A third of the way in to a...
... three year contract and all seems to be going splendidly well. It's as if we've only just started doing this job.
It's the self same feeling I had when I was doing The Big Breakfast. Every day was like a dream come true, not for a second was it a drag. Sure we had our moments but in the end we all knew that we were working on something really quite special, something that would be talked about for years to come.
It is not an over-exageration to say this is how we all feel about DRIVE TIME.
It is of course a team that makes a hit and I have the best team, simply the best.
One of our little flock leaves next week, these things happen. None of us want him to go and I would like to right here right now scotch the rumour that it was I who engineered his deoarture due to the fact that he's impossibly handsome. Yes ladies I'm afraid the departee is Naughty Nick the best looking lad in radio anywhere in the world.
Sob, sob, I know, I'm with you.
Now, here's one of the reasons I think living is a good idea....

Where was yesterdays thought of the day - spent all day logging in to catch it!
my drive home each day is lovely - to avoid the terrors of the handycross roundabout (other roadworks are available) then I drive down a single track lane and count the wildlife I see - and not all of them deceased!
Back to Mondays topic - Damon Albarn is the best looking man in music, Tuesdays topic - my local butchers do fab sausages, and todays topic - HAPPY BIRTHDAY - sorry about that but icannot text or email on my way home and have things i would like to share.

Deadlock the doors, put the alarm on and leave the dog out. Then go out shopping, meet some mates, have dinner and forget about him.
Then when you get back he'll be poleaxed with rage, drunk and unable to drive. When you apologise and try to redeem yourself with "Look, at my age I have to lock 'em in. They escape otherwise", he will simply lose the will to live and become yours forever.
It worked for me. Unfortunately.

So a third of the way into the contract - good, more good listening days to come...I had the joy of listening to the show for the first 4 weeks before moving back to Ireland, and since then I've been hooked. Thankfully it takes me 20mins to get home, switch on Radio 2 on the satellite dish, or right now listen on that old interweb thingy!
So, the evenings awaits, the sun is shining, the ickle show is 1 and all's well with the world.

The pic you took of the greenery in the sunshine is lovely CLP. My thoughts as I drove to work this morning went along the lines of "my heart is breaking, but at least the sun is shining". I have alluded to this previously - no matter how hard things are, the sun will still come up the next day and thank goodness it did, gloriously.
I have now reverted to pre-Flutterby Man state of icy numbness, preparing to never, ever let anyone in even remotely close ever again. I am sooooooo stoopid!!
HL - the reading matter of choice has nothing whatsoever to do with the current state of affairs, promise. You are most definitely safe with me!

I love my drive home. Once I've crossed the city boundary I feel that I can breathe again and everything seems to come into sharper and clearer focus.

I think it is REALLY mean of you to announce Nic's departure whilst lyndyloo is out of the country (yeah she's skiing and probably having a lovely time) but you all know how she feels about Nic. I am already hearing the sobs of disbelief and seeing the shoulders of grief shuddering, when she finds out the sad truth on Sunday after she gets back.

Great birthday show last night. Only caught the last half but good to hear Big Country again (poor, tragic Stuart Adamson).
After 3 weeks of throwing buckets of water down toilet, I now have a FLUSH!! Only took that long because couldn't find a plumber. Have now paid him a Kings Ransom and will be eating beans on toast for the rest of the month.

I am hoping that the flush is hardwearing an durable if all you're eating is baked beans on toast for a month. I wasn't sure if that was to reflect the cost of the plumbing work, or just because you can now that flush is installed.

Well done on 1 year! Who'd have thought it?!Certainly not the bunch who used to post on the R2 message boards (before they were censored, sorry, re focussed - see recent host comment "The Radio 2 messageboard is for musical discussion only. Any other discussions may be removed or closed for being off-topic.Exterminate, exterminate!"). They've set up their own site now but it was a great laugh reading the rantings of the few on the subject of Messrs Evans, Ross etc. , I disagreed with almost everything they said but I defend their right to say it & it did add a bit of edgy debate to the proceedings!
Yikes, have just opened oven to put in a pie, and discovered the birthday cake I made for you for yesterday Chris. It's melted beyond any recognition now, because I was preheating said cooker...this is what it should have looked like!

Can't listen in tonight, I've bin kidnapped by the daughter and forced to go shoppin' against me will.
Now listen up. Is it just 'ere in Equatorial Wigan where we've kamikaze bees the size of Fiat Puntos? Or is it country-wide and due to Global Warming and the mobile phone masts?
No sooner have I calmed me mother down after she was cruelly bombarded whilst enthroned on the downstairs toilet, leaving her blinded and traumatised and with the Wigan Observer blown right up round 'er 'ead, I've just tripped over another right outside me front door, tryin' to break into me car.
Luckily, I was carryin' me This Season's Must-Have Big Bag, so I was able to stun it with a right hook first and thrust said bag over its rotor blades before heroically draggin' it down the drive and into next door's wheelie bin, hurriedly placing their concrete lion on top.
So I'm not comin' back home till nightfall, matey. I'm not bein' responsible for the carnage that will be the neighbour's gruesome demise when he opens the lid and gets ambushed and garrotted.

No, Clodagh. I have mentioned the Bee phenomenon on this very forum before. Something along the lines of 'There is a Bee in the office'. I wouldn't normally be persuaded to comment on the presence of our insect friends, but this Bee was HEEEEEEEOUGE! It had a little basket hanging from it's belly from which I could see the glint of a camera or binoculars - too small to identify any more clearly.
I then read, in the Current Bunne that there is a new species of Super Bee, equipped with Zeppelin type qualities and the capacity to carry extra loads. This is no ordinary blimp, this Bee feeds on pollen harvested from the Robert Plant. (Genus: Jimmuspagii. A tall flowering shrub, native to these shores, with appealing helixate foliage and a pleasing blossom).
The Queen Bee prefers muddy waters in which to start a hive, but should the marshland not be available (having been built on by greedy land development companies) a small local arena may prove a suitable substitute.
There is also a rogue Bee, of a similar species, named the 'Remington Buzz-away'. This Bee looks as though it is wearing a striped vest with arrows on it. Do not approach this Bee under any circumstances, especially if you have extraneous nasal hair, or bobbles on your knit wear. This Bee can be extremely dangerous...

Annie G #24 - the car is Purrrrfect! Getting used to the weird keyless ignition took some doing but I think I've cracked it now! I believe I got a real bargain and lomg may it run and run and run ........
Just got back from a lovely long lunch with my best friend and birthday twin ('cept she's 5 years my junior). It was great to meet up without husbands or kids - we just sat in the pub for almost 3 hours, catching up, laughing, sharing tales and gossipping. The waiters were kind on the eye and there was a Desperate Housewives-esque topless gardener into the bargain!! Hurrah!
Life's grand at he mo - a far, far cry from my recent portacabin hell. I'm really looking forward to starting the new job on Monday too.
Tomorrow .. trraining walk / ironing / bit of housework or all 3?
Off to concoct tonights delectation now - chicken in a 'Jimmys Farm' rub, home made potato salad and a big healthy garden salad with olives.

Chris heard your show last night and it was wonderful. Well done you for promoting the local butcher. One of the things people like to say to each other is "what's the favourite thing you like to look at" and for me my answer has always been "a butchers window" - you cannae beat it!
Sorry I'm a bit late to wish you happy birthday. But HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I can't believe how quickly you've made the Drive time slot your own and I regularly listen when cooking the kids' tea.
I've even put you in my book (this is true) I do have a book coming out in September and one of my characters dances in the kitchen to Sheryl Crowe on All Request Friday. It's a really important moment in the book too... My hero is watching her dance and realises he really really needs to be with her...aaah..
