Holloways

It's always toughest, in the self-centred swan-bicker we call showbusiness, for the people who attempt to display any kind of conscience about what they do. It doesn't matter if the political cause is animal rights, human rights or left-handed rights, all you need to do is claim that you're against bad stuff and in favour of good stuff, and snarky moaners will examine your every comment and quip for proof that you're a hypocrite.

Alfie HollowaysAnd that hardly seems fair. After all, no-one goes up to famous people who DON'T care about big issues and examine their lives for proof that they're secretly buying Fair Trade bananas, or that they bought the Girls Aloud/Sugababes song for Comic Relief. But all it takes is for Madonna to adopt a child and people are lining up to complain that she didn't adopt a child from somewhere else, or that she's just doing it to show off, or because Brangelina did it, or that it doesn't count as nice because she's not REALLY looking after her new baby, cos she's got a nanny...etc etc...

Meanwhile, at the other end of the celebrity spectrum, like WAAAAAAY down at the other end, we find rough-and-tumble indie minstrels the Holloways doing their bit for the British tourist trade, and trying to encourage us all to take our holidays in the UK, rather than taking those environmentally-unfriendly cheap flights abroad.

Straightaway you can hear people (more than two, less than many, is my best guess) start to wonder what the hell a touring indie band are doing telling US off for taking a well-earned break when THEY have to fly everywhere for their job. Surely the real climate criminals are the touring musicians, not holidaymakers, right?

Weeeelll, kinda. In any case, it seemed a good idea to get the band's singer Alfie on the phone to talk the whole thing through. So that's exactly what we did...a bit...

    the holloways are immense.
i got their album around christmas, and yeah it covers a lot of issues that will get some people talking.
    but what's wrong with that?
music should be about everything and anything.
their songs make you think about life a lt more than some.
...and they even give hypocrites something to do in life.
    what more do you want?
