Cold War Kids - 'Hang Me Up To Dry'

Cold War KidsInitially coming on colder than 80s post-punk (a distant relative of your wayward friend emo), Cold War Kids' first proper single belies their frosty name and morphs into a gem as warm and cuddly as the flannel shirts we're sure the band are very fond of wearing.

However, this shirt, while comfy, contains the stains of one too many whiskeys, a smudge apparently muddier than Jade Goody's name, and some worn patches which can only come from over-exposure to twitch-tastic piano bashing.

Imagine the Strokes getting friendly with the Walkmen, and then lending the microphone to a paranoid heartwrenched blues singer. It's that kind of thing. Wayward, but precise.

Rather than the bright plastic oddity of Klaxons - sure to be cast aside like last week's Lego, by the way - Cold War Kids' sound comes coated in a sepia sentiment that makes them seem like an old favourite already.

This tune really gets you! The planky-planky off key piano bits, the loaded vocals, and what is that funky scratchy noise coming from?

This tune is gonna be massive!
