those banners in a silk dress you won't be standing for a week at least.

For ARF CLP could I have Electric Blue by Icehouse please. Haven't heard it in years.

If not will settle for Your the Voice by John Farnham as it will get me singing along right from the beginning of the programme.

EJR and CtD - calm down you two you are making me envious.

Just spent approx 4 hours plus in the healthy place today as a treat for my cousin - swam a bit in the outside pool, relaxed in the jacuzzi - had coffee and lunch - took her to her hosp appt and went off to relax in the park - met up and went back to healthy place for more swimming and jacuzzing - can't be beaten.

  • Comment number 33.

Coco I'm off to look at your boat....

  • Comment number 34.

Ohhh, I so want a tiara, but sadly will probably never have the chance to wear one. Paris Hilton I'm not!

Not visited the blog for ages as have been working my socks off - landed a promotion though so it was worth it.

See it's still as busy as ever. Loved Nigels "phone box" bloop on tonights show. Laughed so much the guy in the next car thought I was going bonkers I think! Mine wasn't a phone box but a grand piano - nuff said!! Memories though!

  • Comment number 37.

sat in the office at work still!!!!!!!!!!! how jealous am i of chris going to that bash, maybe we should have a bbc radio 2 bloggers party then we could all wear tiara's and fancy clothes and pretend that we, the humble radio 2 listeners, are indeed posh and rich.
how about for ARF, "since you've been gone" by rainbow? I asked for "hold the line" by toto last week and when i tuned in monday it was being played on the show!
Does this mean we are having an "all request 5:25-5:28 pm Monday" slot now? the mind boggles

    Evening all,

Metinks one of the hoard of cats has been drinking the water. Big mess everywhere and Errol taking a funny turn - not good with sick (other icky yukkinesses available, as I'm sure I'll find in the morning). Don't know how he managed to turn the tap on - the cat I mean, not Errol.

I am looking to hold a bit of a garden party, complete with an outdoor screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Ad lib sheets will be provided, everyone in fancy dress, and no regulations on water pistols and rice throwing. Bring a tent and there is room for all. Its not orrften we receive visitors here, let alone offer them horsspitality!

Oh, better bring some bottled water too.

ARF Request this week is for The Fratellis, Chelsea Dagger. Don't know why, but not been able to get it out of my head this week.

Good morning one and all, and hopefully after yesterday's sleep throughout the afternoon I won't be ill again this weekend. I ate more last night than I have done in any other sitting this week, thank goodness my appetite is back again.

#52 / #53... Hormones?! Good grief, don't get me started on hormones.... And I know exactly the right word (I think there's quite a few words actually)!

Bingo said he was off into rehab didn't he, I wonder what for - stress at all the one-liners perhaps. Don't blame him.

Gingembre - presumably they said from the neck up you were still functioning satisfactorily? Hope you enjoy the ball - ooh a tux eh!

I'm still hoping for my Captain Smith to appear for tomorrow night, although my hopes of that happening seem to be totally reliant on me going out on the hunt today (for a costume, not a husband replacement).

Lots of great ARF choices here, wish we could have all of them!! How about a bloggers' night - all the songs chosen by the bloggers? We wouldn't be able to move for suggestions though would we :)

Off to fix the hemline for The Dress now, mr jumpingbean has suggested the line to cut at and I REALLY hope my legs stand up to all the exposure tomorrow night...

So about 12 year ago I started my GCSE's Chirs you where on the other station doing the breakfast show at that point!
I was terrified of these exams, like literally my first real stress of my life! I had a radio alarm clock and when I got woke up that morning of my first exam guess what you were playing? Boo Radley 'Wake up' Its completely changed me that morning! Made me think 'Gosh there must be worst to come in life'
So yup at the age of 27 after university stress and job stress I have now experienced redundancy stress! Whats that all about! I have been one of the lucky ones in all this mess but what has stuck with me from that first GCSE morning is that life is too short to worry! Hi Chris

Can't help notice that whenever you mention your current accommodation it is referred to as an 'American Trailer'. You don't refer to your Ferrari as an 'Italian Sportscar' so be proud and call it what it is - an Airstream.
