Jack Penate - 'Torn On The Platform'
There are very few mysteries left in modern music, with the possible exception of what on earth Pharrell Williams has got to look so smug about these days. But this fella is at the centre of one of the last great unsolved puzzles - namely why does Jack Penate insist on doing his shirt up to the very top button? It's quite a tight shirt too, and with all that jigging about, he can't be comfortable in there. So why do it? It doesn't look THAT good...does it?
Actually, there's another slight query I have about this song...How come, when the beginning is so lovely, all languid, softy-strummed chords, and dramatic scene-setting emotion from Mr Buttonup, does he suddenly break into his last song 'Spit At Stars' and then proceed to sing an entirely different song over the top?
AND, wasn't 'Spit At Stars' basically 'Happy Hour' by the Housemartins anyway? And didn't 'Happy Hour' have a funny animated video with plasticine men in it, which is a bit like the puppety-animation in the video to this song?

And the biggest mystery of all, how come none of this matters? Is that chord progression (I-iii-IV-V, for the musos) so addictive that you could get any band to play it in any style - from Scooch to Slipknot - and it would still sound like THE FUN and THE ADDICTIVE all rolled together?
Well probably. Now, SORT THAT BLOODY SHIRT OUT, PENATE!
