In this clip from Iolo's Special Reserves, Iolo meets up with reserve manager Nigel Williams for a tour of the at Penclacwydd near Llanelli which is managed by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.

Once just farmland it's hard to believe that the wetlands centre only opened it's doors to the public in April 1991 but was extended as part of the Millenium Coastal Paths Project.

During the winter months up to 50,000 birds visit the Burry Inlet, stopping off at the reserve's lagoons and scrapes.

Set in a 450 acre mosaic of lakes, pool and lagoons created on the scenic Burry Inlet, the reserve is home to many hundreds of wild and resident species.

Reed and sedge warblers can now be found here as well as otter, bitterns over winter and many more rare species from around the world.

No matter what the weather, you're guaranteed to see birds here. Birds in the 'collection area' such as the Caribbean flamingo also serve as an educational tool, informing the public about conservation matters and endangered species.

The sheer number of species is amazing including red kite, cetti's warbler, black tailed godwit as well as the more exotic species such as little egret and flamingo.

The patchwork of ponds, lakes and reed beds are overlooked by a high-rise observatory and 'discovery' centre.
