Elan Closs Stephens appointed 成人快手 Trustee for Wales

The Government today announced that Elan Closs Stephens CBE has been appointed as the 成人快手 Trustee for Wales, with effect from 1 November 2010.

Elan Closs Stephens is replacing Janet Lewis-Jones, who will step down as Trustee for Wales on 31 October 2010, along with Chitra Bharucha, currently Vice Chairman of the Trust. Following Sir Michael Lyons' decision not to seek reappointment as 成人快手 Trust Chairman, the DCMS has today confirmed that the final decision on the appointment of the Vice Chairman will not be made until the new Chairman has been identified.

In addition, Trustees Diane Coyle, Alison Hastings, Patricia Hodgson and David Liddiment have been confirmed for a further four year term. Rotha Johnston and Mehmuda Mian will continue for another two years.

Welcoming the appointment, Sir Michael Lyons said:

"Elan will be a huge asset to the Trust, to the 成人快手 and to licence fee payers in Wales. She has a wealth of experience in media and the creative industries and in providing strategic leadership to cultural bodies. I am very pleased to welcome her to the board."

"The 成人快手 holds great public affection in Wales. It has helped strengthen Wales's national identity. Over the years it has provided information, entertainment and analysis. It has also provided opportunities for economic growth. It will be my job as part of the Trust to support, maintain and grow the 成人快手's contribution to Wales."

"I would like to thank both Chitra Bharucha and Janet Lewis-Jones for their contributions to the work of the Trust.

"As Vice Chairman - and acting Chairman for the first months of the Trust's life - Chitra has been instrumental in establishing the Trust and ensuring that licence fee payers' interests have been central to the Trustees' decisions. Janet has been a tireless advocate for Welsh licence fee payers and has brought wise counsel to the work of the Trust. I wish them both the very best for the future."

  1. Elan Closs Stephens is Professor of Communications and Creative Industries at Aberystwyth University. She has provided strategic leadership to cultural bodies as Chair S4C (1998-2006), Governor of the bfi (2001-2007) and as Chair of the Report on the Arts in Wales (Stephens Report 2006) for the Welsh Assembly Government. She is also a Trustee of Arts & Business UK. Her past roles include being a Trustee of the British Council where she still chairs the Wales Advisory Committee. She also sits on the Board of the Imax Waterloo on behalf of the bfi. She is a Non Executive Director of the Welsh Assembly Government's Strategic Delivery and Performance Board. She also chairs the Board's Corporate Governance Committee. She currently chairs the Recovery Board for the Isle of Anglesey County Council. Elan was born in the Nantlle Valley, Gwynedd, and was educated at Somerville College, Oxford. She has two grown up children. In 2001, she was awarded a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours for services to broadcasting and the Welsh language
  2. The appointment of the Trustee for Wales is made for four years from 1 November 2010 to 31 October 2014. The post is currently remunerated at a level of 拢37,660 per annum, for a two day a week time commitment. Diane Coyle, Alison Hastings, Patricia Hodgson and David Liddiment's terms will run for the same period. The terms for Rotha Johnston and Mehmuda Mian will run from 1 November 2010 to 31 October 2012

Cyhoeddodd y Llywodraeth heddiw fod Elan Closs Stephens CBE wedi ei phenodi fel Ymddiriedolwr Cenedlaethol y 成人快手 dros Gymru, yn weithredol o 1 Tachwedd 2010.

Bydd Elan Closs Stephens yn cymryd lle Janet Lewis-Jones, a fydd yn rhoi鈥檙 gorau i swydd Ymddiriedolwr Cenedlaethol Cymru ar 31 Hydref 2010, ynghyd 芒 Chitra Bharucha, sydd ar hyn o bryd yn Ddirprwy Gadeirydd yr Ymddiriedolaeth. Yn dilyn penderfyniad Syr Michael Lyons i beidio 芒 cheisio ei ail-benodi fel Cadeirydd Ymddiriedolaeth y 成人快手, cadarnhaodd yr Adran Ddiwylliant, y Cyfryngau a Chwaraeon heddiw na fydd penderfyniad terfynol parthed penodiad Dirprwy Gadeirydd yn cael ei wneud tan i鈥檙 Cadeirydd newydd gael ei benodi.
