Applications are open for National Young Writers 2025, a free online course led by , the nation's rural touring theatre company, and award-winning production company Rural Media. Through collaborative and dynamic online learning, young writers aged 18 鈥� 30 will explore how to write, produce and film brilliant short plays for digital platforms.
This online course runs from April 鈥� September 2025. Across 7 evening workshops and a number of supportive 1:1 sessions, writers will:
- Learn how to write and develop a short script
- Gain experience and insights from leading industry professionals
- Join a cohort of likeminded peers from across the UK
- Be supported to produce and film your own work using a mobile phone
- See your script performed by professional actors
- Share your work widely across digital networks in October 2025
Former Pentabus Young Writers have gone on to Olivier Award nominations and gain professional residencies with UK theatres.
The course is aimed at young people who may not even know they鈥檙e writers yet and those who have some experience of writing.
To apply, please provide the following before the deadline of 10.00am on Monday 24th March:
- Your pronouns

- An overview of your writing experience
- What your connection is to the rural, and what 'rural' means to you
- An explanation of why you have applied for this course and what you hope to achieve from it
- Any access considerations you need us to know
- An example of your writing
