Double initials....
Just promised on air that I would put Keen Gelly's great e-mail on to the blog. It follows. Incredibly busy show tonight. Great theme suggested by Keith in Netherdallachy...
Evenin' BB + team ...
Great show last night. GIO listeners once again coming up with the goods ... what an astute lot there are out there!
So to tonight, and identical initials.
My Biggie
* '(Dance the) Messaround'... Chubby Checker (a true 'feel good' number this one ... sure to get yourself (+ even Babs ... if working) shimmying round that small studio of yours!) Any chance of a web cam?!
Close second
* 'F1 - 11' ... Sigue Sigue Sputnik (neat song, but a frightening example of the power of hype!)
* 'Nasty nasty' ... 999 (under-rated and under-played ... bit of a punk gem this one)
* 'Hand in glove' ... Sandie Shaw (after much pleading by Morrisey, made a brief comeback to the charts in 1984 with this version of The Smith's first single)
Worth a shout
* 'Ant Music' Adam Ant (twin drum beat, laden with hooks and visually splendid ... what's not to like!?)
* 'The Beaten Generation' The The (highest chating single from another sadly under-rated outfit. Johnny Marr from The Smiths featured in this one)
* 'Girl' Tiny Tim (sorry BB, but he keeps cropping up ... know you'd love to give this one a chance !!!???)
* 'Blinded by the light' Manfred Mann (to this day have never understood the words to this one ... anyone else?)
* 'Wouldn't it be nice' Beach Boys (always nice to hear this classic)
* 'Love don't live here anymore' Rose Royce (memories of last song dances in The Savoy in Glasgow!)
Please don't GIO ...
* 'Dancing on a Saturday night' Barry Blue (more TOTP memories with this one. Blue satin (enormous) flared suit, enormous platform shoes and enormous hair .. 'nuff said)
* 'Save your love' Rene & Ronata (yet another TOTP classic ... who could forget the Romeo & Juliet video that accompanied it?)
Stretching it a bit I guess
* 'When the kids are united' Sham Sixty-nine (more TOTP memories here ... of an audience that were obviously wondering what was hitting them, and a couple of punks down the front who were the only ones that did !!!)
I know its already been suggested, however it would be reeeeeeeeeeally good to have a 'Top of the Pops' memories theme night soon! Have a feeling it could lead to one of the best shows yet!!!!!!!
Keep it different BB ...
(a.k.a. Kene Gelly)
Top of the Pops theme sounds like a must as several people have now e-mailed to ask for it. Hopefully we can do it next week..
