Fall Out Boy - 'The Take Over, The Break's Over'

Just JackI've been watching Pete Wentz for quite a while now. Not like some of you might have been watching Pete Wentz, y'know, with your face pressed up right against your posters and your tongue out. No, I've been watching the way he plays his bass guitar, and I've come to a quite startling conclusion. There's something really odd about where his plucking hand is. Compared to other bass-players, it's WAY up the strings, like around where the neck of his bass meets the body. It almost looks like he can't really play the bass at all, and is just sort of posing about with a guitar. A guitar that he is holding as if he has no idea which end he is supposed to blow into.

Now, I know he's had his bass specially modified so that it's lighter than they normally are, just so that he can throw himself around the stage with proper abandon, so it might be something to do with that. Or it could be that this is simply how Pete Wentz plays the bass, with his shirt cuffs.

Not that any of this idle musing should be allowed to detract from this song, which is total '80s pop heaven in '00s rock clothing. It has verses like 'No Good Advice' by Girls Aloud (or 'My Sharona' by the Knack, if you're of a knee-jerk persuasion with regards to Cheryl and co), and the chorus is one of those great big anthemic FOB-jobs where Patrick Stump's tonsils get stretched from here to Saturn and back again.

It's the same trick they used on 'This Ain't A Scene...', having a radical change of pace for the chorus, but in reverse, so that the funky verse gives way to a slower-bigger-huger chorus, rather than one which is faster-bigger-huger, you see?

The intention seems to be to drag unwilling butts out onto the dance-floor to throw some serious shapes, and then to rouse the owners of said butts into some kind of massive uprising, using deliberately stirring music...a massive uprising led by a bloke with a floppy fringe who looks like he can't play the bass (but I'm sure he can really).

Which is kind of an unorthodox plan, but you'd be a fool to bet against it working...

Haha I really like this song...but I think Pete is a bit of a poser. And he looks really emo. And his dog is cuter than he is! But Pete's whole name is weird....Peter Lewis Kingston Wentz III! Wow. I think Patrick is sweeter. And more talented. Even though he looks kinda geeky...bless 'im! AND YAY YOU DONE A REVIEW OF TEENAGERS! I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU! ;)

Eugh, I feel like one of those kids in the video for this song (before they decide that they like the 'changed' Fall Out Boy) but I really can't stand their new stuff. Two or three years ago when I first heard them they were quite good, but this sounds nothing like them. I really can't imagine them playing their old songs like "Dead On Arival" and "³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖsick At Space Camp" any more, they seem like a compleatly different band, and not for the better IMO.

    Jeeez you people!

Anyway.FoB have something special. Patricks voice, the level of song writing, the lyrical content everything, when you mix it all together it gives you something very special. FoB are a rare breed a large mainstream band (and before any gets off at me there pop, pop means popular I'm a diehard fan but I have no reservations in saying there pop ok get over it and stop being music snobs) but at the same time they have a very close and solid connection with their fanbase. It's amazing how much this band do for their fans and the amount of crap they put up with. Pete is amazing at writing lyrics, sure FoB arn't going to be the biggest band ever but in my heart they certainly will be. There amazing live, the amount of energy in a preformance will blow your mind.

Yes I know I'm late in commenting and my writting is crappy but its 4am and tbqh idk at the moment.

How about a post on Cobra Starship - ya know ya wanna ~
