Today's Phrase
If you tell someone to get your skates on it means that you want them to do something quickly or to hurry up.
Examples:
You'd better get your skates on, or we are going to miss the bus!
Get your skates on! We've got a lot of work to do today.
Take note
The expression to skate over something means to avoid an issue.
Example:
Our manager told us to work longer hours to keep the company in business, but he skated over the issue of extra payment.
Interesting fact
Skaters in competition can reach speeds of more than 60 miles per hour as they skate around a track on blades 1mm thick. In order to achieve this speed they have to lower their head and chest. This helps them to keep air resistance to a minimum.
