Michael Jackson : An unlikely pocket of time

Post categories:

Last night I came home from a delicious fish dinner, trying to mentally prepare for my first live tv appearance at this year's Glastonbury. I switched the telly feeling weirdly nostalgic for no reason at all - they were discussing the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ expenses debate on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ2, it was surreal to see the 1Xtra logo dangling in the background along with all the others. I had a private moment where I felt proud to be attached to the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's newest, freshest radio station and working with black music supremo Trevor Nelson...

Suddenly the feature was interrupted with the news that Michael Jackson had been rushed to hospital. I wasn't affected until she reavealed that it was a 'serious' cardiac arrest... I sat gobsmacked, alone infront of the telly and it lead into a feature on the turbulent current state in Iran. The world is in a sad state, I thought to myself, really seriously and I text an old friend who I was having some problems with and called a genuine truce. It was accepted and within a few more texts it was official that Michael Jackson had infact died... I went to bed confused and sad.

To everyone that is feeling weird, and reflective, and upset.. I know how ya feel! Thank you all so much for texts and memories on the show this morning. But on a personal note, I can't think of anyone that I'd rather experience such a show with then Trevor Nelson and a place I'd rather go to celebrate music then Glastonbury.

Wouldn't it be great if the show went on as planned at the 02 arena as a memorial service to the king of Pop. His close friends such as Madonna, Macca, Diana Ross the list is endless all perform on his stage.
The sales of the tickets sold would go towards a trust of Michael's- a great step towards healing the world.

So come on organisers lets celebrate the greatest artist on this planet.

    RIP Michael

I heard Trevor briefly on the Chris Moyles show just before he went on air and decided to check out the show on the iplayer. I don't fit even remotely into the target audience for the station, but i now want a DAB radio in my car.

The content was just right, the genuine reflection on Michael Jackson' s music and life. Both Trevor & Gemma hit the mark and the music through the show was superb.

    Thanks
