At 8th Nov 2010, kruador wrote:@pebbens: Sky control the EPG service information broadcast on 12441V, which carries 7 out of the 9 red button streams available on satellite. Until they carry the Freesat EPG information as well, and presumably also the MHEG data, Freesat boxes cannot select those streams.
This is also the reason that a number of other free-to-air channels are not yet available on Freesat. Sky claim it's taking them some time to reorganize it, to ensure that it's interoperable with their own boxes.
There could also be exclusivity arrangements with Sky, as there are for 4hd, Fiver, Five USA. However, I believe the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's Charter prevents this - all channels *should* be free-to-air.
You might find that you can still view the stream you're after if you use the Other Channels feature to manually select 12441 MHz (or 12.441 GHz), polarization V, symbol rate 27500 Kbaud (or 27.5 Mbaud), FEC 2/3.

At 15th Nov 2010, VeniVediVocali wrote:If kruador is right then the follow on question is simple. Who pays for 12441V? If it is the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ, then the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ need to give Sky an ultimatum, either fix it so that Sky and Freesat can use it together, or Sky will lose access.
The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ can then put a note on Red Button on Sky that until Sky fix it they will need to purchase a Freesat box to get the Red button.
If the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ does pay for 12441V then there is a serious question regarding why this has been allowed to go on for so long.
Even more simple Sky can find the capacity elsewhere and broadcast the interactive streams for their own subscribers that way no one loses out. They could even encrypt those streams.
I'll pick this up with the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Trust.

At 15th Nov 2010, JDenton wrote:Dear All,
The reason we do not have the same level of service on Freesat is simply that we do not have the available resource to build these services for that platform.
We are constantly reviewing that situation and indeed, we have started to invest effort in delivering Red Button content to Freesat via IP. So those of you with a Freesat HD box that has Internet can see some of these services now.
In regards to delivering video services to Freesat, I am hopeful that if the resource remains available that we could have something live for broadcast viewers in Q1/Q2 - with so many changes currently underway within ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ I would have preferred to wait until that date was certain before acknowledging it. However, I can understand your frustration at seeing (or not seeing) extra video on Freesat and so I hope this explains why and please bear with us until we deliver this.
We have no plans currently to deliver the News Multiscreen onto Freesat as part of this work.
Please do remember for all Sport fans there is up to 6 streams already available on Freesat for you to enjoy.
