I think the effect of 'sanction' depends on whom be applied. Because it isn't unilateral oder but agreement each other. Namely, nobody can't ban the strongest one to do somtheing by using the sanction. It often happens among countries. in the most cases, strong countries make such the sanction in advance in order to disturb their enemies or to keep their pace(or authority) up. Because there is only 'the law of the jungle' in the world

Baker, Greece
When the UN impose sanctions against Israel, it does not implement them using the USA veto.

Babak, Iran
Sanctions are very powerful means for obliging a country to honour its commitments but as experiences have proved, most of the time they've worsen situation and even sometimes backfired and only the ordinary people and opposition groups have suffered more.

Djahida T, Algeria
Despite the fact that the whole world has seen the the Algerian football players injured in Cairo after an anti sprot attack, no sanction made yet against the Egyptians. Where are you FIFA?

Nilgan, Turkey
My name is Nilgan NAR. I'm a teacher. And I'm learning English only for 6 months. In my class never to use for anything as "sanction". Even though one sentences. My student says, we can write it by ourshelves. Don't force. They are only 8 years old. People must be freedom. Everything is o.k. in their area. No one from outside can't know really what's happening there.Who knows the real reality. It's questionable. Everyone must look at theirshelves. so no one, no country mustn't use this word for anything:)I hope , I understood the mean of "Sanction"Thanks

Jean, Taiwan, R. O. C.
Since Taiwan withdrew from the UN in 1971, the communist China has been stopping Taiwan from participating any international conferences or organizations which China claimed that because Taiwan had been part of the China, allegedly Taiwan's participation in any international events should have required sanctions from them by changing our country's name from Republic of China to Chinese Taipei. Ironically, as a "mother country", China constantly exported the poisonous food, clothing and shoes to Taiwan. To our people's disappointment, the incumbent Taiwanese President is intimidated by the powerful China and never direct our government to impose any trade sanctions against China.

Fouad, Morocco
Last time, the president of Niger dinied the constitutionnal law in organising a referendum to stay on power for three years again. The west african organisation has decided to give sanctions to his country so that he can't deal economic business with any west african country

I think the sanction does not work for the rude countries which are rich. It just causes their people to be weaker and weaker and their government to be stronger. In addition sanction causes governmental people to prepare the requisite staffs for the people from the behind the curtain ways which made them richer. Only way to support the activities which are supposed to lead to democracy, is to show the world support of the people of those countries.

Raul, Spain
I think the imposition of a range of economic sanctions to Iran is a good measure to advise them about the use of nuclear weapons. It's necessary a world agreement to reduce the use of nuclear disarmament.

Nigeria
Sanction never work, it only impoverish the mass while the politician that cause this are spared. For instance, when General Sani Abacha, the then Nigerian President was sanction, the system nearly collapse, the masses suffered, but the Chinese and the Swedish Government welcome him. It only lead to change of alliance of the politician, it does not change there decision.

Winnie Win, Myanmar (Burma)
It has been over 13 years, we are under American sanction for trade and economic. The purpose seems to be'humiliating the political leaders of the sanctioned country by showing the world that 'you are ruling the poor country which is full of sick public (metnally and physically)'. In such circumstames, prostitution and child exploitation are shockingly devastating. From my personal point of view as a public, 'sanction' means 'making the innocent people getting expolited by neighbouring countries or turning them into 'slavery'. Is it called American way of promoting human right and Democary?

Muslum Aygun, Turkey
when the big world organizations and big countries impose sanctions against the poor countries because of that contries' governments for any reasons, they punish the inocent people of that countries in fact.

Ali, Somalia
Iran denies international calls over its nuclear enrichment probram therefoer United Nations security council unanimously approved to impose a tough ecconomical sanction against Iran, but iran stil insists on having a right to acquire neclear bomb.anyway we need a working sanctions when imposed to the dictators, defient governments and illegal drug dealers.

Crivont, Brazil
I am conviced that only impose a few sanctions to the country that refuses to accept intenational standards on the respect of the human rights or nuclear energy development, is completely useless. Most of the cases only gives more time for the rogue government to strength his bad polices while try to cope its internal opposition.

C L Leang, Cambodia
Currently, sanction has been the very hot issue ever in the world. We hear it almost everyday on TV, radio, and on newspaper. However, the positive results got was not as much as we expected, especially, in North Korea, Iran and, Myanmar where their leaders are dictators. To be more effective, concession negotiation must be taken into account. We can not only impose the sanctions and let all the people die but also create the possible ways for them to go through. Furthermore, all the powerful countries such as China and Russia must sacrifice its interests for the whole world's interests. We must refuse to accept the world that we cannot summon the unity against radicalism .We have to come together behind the common purposes, non-proliferation the nuclear weapons and promotion democracy. To finalize the sanctions, the countries which were under the sanctions should awake from the unrealistic dream and start thinking about the peace, prosperity and integrity instead for their country as well as for the stability of whole world.

Bonnie, Taiwan
Recently the general public here refused to sanction the U.S beef imports approval.First, people worry about that we might get rabies if we consume the internal organs which potentially contain mad cow disease. Second, government may be benefit from the trade sanction but how about the general public鈥檚 health. Who should take responsibility for it? It is still a controversy.

Yanhuang, China
In today's world the rule of jungle still prevails.sanctions are the whip held by a few bullies who can brandish it to show their authority to the world. The weak county has no diplomacy at all and whatever sanctions imposed against it,the worst hit are those ordinary citizen.Iran's strategy to deal with the sanctions,I gess,is supported by it's people.if any country gets strong militarily and economicaly, there would be no sanctions at all,or no effectiveness of any imposed sanctions. In knowing that,Iran is pressing ahead with it's nuclear programme despite recent sanctions by the UN directed by the US.

Roseli Gertum Becker
A good example of an effective sanction was the one against South Africa products in the early nineties when a massive amount of people refused to buy products made in South Africa. It was not the only reason for the great changes which happened in that country but it was certainly one that made the white ,prejudiced government to realise that their future would obviously depend on drastic moves towards a democratic policy

Ali, Somalia
I think imposing sanction is a very important and necessary step towards peace, sanction is a form of punishment.and we often hear 'economic sanction'

Balaram, India
Imposing sanction on poor/developing countries could end up in negative side.If we take example of Zimbabwe, after imposing sanctions it's economy completly collapsed. And onemore good example is, Afganisthan. Because of imposing sanctions. this countery has been divided from world economy and started doing illegal business with the world like DRUGS.

Ihsan khan wazir
Many nations have imposed sanctions on the country because of its attacks on its own people.2=They tried to get official sanction for the scheme.

Last time, the president of Niger dinied the constitutionnal law in organising a referendum to stay on power for tree years again. The west african organisation has decided to give sanctions to his country so that he can't deal economic business with any west african country
