Best of the Bunch: Bestival
What a weekend - The Asian Network decamped to the Bestival on mass and, I tell you, it was the best end to the Summer Tour we could have had!
We performed to an unbelievable audience of aliens, pirates, cartoon characters… and no I wasn't going crazy - one of the unique elements to Bestival is the fancy dress. Every where I looked there were people dressed up to the max - even Nihal caught the festival fever and was properly pirated up!
Bobby Friction and Nihal's set was a high energy mash-up of everything - House, Bhangra, Trance, Hip Hop, Dubstep, Drum & Bass - they played the lot! Nathan "Flutebox" Lee and Pathaan warmed the stage up beautifully with the Asian Network visuals setting the mood properly for the audio carnage that was to come. After Bobby and Nihal, D-Code, Soldgie and I took to the decks but where flummoxed by the Beastie Boys who started their set the same time as ours. The tent emptied before I started my first tune but then...
...EVERYONE came back, and I mean everyone! The place was packed and slightly surreal with an assortment of crazy folk and Bestival goers bouncing to our Drum & Bass, Electro and Breaks.
Soon that craziness infected the stage as D-Code and I lost it and were running around all over the place, jumping off stage and jumping up and down so much the needles skipped while Soldgie was in the mix! And then there was a very surreal moment after I jumped off stage into the crowd and re-surfaced on the decks with a finger puppet of a rabbit on my finger. Its quite amazing watching 2000 plus people bouncing to a finger puppet….The next day was spent mooching around the festival, eating and watching acts like the Gossip. On the way home we all agreed that Bestival was the best festival we'd all been to. It seemed to be populated by beautiful girls (and my girlfriend was quick to point out the fit blokes too!). And as someone in a random field said, "if you're not beautiful, it's alright because you can always dress up!"
Roll on the Summer tour 2008!
As for Bestival next year, who knows? Maybe we'll up our game and there'll be two finger puppets...
