Go:Audio

There are some rites of passage that all up and coming showbiz people have to go through before they can truly say they have made it in this business we call show. Like your first Live Lounge session, or the first time you sell out Glasgow Barrowlands, or your first go on Later With Jools Holland.

Of course, the daddy of them all was always your first appearance on Top of the Pops, that was the one you could always tell your granny about. But seeing as this is no longer available, here's one which will do NOTHING to impress any members of your family. The ChartBlog Slightly Annoying Email Questionnaire.

Here's how it went for indie newbies Go:Audio, whose singer James could possibly be said not to have tried massively hard to enthrall us all with his amazing answers.*

And he is CLEARLY not using email either, the CHEATER...

==========================

QUESTION 1: Where are you (as this is email, feel free to lie if you are somewhere dull)?
JAMES: At the present time we are doing interviews, including this one, at SonyBMG HQ.

QUESTION 2: What are you doing (see question 1)?
JAMES: Writing on this paper.

QUESTION 3: Tell us all about your new product...
JAMES: Our new product is the single 'Made Up Stories', which is about your girlfriend going out and cheating on you, then giving you a load of made-up stories.

QUESTION 4: How long did it take you to type the answer to question 3?
JAMES: 1.34 seconds.

QUESTION 5: Really? Did it require any specialist training?
JAMES: Yes, shorthand.

QUESTION 6: Are you looking forward to a future where computers can just read your brainwaves rather than expecting you to use a keypad?
JAMES: Yes. That would be nice

QUESTION 7: What would you like to be wearing right now?
JAMES: A pair of sunglasses would be really cool.

QUESTION 8: And what are you actually wearing?
JAMES: Just some socks.

QUESTION 9: What would you like the next person you see to be wearing?
JAMES: A Christmas hat.

QUESTION 10: Why do you think Donald Duck wears a tunic but no trousers?
JAMES: Because he's one cool duck.

QUESTION 11: What musical training do you have? Do you play any interesting instruments?
JAMES: The standard training which involves drinking a lot of beer and blowing a harmonica.

QUESTION 12: If you and your most musical mates all had your instruments in front of you right now, but were instructed to play a song, any song, right now without conferring, what would it be?
JAMES: An easy Oasis song most probably, using the standard chords.

QUESTION 13: Now be honest, did you cheat on question 12?
JAMES: No way.

QUESTION 14: What was the last thing you posted on your own message board?
JAMES: The last thing posted was about our single, and how to pre-order it.

QUESTION 15: That's nice...
JAMES: Yes it is.

QUESTION 16: Does this little bit of admin make you yearn for a simpler life without personal assistants?
JAMES: We're actually getting our assistant to write this right now.

QUESTION 17: One of the answers to these questions won't be interesting enough. Which one would you like to change?
JAMES: Question 4. To 1.36 seconds.

========================================

And here is that song, 'Made-Up Stories', which is out now...

*Although they are lovely answers, as I'm sure you'll agree.

    Glasgow Barrowlands is AWESOME! yayyy!

  • Comment number 2.

Does anybody else think the lead singer looks a lot like Roy from Scouting For Girls?

Anywho, I actually quite like this song, but I think he should have tried harder with his answers. Good interview skills can earn you more fans. The funnier the band the more likely people are to tune in a watch them on something.

    Tell me about it! ;-)

I hadn't heard of these before reading this last night, yet within ten mins of finishing the article two people recommended them to me as up and coming, and later that night I saw their advert for the first time...
That wasn't as good in the retelling, but it weirded me out a little. Chartblog of the future..?

Could explain some of McFly's success. Their music may not be to everybody's taste, but they do come across as nice, down to earth people in their interviews.
