Today's Phrase

The phrase 'over and above' means 'in addition to something' or 'more than something'.

For example:

The quality of the food was over and above what I expected from that restaurant.

The profit we made last year was over and above what we anticipated.

We're going to need 5 litres of water over and above the amount we already have.

Don't confuse it with

When someone is 'over the moon', they are extremely happy.

For example:

The athlete was over the moon when he won his second gold medal.

My boyfriend proposed to me last night - I'm over the moon!
