Bois in Bundoran
Thursday we awoke to find the Peak looking tastier than it had done all week - finally! 'Cheese' was the first one on it and we all followed. It picked up to around 4-6ft on sets but a little messed up.
The wind then dropped and it cleaned right up, shame the pics don't really do it justice. Some bombs came through with everyone snagging rides and plenty of hammerings being handed out (mostly to me I think!)
'Cheese' took some insanely late drops into the screaming rights and 'General' was loving the class lefts and 'Hooper' was...well, 'Hooper'! ;)
We had it to ourselves for an hour and a half and then the crew turned up. We were all pretty knackered by now, so after another crowded half hour or so and we paddled in.
After lunch we decided to do some exploring. We headed South and out through Grange. Following a bit of map-perusal and use of binoculars we spotted a nice point break which looked to have potential.
We got changed and pegged it over the fields. Turned out to be a sweet point with tasty 4 footers coming through, clean as you like and all to ourselves.
Walk along the point and in off the rocks! As the tide pushed in it got bigger with some real 6ft+ clean up sets coming through! We surfed ourselves silly with everyone snagging loads of rides.
It was a fairly mellow wave, even the big take offs weren't too bad, it was mostly big open faces, though some hollowed out and it was a race down the line to avoid the lip!
In deference of the fact that we were only a few clicks from the N.I border, the 'General' came up with the most politically correct of names "Semtex Point". It started off in jest, but soon stuck.
That night we were K.O but suitably stoked and hit the town. Thursday was a bit livelier than the rest of the week and we soon found ourselves in a bumping nightclub which eventually kicked us out around 3am.
Not many recollections from that night but one that really sticks out is Hoop getting up onto the empty dancefloor earlier in the night at some pub who had a one man band doing covers. 'Hooper' gets up and starts dancing around in robot-stylee and the place erupted and the dance floor was soon bumpin...good work Hoophead!
Friday we packed up and headed off to Semtex Point for our final surf. Hoop and I got lost in the noodle car. After many phone calls and walkie talkie action we finally got there, though not before we discovered another point which I christened Semtex+1!
This looked as good if not better than Semtex, but by the time we got to Semtex, the boys were already in. Still, there's always next time...
All in all a cracking holiday. Another one of my abiding memories which I have to share will be provided by the inimitable 'Hooper'.
One hungover morning having just got up he was stood outside the living room window. I shouted to ask him what he was doing. Back comes the reply "just having a breath of fresh air".
Over to the window I walk and what do I see?
Young Johnny Hooper, a little green round the gills, dragging away on a big fat, stinking 'Benson & Hedges'.
The irony was not lost on any of us!!!
