Truncated links

A number of Action Network users have been telling us in the last few days that they've been having trouble adding weblinks. When they try to save a link, they get the message that the URL is too long.
Strange to say, this is actually a result of a project we undertook over the past few months to tidy up all of the software code which does the behind-the-scenes work to bring the Action Network site to the public. I'll avoid boring you with the details, but it transpires that none of us noticed that we were being a little over-zealous in making sure that all the forms which enable you to add weblinks had been set to accept a maximum length of 50 characters. This is affecting the following features on the site: adding a weblink or organisation to issue or locaiton pages; adding a link to campaigns; setting the web address of a campaign.
We've now removed the offending character limit, so things should work normally again after the next code release - currently scheduled for 22nd May.
In the meantime, we're suggesting that if you want to add a weblink, you can use sites such as or which will provide you with a shorter link to the site which you want to add to Action Network.
Thanks go to Action Network user John Butler for alerting us to this problem.
