Wow, spot on review!

However, the song is a bit of a grower after a while. I would have gave it an extra star!! I like the techno breakdown despite it copying the whole "Will.i.am. rock the beat now!" from 'Boom Boom Pow'

It is hard being a pop act, where one is only one failure away from ignominy.
Fortunately, music presenting is more forgiving.
Fearne & Reggie killed off TOTP with moronic interviews and slebrity replacing an interest in music.
But are they finished? Of course not, now they're doing the same with the Chart Show.
"Text in who you think is gonna be Number 1" Err, why? Why should I care what someone else thinks will be Number 1, when I'm just about to find out what actually IS Number 1.
Ditch F&R, replace them with someone who cares about the music & maybe understands the music is the star.

I caught you Fraser...2 Ting Tings references in 2 reviews! That song has just started playing on the radio in the States, and now I realize why you like it so much. It's so catchy!

And Spirit, I think I already know what you're going to say about the chart show in relation to this blog. And I have to agree. But we'll have that say tomorrow.

I don't listen to the Chart Show, so I can't comment on it. And I'm no great fan of Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates, let me be clear (although I can't see how they'd be any worse than Edith Bowman and Scott Mills when it comes to irritating buffoons on Radio 1).

In their defence, I'm not sure how you can say they killed TOTP. I belive it was on its way down the toilet long before they got involved. And triple charisma bypass patient Tim Kash was a faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar worse presenter than them.

The problem, if there is one, is that they come across like children's TV presenters, or at least that's how they seem to me at times. Not sure if it's because that's what they used to do, and they haven't translated their style to an older audience; or because I'm older and outside of the target audience, and their style is just fine for who they're aiming at.

Ah well - makes no difference to me.

Oh yes, the song - meh. I don't mind the borrowing of "I'm Too Sexy", etc, but it's just such a blatant example of bandwagon-jumping, and an American bandwagon at that. The trancey synths, which have been around in dance music forever and which US hip hop has only just discovered and decided to put in EVERY SONG over the last two years; the American drawling ("If I had a dime..."? A DIME??!! Shut up); oh, just the whole thing.

They were good when they were 15 (Overload, Run For Cover etc). They were good the second time around (even though Freak Like Me was really just Richard X's project, and they were lucky he couldn't get the rights to the original vocals and needed someone else to re-record them). And they still have the odd really good single (personally I liked Girls, despite ChartBlog tearing it in half); but they used to be actually cool, and they haven't been for quite a long time.

Well , to me THE CHART SHOW is one of the jewels in RADIO 1'S CROWN !

It is the first time that anyone in the world hears the official chart , and it is the absolute foundation on which most of the entire music business is based on .

Single and album sales are a BIG , BIG DEAL !!!

Anyone who has followed me , on this absolutely brilliant blog , excellently managed by Fraser McAlpine , will know that I am deeply passionate about music , have music in my blood and most of the time know what I'm talking about . (OK some of the time ! lol )

For me the presenters of THE RADIO 1 CHART SHOW , need to as ANT says let the music be the star ! It's ALL about the music .
Trust me , there are loads of ways you can make the chart show more interesting and exciting than what is currently happening .

I love music and presenting , with an absolute love and drive , but I CANNOT , CANNOT listen to the chart show because of it's annoying , condascending nature .
Is it aimed at under 10's ?
PLEASE , PLEASE , STOP !!!
The amount of people I know who love music and the charts , but can't listen to the chart show because of how it is presented ,runs into thousands .
I find myself literally screaming at the radio every time it's on , because , trust me , I know how it SHOULD be done, and the current way frustrates the life out of me and lots of others !

You could say , well don't listen to it then ?
But it's the first way that us music people learn about official chart positions. It's just such a torturous way to find out !!!!

The CHART show needs to be exciting , informative ,full of suspense , intrigue and letting the music and the songs be the stars of the show.

My God , I would give so much information about each song .

Yes , I have hundreds of ideas , I could have stayed silent , but as soon as I read ANT'S words , I had to be true to myself and the world of music !

The presenter of the RADIO 1 CHART SHOW needs to be in love with the music !

OK , back to THE SUGABABES and after the album CATFIGHTS AND SPOTLIGHTS , was a disappointment at retail , and the last single NO CAN DO , barely scraped the top 20 , there were a lot of behind the scenes discussions and plans for this , the next SUGABABES single .

This NEEDS , for the sake of their well being , to be a TOP 10 single !

Nothing less will do. Fraser alludes to this superbly in his review.

The big question is ... will it go TOP 10 ?

Well , knowing how the pop machine works ,it has all the ingredients to do so .
1) Sounds great in a club ? YES
2) Video , that stands up for repeated viewing ? YES.
3)Catchy chorus , that will get people singing ? YES .
4) At least 4 strong hooks in a song ? YES .
5) Radio play at radio 1 ? YES
6) Airplay on the TV music channels ? YES
7) A song that will get people talking ? YES
8) A song aimed at the record buying demographic ? YES

Sugababes , your future is safe.

This is a good song though, I don't mind the sampling at all. Infact I quite like to hear how different artists use different tracks in their music - And since when did songs have to rhyme? It's like saying poems have to rhyme. I love a bit of sampling I do.

I feel you're all making a big deal of this Ting Ting's Shut Up And Let Me Go/Watch Me Walk thing. I honestly don't feel like they did that on purpose and I'm sure I've heard that phrase long before the ting tings arrived on my radio.

Too right I'm after the Chart Show job , just like Dan's after early breakfast , now that Greg's leaving !

To be honest , it's not a super , super great SUGABABES single , as was , FREAK LIKE ME , ROUND ROUND , UGLY , PUSH THE BUTTON or HOLE IN THE HEAD , but I think anyone in the know , who could see their sales trajectory , are happy that they are releasing a song that should get a top 10 placing .

It needed to sound big and massive , and say WE'RE BACK !

I admit on first play months ago , I DIDN'T like it , but after a while , all those hooks get under your skin , and you can see why it's their comeback single .

And don't forget the added appeal of AMELLE just having a NUMBER 1 with TINCHY STRYDER . That has boosted the profile of the SUGABABES and was a very, very , clever idea !

Oh , all this chat , and we all have to wait 12 days to find out it's peak chart position !

Thanks, Finchbusters, but I do realise that "dime" conveniently rhymes with "time" (ooh, and with "rhyme"). But I'm sure they could find lyrics to convey the same message that don't rely on having to use Americanisms terms which have literally no application in their home market.

It's a pet peeve of mine. Same with singers who adopt a different accent when they sing (usually an American one). I know most do it, and it'll probably always be like that, especially in pop, but I dislike the fake-itude of it.

And besides, with the exchange rate, she'd probably have a lot more...

I share your slightly-pissed-off-edness but saying "dime" is nothing. You should listen to Russian radio. Imagine someone singing "later you can sing to me like a shining star/but I'd rather do you in the back seat of my car" with a strong Russian accent. You could actually hear him wince.

Also, there are actually a lot of words that rhyme with pound, so you're right there's no excuse. Hmm, if I had a pound for every... bound... mound... uhhh.

"If I had 10p, for everytime I see, these boys stop and stare, I'd be a billionaire".

This is one of those songs that knows it's shallow, isn't ashamed to be shallow and likes to shove its shallowness in your face. And I love it. Even more so because it marks a return for the in-yer-face Sugababes that disappeared around about 2006. The 'dime' bit annoys me though. Top marks to CurtainJerker, that made me laugh.
Overall, in agreement with Dannyboy, 4 stars

I think Ferne and Reggie are a decent combination on the radio actually! Ferne on her own, I am also a fan of. Reggie does flounder a bit on his own though.
