Part three of our interview with the Bush guitarist.
Last updated: 08 January 2010
What have you been up to since you left Bush?
"I've worked on various projects since ceasing to be a member of Bush, but most have come to nothing unfortunately. I started producing and recording an album for an artist called Emma Holland but it was never mixed and fell by the wayside and I produced an album for a band called Furlined which is out there. They're a really good band from Bristol who are worth checking out. I've known Neil the singer and songwriter in the band for a long time. He's one of those people who should have made it in a bigger way but has never had the breaks.
"I've been working on another solo album for the last five years but as there's no rush I seem to be taking way too long on it. I recorded all the drums before we left London and so one day it might appear. Some of the tracks are on Myspace. You can hear my first solo album, Heavenly Toast On The Paradise Road, on Spotify.
"I played guitar on a couple of tracks for a band called out in the States which my sister Jan was involved in. One of the tracks I played on has the great Charlie Louvin on it. Now I'm working with a band called Parsley Sound.
"Since moving out of London I encourage people to send me tracks to play on so I can work out here in Suffolk and then send them back the tracks over the internet. That way I get to spend time with my family which is really important and also work. It seems a good way and I'm always keen to work on tracks in this way. I probably need to put myself out there to get more of this sort of work so if anyone wants some nasty guitar playing...
"I'd like to get back to some playing. I just need the right project. I've no interest in touring in the States particularly. Been there, done that. I think Johnny Marr has done it really well and adds great things to the Cribs but it is very difficult when you've been in a famous band to do something meaningful after. By nature I'm not an optimist but I hope I'll get something good going again."
