Little Jackie - 'The World Should Revolve Around Me'

Little JackiePhilosophical conundrums are always fun to debate, aren't they? There's the one about the tree falling in the forest, and whether, if there is no-one there to hear it, it still makes a sound (it does, but it's the sound of a giant wooden mouth yelling "OW! MY ROOTS!").

And there's the one about what the sound of one hand clapping might be (it's a self-defeating question, that one. If the hand is clapping, the sound it makes is a clapping sound. Otherwise it's one hand NOT clapping. DUH!).

Then there's the one where you get to debate on who is the most foolish, a fool or a man who follows a fool (answer: it depends, is the man making a documentary? Or lost?).

We can now add the following little gem to that list, courtesy of Little Jackie (or Imani Coppola, as she is known to seasoned chart-watchers like me): "what came first, the chicken nugget or the egg mcmuffin?"

(Apologies for the VH1 branding, the official video has the official swearing in.)

Now, the reason Imani has found the time to come up with such a taxing query is that she's just been dumped. And, like everyone in this situation, the ending of her troubled relationship has caused her to question her role on Earth, and ask searching questions about why bad things happen to good people.

Her answers might surprise anyone who is unfamiliar with human psychology. Instead of the classic 'what did I do wrong?', she has opted for the exact opposite, a form of projection in which she puts herself at the centre of her universe, and then measures everyone else by their ability to recognise how important she is, or otherwise.

It's the same mental conflict which fuels the performance of almost every lead singer in the world, and most lead guitarists too, that drive to make everyone pay for the bad stuff which has happened to you, by having to pay attention to how amazingly strong, sexy and talented you have become. Or, to sum it up in two words, Robbie Williams.

Luckily, Imani IS a lead singer, so it's fine for her to be like this, and she's developed a sense of humour about her own condition. Either that or she's writing a satirical song about people who suffer from this kind of megalomania. In any case, it's a great song, full of sunshine funk, and kind of like an Amy Winehouse who has decided to be optimistic, but not unrealistically so.

Oh, and to answer her question. The Egg McMuffin has been a part of the McDonalds menu since 1972. It is 36 years old. The Chicken McNugget has only been around since 1980, making it a relatively (*cough*) poultry 28.

Sorry. That was uncalled for.
