Ghana celebrates 50 years of independence
Ghana
Ghana
Ghana was the first black African country to break free from its colonial past when it gained independence from Britain in 1957. It was a move that was to inspire a continent with scores of other African countries following in its footsteps soon after.

Komla Dumor returned to his birthplace to be part of the celebrations and to hear how his country has changed during the last five decades. Here, he considers the significance of the events from 50 years ago.

Despite many positive noises about Ghana's progress, the country is still grappling with issues such as poverty. Is enough being done?

Ghana's political moves 50 years ago is not the only thing to have made a broader impact. The country's musicians are also proud of their influence around the globe.

So what do Ghana's young people make of their country's prospects?
