Hi Bruce, I've just spent 4 weeks doing some volunteer work with the Hopi Natives of Arizona, USA. I stayed with a family in the village of Polacca, at the base of 1st Mesa, for the duration.
I thought you'd like to know that I took the Tribe, 3 series DVD box set with me so I could show it to the family and any other locals who were interested. The Hopi, Tewa and Navajo people I met and worked with are trying to balance a modern way of life with their traditional beliefs and they found the series fascinating and inspiring. They thank you for making the documentaries and wish you all the best with future programs. I personally got a buzz out of watching them watch it. On one evening alone we watched 3 episodes back to back, they were so immersed!
I'll be heading back to the UK around mid January and will be putting together a talk about the Hopi and the challenges they face fitting into the modern world around them, which will hopefully feature at a couple of festivals next summer.
Thanks again for your time and effort in putting together a truly memorable documentary series and good luck with the rest of your trip down the Amazon - sounds awesome.
Not sure if this is what blogs are about but am actually replying to your email... I wonder if you could pass on any info about the volunteering you did please? I'm always looking for opportunities to get involved with local cultures and have been fortunate enough to live with some amazing people during my travels too, but I'm sure you agree there's always more people to meet!
I just wanted to wish everyone on the team a Happy Christmas and New Year - you sure pick interesting places to spend it!
Most of all I wanted to wish Matt a full a speedy recovery and warn him that its flipping freezing back in the UK.
Take care everyone.
