Klaxons - 'Gravity's Rainbow'

klaxons_100.jpgPicture the scene, it's a hot afternoon in the advanced maths class and 'Sir' has decided to lighten the mood by putting the radio on.

Sir: Now class, listen to this song for a moment. As you can see, it's a nice, snappy, upbeat little number, with an urgent piano, uh, motif, and strident drum-work. Listen class, can you hear how - in this breakdown section - the guitar seems to fold in on itself in a very...well...can anyone think of the right word for what the guitar does?

Pupil: Is it 'squitty' Sir?

Sir: Yes, Bagshot! Squitty is the perfect word for...hang on, what's this they're singing? "Come with me, we'll travel to infinity"? INFINITY? The HOOLIGANS! Can anyone tell me what is wrong with the statement "we'll travel to infinity"? No? Jenkinsop? Bluefish? ANYONE?

*sigh* Useless rabble. Well, it's just that infinity is a term used to describe the very endlessness of all matter. You take any number, no matter how high, and you can always add a one to it, or a two, or the same number again. It's not a place in itself, and to suggest that it is somewhere you can actually visit is terribly misleading and quite wrong.

Pupil: Sir! Sir! Are you sure it's not just a deliberately over-dramatic lyric, suggesting a massive adventure beyond the listener's wildest dreams?

Sir: HOW DARE YOU SULLY MY CLASSROOM WITH YOUR UNSCIENTIFIC FILTH? NOW GET OUT!

(Sir switches radio off)
