To multiply \(237\) by \(4\) without using a calculator, you can set it out like this:
(\(4 \times 7 = 28\)) Put the \(8\) in the units place and carry the \(2\).
(\(4\times 3 = 12 \) then add \(2\) to get \(14\)) Put the \(4\) in the tens place and carry the \(1\).
(\(4 \times 2 = 8\) then add the \(1\) to get \(9\)). Put the \(9\) in the hundreds place.
Therefore \(237 \times 4 = 948\)
