As regular listeners will know I have spent what seems like most of this year with a bad elbone and bad luck due to the universe hating me. I'm excited to say that it looks as though the universe might be turning its hateful attentions elsewhere and this week my elbone has felt a little better, giving me some time to catch up on this and that and even on a couple of occasions, the other.

One of the things I've been meaning to do for a very long time is send thankyou notes for some of the letters and artistic gifts we occasionally receive here at the Castle but some of them had no addresses so I thought I'd give them a mention here. This blue furry bat version of myself was made by Nat Miller, who also made a Joe bat. I used to dislike bats but since receiving the one Nat made, I love them so much I now chase after them hoping for a kiss. Batmen are another matter. I will have nothing to do with Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, George Clooney and even Adam West who are all tedious tight wearing ponces.

This Stephen! tee shirt was a gift from Steve Hunt, who uploaded his design to MySoti where it was printed and sent out to us. The tee shirt even features the 'Onstronomay Oohdah' catchphrase that was part of another piece of juvenilia read out the day Stephen was born. Thanks Steve, they're great and make me think we should talk more about Stephen! on the show. Or has Stephen! been killed off?

Speaking of killing things off, thanks very much to James Alberti for the wonderful cartoon of Boggins which was left for me after my gig at the 100 Club last week. It's weird how exactly he has captured the essence of our smelly friend.

Anyway this is the tip of the iceberg of stuff people are kind enough to send in but I thought I'd get that tip out there while I had the opportunity. Hope you're all very well. Oh and sorry about the podcast problems this week. These things happen but I nearly had a coronary in my shed when I was listening on Monday night. My Bob Dylan Christmas song started and suddenly I was blasted with Guantanamo Bay style white noise and spilt wine all over myself. Luckily Boggins was there to lick it all off. Good times, as Justin Lee Collins would almost certainly say.

I love you byeee!

Brillskillz - we love sending you stuff.
Maybe we should all (TwitSquadron, BlackSquadron) have a 'craft morning' on Saturday to fill the void created by your absence?
    Miss you already...

Even though A&J are away this weekend, look out for a special one off podcast that will be available from midday on Saturday. It contains a brilliant new song so get your downloading fingers at the ready.

An early podcast? James, guys, you spoil us. XXX OOO

Adam still looks so young and ridiculously handsome. And hairy. But in a good way.

  • Comment number 5.

    Mmmmmm, beard.
You can never have too much Dr Buckles beard action.
    *goes away to lie down*

Moving (reluctantly) away from Buckles' beard and onto the subject of Stephenage - it's still very much alive and well in the A&Jverse.

When we came down to LonnDonn for the Roundhouse palaver, I let out my first ever live-action 'Stephen!' whilst waiting for the lift at the Chalk Farm underground and immediately got a 'Just coming!' Turned out to be not only another A&J listener, but she was also a Song Wars competition entrant *and* we share the same nickname (though she spells it Ru rather than Roo).

Stephenage is still bringing listeners together!

Does anyone else think the t-shirt photo looks like someone's photoshopped Adam's head onto a body? Clearly it isn't though unless the top photo is also subject to trickery, same friendly mole on the left side of the neck.

The Bogginator looks just as I imagined, perhaps slightly cleaner (needs some poo matted into his hair from rolling around in it).

Good luck with the elbone Adam!

Don't forget Val Kilmer or he'll cry!

    Great post!

Save Boggins, indeed. Can't you see how sweet he is?

  • Comment number 10.

I wonder if the new song will be sushi related?

As a great Brrritish milkman, I have to call on my 500 (lovely!) customers to recieve payment. Of these 500 truly great souls, approximately 140 of them own dogs, and of those dogs, 20 are Boggins(es).
You CANNOT, and MUST NOT kill Boggins. Where is the fun, if you do not occasionally have to wipe smelly dog-gob off your crotch, or feel the need to wipe your hands on some grass after accidentally stroking some freshly poo-rolled fur? Save Boggins, I say.

    SAVE BOGGINS!!

'whinger_assassin' - I totally see what you mean about Adam's head looking photoshopped on! Alas, as you say, no trickery there - mearly the definition of Adam's beard that causes such an illusion!!

'Tumescence' - I enjoyed reading your post about milkman related Boggins(es) encounters. And I whole-heartedly agree - save Boggins! He might be smelley and a bit of a pest but clearly, he has so much love to give!!!

    xx

    RAH! Excellent elbone news.
How awful it would have been if the Dylan white noise interruption had caused further elbone injury in the panic to turn the pod down, instead of wine spillage – agh!
On the topic of Stephenage, I have never heard one and I suspect it’s easier in big cities with bigger crowds! I am too scared to belt one out in the street, for sure. However, this week my workplace has been involved in a lunchtime quiz every day on the local Big British Castle radio. I am meant to be part of the possee, cheering in the background, but as the days have gone by the temptation to break ranks and yell a rebellious ‘STEPHEN!’ amidst the cheering has got stronger and stronger. It’s really a pointless urge because (a)I won’t know if anyone has responded with a ‘JUST COMING!’, because they’ll be elsewhere listening to the radio and (b)I’d get told off. But then I think how impressed I would be if a surprise ‘STEPHEN!’ popped out on local radio at me and I start to want to do it again in case any Squadron are listening. Today’s the last day of the quiz….I don’t think it’s going to happen. Is it the thought that counts?

    Boggins out.

That smiley happy growl is nothing but a smokescreen for a sinister and malicious deviant who is preying on the weak and waiting for his moment to strike.
Mark my words, Boggins will go too far and the Castle walls will ring with the screams of innocent kittens (like tiny cat bells).

Oh Adam wiz zeez pictures you're weely spoilink uz!

  • Comment number 16.

What a lovely blog post. I love Adam.
That drawing makes me even feel fondly about Boggins.
    But I hate him really.

  • Comment number 17.

I think Boggins might be living over the fence from me. Whenever I take the wheelie bins out the noise alerts a small dog which then hurls itself at the fence, making all sorts of mind curdling gurgles and splutters. But it does seem very keen to say hello to me, which is kind of sweet. I cannot smell the dog from where I am, so can't confirm if it is indeed Boggins.

Sounds like him though. I'm sure he said 'I like your recycling bin' to me the other day. If he does a poo in our garden, however, I will have to kill him.

  • Comment number 18.

I had some reverse Stephenage a couple of months ago at a Crosby Stills & Nash gig, when I replied "Just coming!" to someone else's shout of "Stephen!" No response from anyone else in the crowd though. ;)

    SAVE BOGGINS!

  • Comment number 19.

Glad you guys like my Boggins drawing, i smiled a lot as i was drawing him!!! ;)

  • Comment number 20.

I work for a charity (not a dogs one, sorry, or I would try and help re-home Boggins) and the whole Boggins business has caused me a problem – I now cannot hear or say the phrase ‘raffle tickets’ without hearing Boggins in my head and getting a giggle attack. How can I de-couple these perfectly innocent fundraising items from this stinky dog and his ludicrous voice?

  • Comment number 21.

Don't suppose you took any pictures of the chill cake? :)

  • Comment number 22.

    Adam, he hairy man.

ps- please kill Boggins he makes me feel ill.

  • Comment number 23.

recently went on trip to Mexico.. and spent many airport waiting hours catching up on the podcasts.. looked like a right wally crying with laughter by myself, but worth it.

re: Boggins. distressing through headphones, perhaps less so when slobbering through a radio in the corner of the room.

massively impressed with listeners own song contributions!

I enjoy putting Black Squadron call-outs on Twitter on a saturday morn x
