Mutya Buena - 'Real Girl'
What's standard protocol upon leaving a hugely successful girl band? Oh yeah, make everyone forget about them by bringing out a MEGA comeback single, followed by a MEGA comeback album, plus MEGA tabloid coverage, achieving global success in the process. That's the Robbie way. Shame Mutya's sticking to the Sugababe plan of action, following in Siobhan Donaghy's footsteps into the realm of 'should-be-bigger former girlband star'...
Don't get me wrong - 'Real Gir' is a decent pop song, with some lavish Shirley Bassey-style strings, which have been pinched from Lenny Kravitz, but rescued from sounding like a car-ad soundtrack by Mutya's distinctive vocals. But the problem is that it's not nearly as good as anything by the Sugababes - it lacks the massive chorus, the pizazz, and most importantly, the downright filth that the 'Babes get away with so stylishly.
While the sentiment about being yourself is admirable, no amount of retro soul stylings are going to convince us that Buena is the new Winehouse, and despite her Sugababe replacement being a jailbird, I'd rather stick with them any day.

Mutya Buena's new single is FAB!! Can't believe how good she looks since leaving the bad however miss her in the sugerbabes!!!
I don't like this song. I think it's boring, it has nothing to it.
Mutya, you should have never left the 'babes! Serves you right. Oh, and by the way, I thought you said you had left the band to have more time to spend with your kid. Funny, they all say that, and what do they do?? Go solo! What crap.
SUGABABES, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sev here and Katie on smile. It would be lovely if you could avoid making me look like a nutter this time pleeeeaaaaase..
[Hey everyone! Look! A nutter! - Fraser]
Don't you know you should never make a crazy angry?!?!!
['nutter', 'a crazy'...Ladies and Gentlemen I give you the psychology undergraduate! - Fraser]
That's it! You're goin' down!
[Terribly grumpy, you teens... - Fraser]
Dude, the way you say teens makes it sound like an insult! Are you like INSULTING me?! Gonna tell the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ on you.. :P
[That's OK. They're pretty grumpy too. - Fraser]
Mutya Buena is just wicked! She was ma fave Sugababe n i hope dat her single n album will b a HUUUUGE (yeah, i mean it) success! + i´m luvin her style in every sense of the word!
OMG i cannot believe what Laura S has to say about Mutya Buena, she is a true star and coming from the heart, she is amazing and no matter what this ONE review and ONE poor reviewer with bad taste has to say, Mutya Buena is BOSS.
XOX
I THINK MUTYA BUENA IS THE BEST UK ARTIST SINCE AMY...THE SUGABABES ARE NOTHING WITHOUT HER. i think keisha and heidi need to cover their backs becasue mutya MADE the sugababes. EASY was a crap single and mutya has a distinct voice. i think real girl is great single but i know she has alot more to offer...
Luv it xxxx
The best part about this song is when it ends and you can put something else on!! Muaha, being overly harsh is fun!
Excuse me, this is great! You obviously don't recognise talent *mutter mutter*...
But it is a bit evil to say you are leaving a band to spend time with your baby and then release a comeback single. Hmm...
i don't like this song coz its gay
[Happy, y'mean? Joyful? Carefree? Which definition of the word are you going for? And if you don't know..DON'T USE IT... - Fraser]
When I first heard this song I really liked it, but after listening to Kravitz' 'It Ain't Over Till It's Over', hasn't Mutya just done the exact same thing but with a slight alteration to the vocals? Glad it did well though because it's a good song and her album is suprisingly good for an ex girl band member.
