How to get there
These instructions were valid ahead of Cardiff's National Eisteddfod in 2008.
All visitors planning to attend this year's Eisteddfod in Cardiff must be aware that there is no parking available at the Eisteddfod site. The Eisteddfod's Park and ride service is in the Cardiff bay area - follow 'Eisteddfod' signs (see below).
However, people can travel to and from the Eisteddfod in various ways, including by train, bus, bicycle, on foot, taxi, park and ride, or car sharing.
Trains and buses
Trains arrive at, and depart from, Cardiff Central Station or Queen Street Station. Visitors can then walk for approx 10-20 minutes to the Eisteddfod, or cycle, take a taxi or bus. There is pedestrian signage to the event from Cardiff Central Station. Cycle spaces on trains may need to be booked ahead (unless it is a folding bike) and operators need to be contacted before travelling.
For bus travel, there is an extensive network of bus services into Cardiff city centre provided by Cardiff Bus, Stagecoach and Veolia. From Cardiff City Centre, Cardiff Bus services 25, 62 & 62A, Stagecoach 122 and 124, Veolia service 32 and Easyway service 320 all travel via Cathedral Road and stop near to Sophia Gardens.

Bicycle
Bicycle parking with 400 spaces will be available near the main entrances to the field, and the site is accessible via the Taff Trail and a cycle path network. Cycle maps are available in advance from the Tourist Information Centre in the Hayes and from information stands at the Eisteddfod. Alternatively cyclists can look at the .
Walking
If you live, or are staying locally you might consider walking to the site as a first choice. The areas surrounding the Eisteddfod Field are well served by pavements and pedestrian crossing facilities. A short walk from the city centre through Bute Park, next to Cardiff Castle will lead to the event.
Taxis and private hire vehicles
Taxis and private hire vehicles are available throughout the city. Taxis have roof top signs and can be caught at designated ranks or hailed in the street. Private hire vehicles do not have a roof sign and must be pre-booked. They cannot be hailed in the street or picked up at a stand. Taxi ranks are situated in the following locations: Central Station, St. Mary Street and Greyfriars Road.
Park and Ride
Drivers are advised to follow the signs which will be on all routes into Cardiff (A48 and J33 of the M4). These signs will direct traffic to the available site at the time of your arrival. The cost of Park and Ride is £3 per car per day and runs between 7.30am until 11.30pm. As with all Park and Ride services, buses will be provided regularly between each car park and the event drop off point.
All Park and Ride sites will be fully accessible for disabled customers and the National Eisteddfod are providing transport facilities from Sophia Gardens to the main entrance, for disabled visitors who have walking difficulties.
Car Sharing
You may be able to cut the cost of travelling to the event by finding a car sharing match for your journey to the city centre or to one of the Park and Ride Sites. Sewta operates a public scheme that provides an electronic matching service which is free to use. Log on to to register.
Whether you are a Cardiff resident or travelling from outside the City it is strongly advised that people travel into the city via public transport wherever possible. If people are travelling by car, car sharing is recommended. Cardiff residents are being encouraged to walk, cycle or take public transport for the short journey to and from the event.
