Our day out

The Action Network team probably spends too much time sitting at computers in the office. So yesterday we decided to put our words into action - and volunteered to do some work in the community.
We went to Battersea Park to work with a charity called - which uses gardening to help people with learning disabilities, mental health problems, sensory or physical disabilities or in rehabilitation.
Our job was to help maintain some of the beds in the Battersea herb garden - which meant tasks from weeding to clearing one entire bed of overgrown shrubs.
Fortunately, we had great weather - so it was more of a pleasure than a burden. But there was a serious side to the day too. Of course, many of us are involved in volunteering and civic activities individually. But yesterday gave us a chance to experience as a team what it is like to undertake the kinds of initiatives that Action Network users are doing all the time. We gained direct insight into how one of those initiatives is making a real impact. Thrive uses gardening therapeutically to help people in challenging situations build strength and competence to accomplish things.
We volunteered as part of a scheme for 成人快手 staff called Connecting with Communities. The idea is that not only do we give something to the communities in which we operate but we learn things which help us improve the services that we run. Thanks to Richard at Thrive for organising our day at Battersea.

I too have spent too much time sat at my computer. Each year I too get out to destroy the Himalayan Balsom that is taking over my local waterways and woodlands.
I have put a lot of energy into trying to establish a green gym to service my community. I will continue to try, (but I do spend too much time behind closed curtains).
My main fight is against cancer. I hope to use the power of the internet and education to support my fight.
I am certain that my network will supplement your network just fine.
All I need is for you 'Champions' to join the Flock.
