Hans and Sophie Scholl and the resistance leaflets

Description

Hans and Sophie Scholl had seen through the Nazi propaganda and were prepared to risk their lives by publishing and distributing leaflets demanding the return of freedom. They continued in their campaign until 1943, when they were spotted showering leaflets down the central stairwell at Munich University. They were subsequently arrested, tried and beheaded for high treason. That same year was a turning point in the war, when Germany and the Nazis began to see more defeat than victory and, gradually, resistance became more active.

Classroom Ideas

Students could design their own anti-Nazi leaflet. It could include reasons the Nazi regime is wrong, ideas for how to resist it, as well as slogans, testimonies from victims or victims鈥 neighbours, and images.
