What is a madeleine?

They are believed to have come from Commercy in Lorraine in the late 18th Century.

How do you make them?
You will need:
- 2 eggs (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.)
- 100g caster sugar (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.)
- 100g plain flour (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.)
- juice and zest of 1 lemon (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.)
- 鈥幝锯 tsp of baking powder (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.)
- 100g butter (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.), melted
You will need a baking tray. If you don't have a shell-shaped tray, use a standard cupcake baking tray instead.
Important note:
This recipe uses a hot oven so make sure you ask an adult to help you.
Method
Get an adult to preheat the oven (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) to 鈥庘200掳鈥嶤 or gas mark 6.
Whisk (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) the eggs and sugar in a bowl until frothy, then add the baking powder, flour, lemon juice and zest.
Get an adult to melt the butter and add this.
Leave to stand for twenty (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) minutes, then pour the mixture (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) into your tray, making twelve (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) to sixteen (Sorry, something went wrongCheck your connection, refresh the page and try again.) cakes.

Leave to cool down.
