Lord Williams was most recently the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon and an Under Secretary-General of the United Nations. He is also a former special adviser to two former UK Foreign Secretaries and special adviser to the United Nations Secretary General on the Middle East. A former editor at the 成人快手 World Service, Lord Williams has also been a Trustee of the 成人快手 World Service Trust. He is Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Chatham House (The Royal Institute of International Affairs).

Lord Williams will be the first 成人快手 Trustee to take on an international role as part of his responsibilities. This will reinstate a position on the 成人快手's governing body with specific oversight of the 成人快手's international public services. As the International Trustee, Lord Williams will chair a new 成人快手 Trust committee to monitor the 成人快手's international public services, namely the 成人快手 World Service, 成人快手 World News, and 成人快手 Monitoring.

Welcoming the appointment of Lord Williams, Lord Patten said:

"One of the 成人快手's core purposes is to bring the world to the UK and the UK to the world, and we know how vital the 成人快手 is to those around the world with limited access to impartial news services. Lord Williams brings a wide range of experience through senior public positions within the UK and internationally; he will be a tremendous asset to the Trust, particularly as the 成人快手 assumes funding responsibility for the World Service from 2014."

The 成人快手 faces many challenges in the coming years, as it adjusts to the new level of funding and I look forward to bringing my experience to this critical role. I am delighted that there is recognition of the need for a Trustee to be responsible for the 成人快手's international public services, which I believe are vitally important. I see an exciting future for the 成人快手's international public services as the 成人快手 takes on responsibility for directly funding the 成人快手 World Service."

Lord (Michael) Williams of Baglan is a former Under Secretary-General for the United Nations and Special Coordinator for Lebanon. He is Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Chatham House (The Royal Institute of International Affairs). He was made a life peer in 2010. Williams's past roles have included UK Special Envoy for the Middle East and Special Projects; Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on the Middle East and Special Adviser to Foreign Secretaries the Rt. Hon Jack Straw and the Rt. Hon Robin Cook. Between 2005 and 2009 Williams was a Trustee of the 成人快手 World Service Trust and between 1984 and 1992 he was an Editor and then Senior Editor at the 成人快手 World Service. With the announcement of his appointment, Lord Williams will be resigning the Labour party whip.

The role of International Trustee and creation of the Trust International Services Committee was announced as part of the 成人快手 review of governance published in July 2011.

The appointment is made for four years from 01 December 2011 to 30 November 2015.

Fees for Trust members are set by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The remuneration for this post is 拢35,935. 成人快手 Trustees currently take a voluntary reduction in their fees. The reduced level of fees is 拢32,952.

The 成人快手 Trust is the governing body of the British Broadcasting Corporation. There are 12 members of the 成人快手 Trust, which is led by the Chairman, Lord Patten of Barnes.
