Kings Of Leon - 'Sex On Fire'

Kings Of LeonThere are many things which are a bad idea. Microwaving a baked potato from your bath is one. Attempting to fly by jumping off a tall building is another. Sex on fire? Well, in the abstract it sounds like a very passionate sort of a thing, and it's a cool metaphor, but the reality is probably less thrilling and more astonishingly painful than this song would suggest. I mean, yes you wouldn't be short of blankets to help smother the flames, and I suppose there would already be some rolling around, which helps too...but those hot coals are going to play havoc with your nether regions.

I suppose if you're having sex on an electrical fire it might be marginally better, in that you can just try and keep off the glowing bits, but in the main it's definitely a good idea to keep sex and fire as far apart as possible.

Thankfully, music and reality do not intersect all that much, even in the most street-level of songs, so, no matter what sordid offers are coming from sundy Kings of Leon, we can all rest easy in our beds, safe from any form of inflamation (beyond the usual, obv).

Now...I'm sure there's something else I'm supposed to be talking about...

...erm...

Oh! Yes! The music!

Well, it's nice to hear that the Kings have resumed their on-off relationship with Mr Tune. Much as I liked their last album, there were moments where the yelping overtook the melody, leaving it twisted and bruised on the floor.

This is fine, and certain bands have made a living doing nothing BUT yelp (hello Gallows!), but Caleb Followill has a brilliant, pleading voice which is always shown in its best light when carried aloft by a nice tune.

Of course, I could be wrong. I have never heard him rap, for example.

Also, it really does suit the band to put the big rock production on their songs. What they lose in gritty immediacy, they gain in sleek, driving force, and this will stand them in good stead as they make their bid to become stadium rock gods and stuff.

In summary: DO play the song, but DO NOT act upon any of the metaphors.

Sleep tight!

i love the kings o' leon. i think they get massively better with each album, so this one will be a stonker, an' no mistake, despite that my girlfriend thinks the opposite, but what does she know anyway?! (that was just for you darlin, 'cos i know you will read this, i mean, i will make you....). this is a cool song, tho not their best by far, but i believe supersonic stadium rock god-dom is a-beckonin'.

.....is it just me, or is that no matter what caleb does, he still looks like a 13 yr old girl, just with, you know, facial hair......?
