Dizzee Rascal - 'Flex'

Dizzee RascalIt's got to be the hardest thing in the world, writing a sexy song. Not least because everyone has very different standards of what sexy is (which is good news for those of us who aren't Justin Timberlake / Girls Aloud / someone you actually fancy), but also because some people really like to hear what's going on in person's mind when they're thinking saucy thoughts, and other people find that creepy (seriously, Craig David? KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!).

And here's Dizzee Rascal, a man with a fondness for expressing the very real realness of the reality he experiences in his real life to such an intense degree that some of his songs come across like a direct plug from his eyes to his microphone via a rhyming dictionary. Surely his idea of sexy is going to be a little hard to take for a lot of people?

Well, maybe. Certainly listening to all the stuff about watching girls dance is as ridiculous as it always sounds when you're sitting at a desk in an open-plan office, attempting to get to grips with a song which is squarely aimed at the clubs. Thankfully the video helps here, as it's not your average 'My Big Sexy Night Out by Rapper X (Aged 12)', and contains guest appearances from Mike Skinner, Reggie 'Friend Of ChartBlog' Yates, and features Dizzee pretending to be Simon Cowell.

Anyway, this is definitely one of those songs where you can let the bits of lyric which don't sit right with your personal situation sort of wash past in the fun of the ska brass, the winding synth bass, and the general party atmos. I mean having fun is a kind of reality too, right? There's no reason why discussing real stuff should be restricted to just ugly things.

In fact, in a weird kind of way - and if you're in the right mood - you can totally ignore whether this is supposed to be sexy or not, and just let the whole "slow, fast, up, down, bring it back" section at as the soundtrack to some minor piece of housework...like the hoovering. I tell you, NOTHING is realer than doing the hoovering...
